A fermented rapeseed meal additive:Effects on production performance,nutrient digestibility,colostrum immunoglobulin content and microbial flora in sows

This study was to assess the effect of fermented rapeseed meal(FRSM) in the diet of sows,taking into account the physiological period(pregnancy or lactation) and reproductive cycle(primiparous or multiparous sows),on production performance,nutrient digestibility,colostrum immunoglobulin content,and microbial flora in *** experimental material included 30 primiparous gilts and 30 multiparous sows after their second *** animals in the control groups C_G(gilts) and Cs(sows)received a standard diet for pregnant or lactating sows,depending on the reproductive *** groups E_G and E_S comprised gilts and multiparous sows,respectively,receiving a diet with a 4%share of FRSM in place of soybean meal up to 100 d of *** addition,from 100 d of gestation to7 d of lactation,the sows in experimental groups received a diet with a 9% share of FRSM,and then again a diet with a 4% share of FRSM until the end of *** addition of 4% to 9% share of a FRSM component in feed significantly improves production parameters,mainly in primiparous gilts,leading to an increase in litter size and in litter weight at 28 d of *** also helps to improve the digestibility of crude protein,fat,and crude fiber,and positively affects the gut microbiota of *** of rapeseed meal is an effective way to reduce anti-nutrients and to increase the level of lactic acid in the diet It also stimulates the immune system,which improves piglet health,reducing the severity of diarrhoea and mortality.

New insight into the role of the complement in the most common types of retinopathy-current literature review

Pathological neovascularisation, which is a critical component of diseases such as age-related macular degeneration（AMD）, diabetic retinopathy（DR） and retinopathy of prematurity（ROP）, is a frequent cause of compromised vision or blindness. Researchers continuously investigate the role of the complement system in the pathogenesis of retinopathy. Studies have confirmed the role of factors H and I in the development of AMD, and factors H and B in the development of DR. Other components, such as C2, C3, and C5, have also been considered. However, findings on the involvement of the complement system in the pathogenesis of ROP are still inconclusive. This paper presents a review of the current literature data, pointing to the novel results and achievements from research into the role of complement components in the development of retinopathy. There is still a need to continue research in new directions, and to gather more detailed information about this problem which will be useful in the treatment of these diseases.

Comparison of different approaches for direct coupling of solid-phase microextraction to mass spectrometry for drugs of abuse analysis in plasma

The direct coupling of solid-phase microextraction(SPME)to mass spectrometry(MS)(SPME-MS)has proven to be an effective method for the fast screening and quantitative analysis of compounds in complex matrices such as blood and *** recent years,our lab has developed three novel SPME-MS techniques:SPME-microfluidic open interface-MS(SPME-MOI-MS),coated blade spray-MS(CBS-MS),and SPME-probe electrospray ionization-MS(SPME-PESI-MS).The fast and high-throughput nature of these SPME-MS technologies makes them attractive options for point-of-care analysis and anti-doping ***,all these three techniques utilize different SPME geometries and were tested with different MS *** of comparative data makes it difficult to determine which of these methodologies is the best option for any given *** work fills this gap by making a comprehensive comparison of these three technologies with different SPME devices including SPME fibers,CBS blades,and SPME-PESI probes and SPME-liquid chromatography-MS(SPME-LC-MS)for the analysis of drugs of abuse using the same MS ***,for the first time,we developed different desorption chambers for MOI-MS for coupling with SPME fibers,CBS blades,and SPME-PESI probes,thus illustrating the universality of this *** total,eight analytical methods were developed,with the experimental data showing that all the SPME-based methods provided good analytical performance with R^(2)of linearities larger than 0.9925,accuracies between 81%and 118%,and good precision with an RSD%≤13%.

We read with great interest case report of 99-year-old patient with takotsubo syndrome(TTS)presented by Yenerçağ,et al.,[1]especially because four years ago,we described the oldest so far person diagnosed with TTS:a 98-year old woman.[2]During analysis of your article a few comments and questions occurred to *** is usually preceded with a stress factor.[3]Do you know,or can you suspect the TTS cause in this patient?Was she diagnosed with primary or secondary TTS?TTS often occurs in people with ongoing or previous neurological or psychiatric disorder.[4]The patient had history of Alzheimer’s *** she have any new neurological symptoms during described hospitalization?A very good diagnostic test for TTS is NT-proBNP to troponin I ratio.[5]

Although urbanization poses various threats to avifauna,some bird species,including Mallards(Anas platyrhynchos),choose towns and cities as their wintering habitats,possibly due to favourable temperatures and abundant anthropogenic *** this study,we investigated how population dynamics changed in relation to winter harshness and intensity of supplementary bird feeding in Mallard,a dabbing duck species well adapted to an urban *** surveyed 15 city ponds for five consecutive years,counting overwintering individuals and incidents of bird feeding conducted by the citizens of Gda′*** of Mallards observed in the studied area fluctuated both annually and within seasons,with on average 327(±SD=108.5)individuals and a malebiased sex ratio *** observed a gradient of feeding intensity on the surveyed ponds,with number of feeding incidents ranging from 0 to 30 in a *** results indicated that the number of Mallards increased with the bird feeding intensity,independently of the size of the studied ponds,and both males and females were similarly attracted by food *** severe wintering conditions,expressed by the percentage of the ice cover of studied ponds resulted in more birds wintering in the urban *** effect was more pronounced in females compared to males,possibly due to females having a lower ability to withstand severe wintering conditions,forcing them to relocate towards urban *** results confirm that urbanized areas may serve as wintering grounds for birds,due to additional food resources available there and milder wintering conditions compared to surrounding rural areas.

