Emergence of vancomycin-intermediate resistant Staphylococcus aureus in north of Palestine

Objective:This study was conducted to update the prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) isolates among human clinical *** isolates recovered from Northern Palestine,to evaluate the possible presence of vancomycin-Resistant ***(VRSA) and vancomycin- intermediate resistant *** strains(VISA) and to determine the antimicrobial susceptibilities of these clinical ***:The in vitro activities of 11 antibiotics against 204 non-duplicate *** isolates from clinical samples in North of Palestine were determined by the diskdiffusion *** samples were isolated between June 2006 and December *** minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of vancomycin for 115 methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) strains was carried out using the agar dilution ***:One hundred and fifteen(56.4%) of these isolates were MRSA and according to their antibiotic profile these are multidrug resistant(resistant to three or more non-p-lactam antibiotics). Ninety nine(43.6%) isolates were methicillin sensitive ***(MSSA),forty four of MSSA isolates(44.4%) were multidrug resistant,while forty five(45.6%) were non multidrug *** results showed that the most common resistance(95.6%) was to *** strains of MRSA have shown to be vancomycin- intermediate resistant,had MIC of 4μg/rnL and 8μg/mL and these vancomycin- intermediate resistant *** strains(VISA) are resistant to all antibiotics ***:According to our information this is the first study report about VISA in Palestine.

The AL-SENSE Test is Reliable for Detection of Second Trimester Amniotic Fluid

Objective: To validate the reliability and stability of the AL-SENSE panty-liner for detection of amniotic fluid in the second trimester. Study design: Amniotic fluid drawn during amniocentesis between 16 to 23 weeks of gestation was used for the study.100 μl and 400 μl of amniotic fluid, were dripped onto two panty liners, respectively. After 5 minutes the indicator strip was removed from the AL-SENSE, dried and examined. The color was recorded at time 0 and 5 minutes, and then every 10 minutes for the first 30 minutes, then at 1, 2, 6 and 12 hours. Results: 50 women were enrolled and 49 completed the study. 100% of both volume samples changed color from yellow to blue during the first 5 minutes and remained stable after twelve hours of follow-up. In the 100 μl subgroup, seven of the 49 samples (14.3%) had a delayed color change and in the 400 μl subgroup one of 49 (2.04%) had a delay in change of color. Conclusion: Amniotic fluid drawn during amniocentesis at weeks 16 - 23 of gestation have a positive, stable staining effect on the AL-SENSE panty liner. Hence, AL-SENSE may be reliable for detection of amniotic fluid leakage during the second trimester.

Building Reusable Remote Labs with Adaptable Client User-Interfaces

Nowadays remote laboratories suffer the absence of *** addition,their construction and maintenance require time,money and *** system implementation of a specific remote lab is neither generic nor *** this paper,a solution for a reusable remote lab dedicated for disparate types of scientific and engineering experiments is presented. The experiment designer needs only to connect the experiment components and equipment such as capacitors,resistors, transistors,function generators with a switch system of a lab server,then,she/he has to map this connection structure in a configuration data *** a student starts the Web-based client user-interface and logs-in into the lab server, the menu structure of the graphical user-interface builds and initializes itself automatically,using information stored in a configuration data *** contribution discusses some hitherto used lab servers,some of their drawbacks,the desirable requirements on a universal remote lab,which simplify the building process of newer lab experiments consisting of experiment components and equipment as well as a client user-interface that could enable students to remotely access the experiment.

Qualitative and quantitative ATR-FTIR analysis and its application to coal char of different ranks

This paper analyzes the coal to char stages of char formation of six coals of different ranks by using Fourier transform infrared coupled w ith attenuated total reflectance(ATR-FTIR).The chars w ere obtained by coal pyrolysis carried out at temperature range of 450~700℃.The data obtained show s the pragmatic disappearance of the aliphatic hydrogen content w ith increasing char formation *** evaluation of the spectra enabled the determination of aromaticity,*** aromaticity w as found to be betw een 0.66~0.79 for lignite,0.75~0.90 for sub-bituminous,0.84~1.00 for low volatile bituminous,0.83~1.00 for high volatile bituminous,0.94~1.00 for semi-anthracite,and 0.97~1.00 for anthracite *** increasing rank of coal samples,spectra exhibit rising aromaticity and enhanced condensation of aromatic rings,w hereas the aliphatic chain lengths decrease.

Analysis of the Performance Indicators of the PV Power System

The energy assessment of the PV power systems is carried out by using different types of performance indicators that benchmark the output of these systems against the PV panel maximum output at hypothetical operation conditions. In this paper, a comparative analysis of six types of performance indicators is conducted and a new performance indicator which considers PV panel slope and orientation is proposed. The proposed indicator is benchmarking the PV system actual output against the maximum output of the same system if it would operate in two axis tracking mode. The proposed performance indicator is used to develop a friendly user calculator of PV system output that can be used by, energy providers and PV system installers to evaluate the output of the PV grid connect network. The advantage of the developed calculator is high-lighted by a case study that estimates energy capacity of different residential rooftop PV systems installed in a residential suburb in Sydney.

