Effect of grain recrystallization on stir zone and mechanical property behavior of TRIP 780 steel

Electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD)and transmission electron microscopy were used to determine the presence of retained austenite and displacive-type phase transformation in the stir zone of friction stir welding(FSW).Severe plastic deformations occurred in the stir zone where there was an increase in the temperature attributed to the FSW process and subsequently a grain *** the recrystallization phenomena,the formation of grain evolution development in steels was resolved using *** addition,a tensile test was carried out in order to reveal the results of mechanical *** was found that the fracture zone occurred in the stir zone with an ultimate tensile strength of 587 MPa,a decrease of 267 MPa compared with that of the base *** this result,it is evident that the fracture exhibits numerous elongated dimples,distributed homogeneously,and certain locations contain cleavage fractures due to differences in the microstructure of the base *** profile tests of the welding regions were conducted,and the results showed that the stir zone was present with elevated hardness(near 350 HV).Characterization techniques revealed that the austenite-to-martensite transformation occurred in the stir zone,resulting in a loss of mechanical properties in the joint.

An unsupervised pattern recognition methodology based on factor analysis and a genetic-DBSCAN algorithm to infer operational conditions from strain measurements in structural applications

Structural Health Monitoring(SHM) suggests the use of machine learning algorithms with the aim of understanding specific behaviors in a structural system. This work introduces a pattern recognition methodology for operational condition clustering in a structure sample using the well known Density Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise(DBSCAN) *** methodology was validated using a data set from an experiment with 32 Fiber Bragg Gratings bonded to an aluminum beam placed in cantilever and submitted to cyclic bending loads under 13 different operational conditions(pitch angles). Further, the computational cost and precision of the machine learning pipeline called FA + GA-DBSCAN(which employs a combination of machine learning techniques including factor analysis for dimensionality reduction and a genetic algorithm for the automatic selection of initial parameters of DBSCAN) was measured. The obtained results have shown a good performance, detecting 12 of 13 operational conditions, with an overall precision over 90%.

Management of critically ill patients with diabetes

Disorders of glucose homeostasis, such as stress-induced hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, are common complications in patients in the intensive care unit. Patients with preexisting diabetes mellitus(DM) are more susceptible to hyperglycemia, as well as a higher risk from glucose overcorrection, that may results in severe hypoglycemia. In critically ill patients with DM, it is recommended to maintain a blood glucose range between 140-180 mg/d L. In neurological patients and surgical patients, tighter glycemic control(i.e., 110-140 mg/d) is recommended if hypoglycemia can be properly avoided. There is limited evidence that shows that critically ill diabetic patients with a glycosylated hemoglobin levels above 7% may benefit from looser glycemic control, in order to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia and significant glycemic variability.

Impaired immune reaction and increased lactate and C-reactive protein for early prediction of severe morbidity and pancreatic fistula after pancreatoduodenectomy

Background: Prediction of complications after pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) remains of interest. Blood parameters and biomarkers during rst and second postoperative days (POD1, POD2) may be early indi- cators of complications. Methods: This case-control study included 50 patients. Baseline, POD1 and POD2 values of leukocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, platelets, hemoglobin, C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin and arterial lactate were compared between individuals presenting Clavien ≥ III morbidity, pancreatic stula (PF) or clinically relevant PF (CRPF) and those without these morbidities. Common variables reaching signi cance were further analyzed in order to calculate a predictive score. Results: Severe morbidity, PF and CRPF rates were 28.0%, 26.0% and 14.0%, respectively. Patients with severe morbidity had lower leukocytes on POD2 (P=0.04). Patients with PF presented higher CRP on POD2 (P=0.001), higher lactate on POD1 (P=0.007) and POD2 (P=0.008), and lower lymphocytes on POD1 (P=0.007) and POD2 (P=0.008). Patients with CRPF had lower leukocytes and neutrophils on POD1 (P =0.048, P =0.038), lower lymphocytes on POD1 (P =0.001) and POD2 (P =0.003), and higher CRP on POD2 (P =0.001). Baseline parameters and procalcitonin obtained no statistical associations. Score was de ned according to lymphocytes on POD1 < 650/μL and CRP on POD2 ≥ 250 mg/L allocating patients in 3 risk categories. PF and CRPF rates were statistically higher as risk category increased (P<0.001). Receiver operating characteristic curves and Hosmer Lemeshow tests showed a good accuracy. Conclusions: Impaired immunological reaction during early postoperative period (lower leukocytes and, particularly, lymphocytes) in response to surgical aggression would favor complications after PD. Likewise, acidosis (higher arterial lactate) could behave as risk factor of PF. An elevated CRP on POD2 is also an early biomarker of PF.
