Objective:To determine the efficacy of WHO impregnated paper and CDC coated bottle based on number of storage days and number of limes of consecutive use,in the assessment of insecticide vector susceptibility tests in laboratory and field ***:Larvae and pupae of Anopheles gambiae *** were collected from the breeding sites in Seme-Kpodji and Cotonou districts in Southern Benin in April 2013 during the first rainy *** gambiae *** were also collected from the breeding sites in Parakou district in Northern Benin in May 2013 at the beginning of the rainy *** tests were done using impregnated paper with bendiocarb(0.1%)following WHO protocol and stock solutions of permethrin(21.5 ug per bottle)and deltamethrin(12.5 ug per bottle)following CDC protocol on unfed female mosquitoes aged 2-5 days *** bioassays were repeated a certain number of *** temperature and relative humidity were monitored and recorded during the susceptibility ***:This study showed that a WHO impregnated paper with bendiocarb could be used four times during four consecutive days in field *** a Wheaton coated bottle with permethrin or deltamethrin,they could be used at least three limes during four consecutive days in laboratory ***:The day storage and the number of times that a WHO impregnated paper and a CDC coated bottle maintained their efficacy are useful in the assessment of insecticide vectors susceptibility tests.

Estimating Pinus palustris tree diameter and stem volume from tree height,crown area and stand-level parameters

Accurate and efficient estimation of forest growth and live biomass is a critical element in assessing potential responses to forest management and environmental change. The objective of this study was to develop models to predict longleaf pine tree diameter at breast height （dbh） and merchantable stem volume （V） using data obtained from field measurements. We used longleaf pine tree data from 3,376 planted trees on 127 permanent plots located in the u.S. Gulf Coastal Plain region to fit equations to predict dbh and V as functions of tree height （H） and crown area （CA）. Prediction of dbh as a function of H improved when CA was added as an additional independent variable. Similarly, predic- tions of V based on H improved when CA was included. Incorporation of additional stand variables such as age, site index, dominant height, and stand density were also evaluated but resulted in only small improvements in model performance. For model testing we used data from planted and naturally-regenerated trees located inside and outside the geographic area used for model fitting. Our results suggest that the models are a robust alternative for dbh and V estimations when H and CA are known on planted stands with potential for naturally-regenerated stands, across a wide range of ages. We discuss the importance of these models for use with metrics derived from remote sensing data.

Due to their impact on nuclear organization,enhancers are master regulators of cell fate.1,2 The immunoglobulin heavy chain(IgH)locus undergoes numerous changes(such as transcription,accessibility,DNA breaks,and mutations)throughout B-cell *** of these events are controlled by the IgH 3′regulatory region(3′RR).The 3′RR is the master control element of mature B-cell IgH transcription,3 somatic hypermutation(SHM),4,5 conventional class switch recombination(CSR),4,6–10 and locus suicide recombination(LSR).11 In contrast,the 3′RR is expected to be dispensable for V(D)J recombination.12,13 During Bcell development,the heavy and light chain loci are poised for their VDJ and VJ rearrangements,*** IgH locus rearranges first,with D-J joining at the pro-B-cell stages,followed by V-DJ joining at the pre-B-cell *** Igk locus is poised for VJ rearrangements at the pre-B cell stage.

Sporadic versus hereditary gastrinomas of the duodenum and pancreas: Distinct clinico-pathological and epidemiological features

Gastrinomas are defined as gastrin secreting tumors that are associated with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome （ZES）. ZES is characterized by elevated fasting gastrin serum levels, positive secretin stimulation test and clinical symptoms such as recurrent peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease and occasional diarrhea. Genetically, nonhereditary （sporadic） gastrinomas are distinguished from hereditary gastrinomas, which are associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 （MEN1） syndrome. In general, duodenal gastrinomas are small and solitary if they are sporadic and multiple as well as hereditary. The sporadic gastrinomas occur in the duodenum or in the pancreas while the hereditary gastrinomas almost all occur in the duodenum. Our series of 77 sporadic duodenal neuroendocrine tumors （NETs） includes 18 patients （23.4%） with gastrinomas and ZES. Of 535 sporadic NETs in the pancreas collected from the NET archives of the departments of pathology in Zürich, Switzerland, and Kiel, Germany, 24 patients （4.5%） suffered from sporadic pancreatic gastrinomas and ZES. These NETs have to be distinguished from tumors with immunohistochemical positivity for gastrin but without evidence of ZES. An additional 19 patients suffered from MEN1 and ZES. These patients showed exclusively duodenal gastrinomas, but not pancreatic gastrinomas. The prognosis of sporadic and MEN1- associated duodenal gastrinomas is better than that of pancreatic gastrinomas, since they progress slowly to liver metastasis. In summary, sporadic and MEN1- associated gastrinomas in the duodenum and pancreas show different clinico-pathological and genetic features. The incidence of sporadic duodenal gastrin-producing tumors is increasing, possibly due to optimized diagnostic procedures. In contrast, pancreatic MEN1- associated gastrinomas seem to be extremely rare. Calibration of HVI cotton elongation measurements

Background:The strength of cotton fiber has been extensively studied and significant improvements in fiber strength have been made,but fiber elongation has largely been ignored,despite it contributing to the energy needed to break fibers,which affects fiber handling and *** Volume Instruments(HVI)measure fiber elongation but have not been calibrated for this property,making the measurement unavailable for comparative work among *** prior work,a set of elongation calibration materials had been developed based on Stelometer results.A round trial of ten Australian and *** was conducted on six cotton samples representing a range of 4.9%to 8.1%***:By scaling the HVI elongation values of each instrument to the values of the two calibration samples,the coefficient of variation in instrument measurements was reduced from an average of 34%for the uncalibrated measurements to 5%for the calibrated *** reduction in variance allows for the direct comparison of results among instruments.A single-point elongation calibration was also assessed but found to be less effective than the proposed two-point ***:The use of an effective calibration routine on HVI measurement of cotton significantly reduces the coefficient of variation of the elongation measurement within and between *** implementation of the elongation calibration will allow testing and breeding programs to implement high-speed elongation testing which makes the use of elongation values possible in breeding programs.