Long Term Assessment of a Grid Connected Solar PV System in Sydney

This paper assesses 4 years of operation of a 1.75 kW roof top solar PV system installed in a Sydney suburban house. The system consists of 10 PV panels, a DC/AC inverter, and a grid connected gross meter. Solar electricity delivered to grid is verified with the results from a computer simulation package （PVSYST） by adopting the installed component specifications, operation conditions, and weather data of the site. The results show high consistency between the values of energy delivered to the grid measured by the energy company and the energy estimated by system simulation. New system performance indicator is developed and called the optimum performance compliance ratio （PCR）. It is a measure of the compliance of the output of the designed PV system with the output which would be produced by the same system with a solar tracker. This indicator provides system designers, contractors and energy providers with the actual capacity of the system that they can offer the end-users.

Spectroscopic Elucidation of the Links between Char Morphology and Chemical Structure of Coals of Different Ranks

In this investigation, SAXS and XRD were used to investigate both the physical and chemical changes in six coals of different ranks subjected to heat treatment. The specific surface area which gives an indication of the reactivity of the coal (measures surface area available for reaction) was determined to be in the range of 70.04 - 260.40 m2/cm3 particle volume for lignite from 450°C - 700°C. The specific surface area was determined to be in the range of 51.58 - 239.00 m2/cm3 particle volume for sub-bituminous;440.60 - 241.70 m2/cm3 particle volume for light volatile bituminous;452.71 - 247.73 m2/cm3 particle volume for high volatile bituminous;349.11 - 347.52 m2/cm3 particle volume for semi-anthracite and 333.60 - 125.34 m2/cm3 particle volume for anthracite respectively. On the other hand, the aromaticity was determined in the range of 0.66 - 0.76 for lignite;0.67 to 0.80 for sub-bituminous;0.91 - 0.97 for light volatile bituminous;0.93 - 0.99 for high volatile bituminous;0.96 - 1.00 for semi-anthracite and 0.96 to 0.99 for anthracite respectively. The porosity, pore size distribution associated with SAXS and the other crystallite parameters identified with XRD were also determined. Links between the physical and chemical parameters were established.

A Feature Percolation Convention of Affixation Processes in Urhobo

This paper seeks to examine headedness in affixation processes in Urhobo using a feature percolation *** is a rich source of word formation process in the Urhobo *** specific objectives are to identify affixation processes in Urhobo,investigate how they are used to derive words and determine headedness in the Urhobo language using a feature percolation theory as a *** paper reveals three affixation processes in Urhobo,which are prefixes,circumfixes and *** is a derivational aspect of morphology and it brings about change in the grammatical class of the word or rather,provides additional semantic information to a *** paper discovers that new words are derived in the language by attaching an affix either at the beginning(prefix),or to the end(suffix)of a *** process is very productive in the *** paper reveals that the head of a word using prefix is left-right branching while for suffixes,it is right-left *** prefix and suffix attached to a root to form the circumfix project to be the head of a *** study observes circumfixes to have two *** percolation theory is also used to determine the head of a word in *** paper concludes by recommending further researches on the use of theories especially morphological theories in analysing morphological processes in Urhobo.

Robust Network Security:A Deep Learning Approach to Intrusion Detection in IoT

The proliferation of Internet of Things(IoT)technology has exponentially increased the number of devices interconnected over networks,thereby escalating the potential vectors for cybersecurity *** response,this study rigorously applies and evaluates deep learning models—namely Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN),Autoencoders,and Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)networks—to engineer an advanced Intrusion Detection System(IDS)specifically designed for IoT *** the comprehensive UNSW-NB15 dataset,which encompasses 49 distinct features representing varied network traffic characteristics,our methodology focused on meticulous data preprocessing including cleaning,normalization,and strategic feature selection to enhance model performance.A robust comparative analysis highlights the CNN model’s outstanding performance,achieving an accuracy of 99.89%,precision of 99.90%,recall of 99.88%,and an F1 score of 99.89%in binary classification tasks,outperforming other evaluated models *** results not only confirm the superior detection capabilities of CNNs in distinguishing between benign and malicious network activities but also illustrate the model’s effectiveness in multiclass classification tasks,addressing various attack vectors prevalent in IoT *** empirical findings from this research demonstrate deep learning’s transformative potential in fortifying network security infrastructures against sophisticated cyber threats,providing a scalable,high-performance solution that enhances security measures across increasingly complex IoT *** study’s outcomes are critical for security practitioners and researchers focusing on the next generation of cyber defense mechanisms,offering a data-driven foundation for future advancements in IoT security strategies.
