Effect of nutrition-related infodemics and social media on maternal experience: A nationwide survey in a low/middle income country

BACKGROUND Undernutrition is a crucial cause of morbidity and mortality among children in low-or middle-income countries(LMICs).A better understanding of maternal general healthy nutrition knowledge,as well as misbeliefs,is highly essential,especially in such settings.In the current era of infodemics,it is very strenuous for mothers to select not only the right source for maternal nutrition information but the correct information as well.AIM To assess maternal healthy nutritional knowledge and nutrition-related misbeliefs and misinformation in an LMIC,and to determine the sources of such information and their assessment methods.METHODS This cross-sectional analytical observational study enrolled 5148 randomly selected Egyptian mothers who had one or more children less than 15 years old.The data were collected through online questionnaire forms:One was for the general nutrition knowledge assessment,and the other was for the nutritional myth score.Sources of information and ways of evaluating internet sources using the Currency,Relevance,Authority,Accuracy,and Purpose test were additionally analyzed.RESULTS The mean general nutrition knowledge score was 29±9,with a percent score of 70.8%±12.1%(total score:41).The median myth score was 9(interquartile range:6,12;total score:18).The primary sources of nutrition knowledge for the enrolled mothers were social media platforms(55%).Half of the mothers managed information for currency and authority,except for considering the author's contact information.More than 60%regularly checked information for accuracy and purpose.The mothers with significant nutrition knowledge checked periodically for the author's contact information(P=0.012).The nutrition myth score was significantly lower among mothers who periodically checked the evidence of the information(P=0.016).Mothers dependent on their healthcare providers as the primary source of their general nutritional knowledge were less likely to hold myths by 13%(P=0.044).However,using social media increased the likelihood of havi

This study was conducted to investigate effects of supplementing two doses of quebracho tannins (QT;100 or 200 g/cow/d;QT100 or QT200) pre and post parturition to thirty Holstein dairy cows on Dry Matter Intake (DMI), milk yield and composition, blood metabolites and reproductive performance for 12 weeks. There were no significant changes in DMI due to QT at transition period of dairy cows. QT supplementation at either level decreased (P 0.05) the total number of ovarian follicles, number of large follicles, diameter of largest follicle, number of small follicles, number and diameter of corpus luteum, and progesterone concentration. In a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement, 3 levels of L-arginine (0, 75 and 150 mg/kg BW per day) were tested at two stages of pregnancy (Early 60 days vs. Late 60 days) on the maternal blood metabolites and postnatal milk composition relative to the newborn traits of Najdi ewes. Thirty adult pregnant Najdi ewes were randomly assigned into 6 treatments (n = 5). Control early (CE) ewes were orally administered 50 mL normal saline (0.9% NaCl) daily during the first 60 days of pregnancy;control late (CL) ewes were similar to CE except saline was given at the last 60 days of pregnancy;low dose of L-arginine at early pregnancy (LE);low dose of L-arginine at late pregnancy (LL);high dose of L-arginine at early (HE) and high dose of L-arginine at late pregnancy (HL). Blood and milk samples were collected on a weekly basis. Data of lambing and newborn traits were considered. There were non-significant differences in litter size due to L-arginine;however lamb birth and weaning weights increased by 35% in LE-ewes. Arginine did not change blood protein and albumin. Low arginine decreased lipid fractions, creatinine, urea, and milk fat;however, it increased AST, ALT, milk lactose and milk ash. Administration of L-arginine at 75 mg/Kg BW per day for 60 days at an early gestation in ewes improved the maternal body health and milk composition for the welfare of the neonates.

Most current security and authentication systems are based on personal biometrics.The security problem is a major issue in the field of biometric systems.This is due to the use in databases of the original biometrics.Then biometrics will forever be lost if these databases are attacked.Protecting privacy is the most important goal of cancelable biometrics.In order to protect privacy,therefore,cancelable biometrics should be non-invertible in such a way that no information can be inverted from the cancelable biometric templates stored in personal identification/verification databases.One methodology to achieve non-invertibility is the employment of non-invertible transforms.This work suggests an encryption process for cancellable speaker identification using a hybrid encryption system.This system includes the 3D Jigsaw transforms and fractional fourier Transform(frfT).The proposed scheme is compared with the optical Double Random Phase Encoding(DRPE)encryption process.The evaluation of simulation results of cancellable biometrics shows that the algorithm proposed is secure,authoritative,and feasible.The encryption and cancelability effects are good and reveal good performance.Also,it introduces recommended security and robustness levels for its utilization for achieving efficient cancellable biometrics systems.

Efficacy of Gold Nanoparticles against Nephrotoxicity Induced by Schistosoma mansoni Infection in Mice

Objective In this study, the ameliorative effects of gold nanoparticles （gold NP） on the renal tissue damage in Schistosoma mansoni （S. mansoni）-infected mice was investigated. Methods High-resolution transmission electron microscopy was used for the characterization of NP. The gold NP at concentrations of 250, 500, and 1000 μg/kg body weight were inoculated into 5. mansoni-infected mice. Results The parasite caused alterations in the histological architecture. furthermore, it induced a significant reduction in the renal glutathione levels; however, the levels of nitric oxide and malondialdehyde were significantly elevated. The parasite also managed to downregulate KIM-I, NGAL, MCP-1, and TGf-8 mRNA expression in infected animals. Notably, gold NP treatment in mice reduced the extent of histological impairment and renal oxidative damage. Gold NP were able to regulate gene expression impaired by 5. Mansoni infection. Conclusion The curative effect of gold NP against renal toxicity in 5. mansoni-infected mice is associated with their role as free radical scavengers.