Changes in Soil Microbial Activity and Community Composition as a Result of Selected Agricultural Practices

For a constantly growing human population, healthy and productive soil is critical for sustainable delivery of agricultural products. The soil microorganisms play a crucial role in soil structure and functioning. They are responsible for soil formation, ecosystem biogeochemistry, cycling of nutrients and degradation of plant residues and xenobiotics. Certain agricultural treatments, such as fertilizers and pesticides applications, crop rotation, or soil amendment addition, influence the composition, abundance and function of bacteria and fungi in the soil ecosystems. Some of these practices have rather negative effects;others can help soil microorganisms by creating a friendlier habitat or providing nutrients. The changes in microbial community structure cannot be fully captured with traditional methods that are limited only to culturable organisms, which represent less than 1% of the whole population. The use of new molecular techniques such as metagenomics offers the possibility to better understand how agriculture affects soil microbiota. Therefore, the main goal of this review is to discuss how common farming practices influence microbial activity in the soil, with a special focus on pesticides, fertilizers, heavy metals and crop rotation. Furthermore, potential practices to mitigate the negative effects of some treatments are suggested and treatments that can beneficially influence soil microbiota are pointed out. Finally, application of metagenomics technique in agriculture and perspectives of developing efficient molecular tools in order to assess soil condition in the context of microbial activities are underlined.

Difference in the Concentration of Macro Elements between Organically and Conventionally Grown Vegetables

Although the quality of organic crops has been intensively studied for over three decades, there is still a lack of conclusive data that can prove the superiority of organic crops over conventional ones. There is no doubt that the organic food is safer due to the lack of pesticide residues;however, it is still not entirely sure whether vegetables and fruits produced in this way are better in the context of nutritional values. The study of commonly used vegetables in the European diet was performed to evaluate the difference in concentration of macro nutrients such as Ca, Mg, Na, N, K and P between organic and conventional crops. Additionally, the soil analysis was performed on the material from two growing systems. The results showed that organically cultivated vegetables had generally a higher level of macro nutrients. Also, soil samples showed higher content of these elements in the organically treated soil. From all vegetables, the highest concentrations of macro elements were found in parsley leaves and celery roots.

Background:The use of industrial by-products rich in bioactive compounds as animal feeds can reduce greenhouse gas *** leaves silage(PLS)was supplemented to dairy cows'diet and evaluated in vitro(Exp.1;Rusitec)and in vivo(Exp.2,cannulated lactating dairy cows and Exp.3,non-cannulated lactating dairy cows).The study investigated the PLS effect on ruminal fermentation,microbial populations,methane production and concentration,dry matter intake(DMI),and fatty acid(FA)proportions in ruminal fluid and ***:Several variables of the ruminal fluid were changed in response to the inclusion of *** Exp.1,the p H increased linearly and quadratically,whereas ammonia and total volatile fatty acid(VFA)concentrations increased linearly and cubically.A linear,quadratic,and cubical decrease in methane concentration was observed with increasing dose of the ***.2 revealed an increase in ruminal p H and ammonia concentrations,but no changes in total VFA *** of PLS increased ruminal propionate(at 3 h and 6 h after feeding),isovalerate,and valerate *** of PLS also affected several populations of the analyzed *** abundances of protozoa and bacteria were increased,whereas the abundance of archaea were decreased by *** production decreased by 11%and 14%in PLS-fed cows compared to the control in Exp.2 and 3,***.3 revealed a reduction in the milk protein and lactose yield in the PLS-fed cows,but no effect on DMI and energy corrected milk ***,the PLS diet affected the ruminal biohydrogenation process with an increased proportions of C18:3 cis-9 cis-12 cis-15,conjugated linoleic acid,C18:1 trans-11 FA,polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA),and reduced n6/n3 ratio and saturated fatty acids(SFA)proportion in *** relative transcript abundances of the 5 of 6 analyzed genes regulating FA metabolism ***:The dietary PLS replacing the alfalfa silage at 60 g/kg diet can red

Dear Editor,The atypical chemokine receptor ACKR3 has recently been reported to act as an opioid scavenger with unique negative regulatory properties towards different families of opioid ***,we show that conolidine,a natural analgesic alkaloid used in traditional Chinese medicine,targets ACKR3,thereby providing additional proof of a correlation between ACKR3 and pain modulation and opening alternative therapeutic avenues for the treatment of chronic pain.

Biochar Based Inoculants Improve Soybean Growth and Nodulation

Most rhizobial inoculants that stimulate legume yield are applied with carriers that enhance root contact. The physicochemical properties of biochar are suitable for microbial growth, and it could be an alternative to peat, which comes from decreasing reserves but is the commonest solid inoculant carrier. The aim of the current research was to evaluate biochars as carriers of bradyrhizobia in solid inoculant and as coatings for seeds. Biochars and peat were inoculated with Bradyrhizobium japonicum strain 532C and storage time was assessed. A seed coating system was developed using biochar, bacteria liquid culture, water, and guar gum. The viability of bacteria in the coating and in solid biochar was evaluated at 4°C and 21°C. Two biochars were selected for a germination assay. Finally, greenhouse experimentation investigated the effect of biochar inoculant and seed coating on soybean growth and nutrient uptake. The storage time experiment showed that not all biochars equally sustain bacteria survival over time. The germination assay demonstrated that biochar seed coating had no effect on soybean germination. Greenhouse experimentation indicated that the effect of Pyrovac biochar on soybean growth characteristics and nutrient uptake depended on the fertilizer. The main finding was that biochar solid inoculant positively affected plant growth metrics, root characteristics, and the chemical composition of plants supplied with N-free nutrient solution.