Accelerated versus standard corneal cross linking in the treatment of ectasia post refractive surgery and penetrating keratoplasty: a medium term randomized trial

AIM: To compare the clinical outcomes of the standard corneal cross linking(CXL) and the accelerated CXL in patients with progressive corneal ectasia post refractive surgery and penetrating keratoplasty.METHODS: Totally 120 eyes of 83 patients scheduled to receive either standard CXL(3 m W/cm^2 for a period of 30 min) or accelerated CXL(18 m W/cm2 for a period of 5 min). The main outcomes for comparison were the change in: maximum-K reading(K-max), manifest refractive spherical equivalent(SE), central corneal thickness(CCT), and the best corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA).RESULTS: One hundred and eleven eyes completed the study. The main outcome measurement was the K-max reading. Both group showed significant improvement in the value postoperatively at 6 and 12 mo. The mean change in the standard group was 1.21±0.11 D and in the accelerated group was 0.90±0.05 D at the end of 12 mo postoperatively, with no statistically significant difference between the 2 groups. Similarly, CDVA improved significantly from their preoperative value in the standard group by 2.98±0.11 letters, and in the accelerated group by 2.20±0.06 letters, with no statistically significant difference between the two groups. Both of the SE, and CCT showed no statistically significant difference at the end of follow up period in each group.CONCLUSION: Both standard CXL and accelerated CXL are safe and effective treatment in halting ectasia after corneal refractive surgery. The accelerated CXL results are comparable to the standard CXL with short time exposure of the cornea to ultraviolet irradiation, leading to reduced operation time, reduced operative ocular discomfort, and corneal haze.

Microwave-assisted catalytic oxidative desulfurization of gasoil fuel using synthesized CuO-ZnO nanocomposites

Recently, organosulfur removal from liquid petroleum fuels is very significant aspect of environment protecting and fuel cell requests. Therefore, improved approaches to remove sulfur are still essential. In the present work, a simple catalytic oxidative desulfurization (CODS) system for Iraqi gasoil fraction has been successfully developed using CuO-ZnO nanocomposites as catalysts, and H 2O 2 as oxidant under microwave irradiation. The main reaction parameters influencing sulfur conversion including microwave power, irradiation time, catalyst dosage and H 2O 2 to gasoil volume ratio have been investigated. The CuO-ZnO nanocomposites was synthesized with different weight ratios and characterized by XRD, fE-SEM, AfM and BET surface area methods. The results reveal that, high sulfur conversion (93%) has been achieved under suitable conditions of microwave CODS as follows: microwave power of 540 W, irradiation time of 15 min, catalyst dosage of 8 g/L (0.4 g), and H 2O 2 ∶gasoil volume ratio of 0.3. The catalyst reusability shows that the synthesized catalyst can be reused five times without an important loss in its activity.

Association of serum levels of transforming growth factor β1 with disease severity in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Aim: Transforming growth factor (TGf) is overexpressed by tumor cells like other proteins and growth factors. TGf-β1 is then activated in the extracellular compartment but is unable to control cell proliferation because of the absence or low level of TGf-β1 receptors on the plasma membrane of malignant hepatocytes. This potential mechanism might interrupt the autocrine regulation loop of TGf-β1 and its blocking effect on cell proliferation. TGf-β1 is a multifunctional cytokine involved in the regulation of growth and differentiation of both normal and transformed cells. This study aimed to evaluate the association of serum levels of TGf-β1 with disease severity. Methods: A total of 180 subjects were classified into 6 groups according to Barcelona clinic liver cancer (BCLC) classification, 30 patients each:early (BCLC 0 and A), intermediate (BCLC B), advanced stage (BCLC C), and terminal stage (BCLC D) of hepatocellular carcinoma as well as 1 group of patients with cirrhosis only and 1 control group. Serum levels of TGfβ1 were measured. Results: Serum levels of TGf-β1 were significantly higher in patients with HCC (1,687.47 ± 1,462.81 pg/mL) than cirrhotics (487.98 ± 344.23 pg/mL, P f-β1 may have a role in tumor growth and progression.

The construction and performance characteristics of new sensitive and selective in situ modified screen printed （ISPE） and carbon paste （ICPE） electrodes for determination of naphazoline hydrochloride （NPZ-HC1） have been developed. The electrodes under investigation show potentiometric response for NPZ-HC1 in the concentration range from 7.0 x 10-7 to 1.0 x 10-2 M at 25 ~C and the electrode response is independent of pH in the range of 3.1-7.9. These sensors have slope values of 59.7＋0.6 and 59.2＋0.2 mV decade-l with detection limit values of 5.6 ~ 10-7 and 5.9 x 10-7 M NPZ- HC1 using ISPE and ICPE, respectively. These electrodes show fast response time of 4-7 s and 5-8 s and exhibits lifetimes of 28 and 30 days for ISPE and ICPE, respectively. Selectivity for NPZ-HC1 with respect to a number of interfering materials was also investigated. It was found that there is no interference from the investigated inorganic cations, anions, sugars and other pharmaceutical excipients. The proposed sensors were applied for the determination of NPZ-HC1 in pharmaceutical formulation using the direct potentiometric method. It showed a mean average recovery of 100.2% and 102.6% for ISPE and ICPE, respectively. The obtained results using the proposed sensors were in good agreement with those obtained using the official method. The proposed sensors show significantly high selectivity, response time, accuracy, precision, limit of detection （LOD）and limit of quantification （LOQ） compared with other proposed methods.
