Solving AC-Optimal Power Flow(OPF)problems is an essential task for grid operators to keep the power system safe for the use cases such as minimization of total generation cost or minimization of infeed curtailment from renewable DERs(Distributed Energy Resource).Mathematical solvers are often able to solve the AC-OPF problem but need significant computation *** neural networks(ANN)have a good application in function approximation with outstanding computational *** this paper,we employ ANN to approximate the solution of AC-OPF for multiple *** novelty of our work is a new training method based on the reinforcement learning concept.A high-performance batched power flow solver is used as the physical environment for training,which evaluates an augmented loss function and the numerical action *** augmented loss function consists of the objective term for each use case and the penalty term for constraints *** training method enables training without a reference OPF and the integration of discrete decision variable such as discrete transformer tap changer position in the constrained *** improve the optimality of the approximation,we further combine the reinforcement training approach with supervised training labeled by reference *** benchmark results show the high approximation quality of our proposed approach while achieving high computational efficiency on multiple use cases.

Shorebird populations are declining worldwide,mainly due to human disturbances and loss of coastal ***,supratidal habitats as saltpans could play a role in buffering human *** have shown to be important as feeding or breeding sites of some shorebird species.A potential conservation strategy to increase shorebird populations in saltpans is to manipulate the cues that birds use to select optimal breeding *** it is hypothesized that shorebirds are attracted to bivalve shells due to the advantages they *** this hypothesis,we supplemented a restored saltpan in 2019 and 2021 with bivalve shells,expecting an increase in the number of breeding birds’ *** than 75% of Kentish Plover(Charadrius alexandrinus) and Little Tern(Sternula albifrons) nests were found in patches with shells in both *** best model for both species indicates that the presence of shells is the factor that most correlates with the location of *** probability of choosing one place over another to settle their nest increases in areas with an abundance of shells,double in the case of the Kentish Plover and triple in the case of the Little *** result of this study may constitute a valuable tool for attracting birds to restored saltpans and could contribute to the success of expensive restoration projects where time is usually a constraint.

Determination of the sensible heat effectiveness and pressure loss of a rotary regenerative heat exchanger using CFD

The paper presents a new method to determine the sensible effectiveness and pressure loss of rotary regenerative heat exchangers using computational fluid dynamics(CFD).It is based on CFD simulations of a single thermal wheel microchannel with a small cross-sectional area and thin walls,with cyclic inlet and outlet boundary *** unique measurement set-ups were designed and built for the experimental measurement of the heat exchanger *** different types of thermal wheels were manufactured,measured,and simulated in ANSYS *** wheels achieve an effectiveness greater than 73%under certain(air flow)conditions,which is the minimum effectiveness required by Ecodesign(in the EU).For the examined exchangers,the effectiveness ranges from 66.5%to 83.3%,depending on the boundary conditions and geometric parameters of the *** highest sensible effectiveness is achieved by heat exchangers with the largest heat exchange surface Ac;on the other hand,these wheels have the largest pressure *** paper discusses the use of a simplifiedε-NTU correlation model for the HVAC systems(typically C*=1).The correlation model and CFD results were compared and found to be different from each *** results of the CFD simulation were compared with measurements to prove that the proposed simulation method can predict the behaviour of the real heat exchanger as a *** was demonstrated that the sensible effectiveness and pressure loss of the rotary heat exchanger predicted by the CFD simulations correspond well to the measured values within the measurement uncertainty±1.3%.The proposed method can be used for the comparison of different rotary regenerative heat exchangers before their manufacturing and for verification that they meet the EU Ecodesign requirements set by the current *** reduces the cost of the initial optimisation and testing of new designs.

Brillouin Optical Time-Domain Analysis(BOTDA)is a widely-used distributed optical fiber sensing technology employing pulse-modulated pump waves for local information retrieval of the Brillouin gain or loss *** spatial resolution of BOTDA systems is intrinsically linked to pulse duration,so high-resolution measurements demand high electronic bandwidths inversely proportional to the *** paper introduces Brillouin Expanded Time-Domain Analysis(BETDA)as a modified BOTDA system,simultaneously achieving high spatial resolution and low detection *** two optical frequency combs(OFCs)with different frequency intervals as pump and probe,local Brillouin gain spectra are recorded by their spectral beating traces in an expanded time domain.A 2-cm-long hotspot located in a 230m single-mode fiber is successfully measured in the time domain with a detection bandwidth of less than 100 kHz using dual OFCs with tailored spectral phase,line spacing,and bandwidth.

Development of an inflatable solar dryer for improved postharvest handling of paddy rice in humid climates

Rice is the staple food for more than three billion people *** considerable progress has been made with respect to improved breeds and production practices,losses during postharvest handling remain *** and storage of paddy are two key stages where management can be *** rice,grain moisture content of 14%prevents microbiological activity,while a level of about 12%minimizes quality losses over prolonged storage *** to the need for simple and economical technologies,an inflatable solar dryer(ISD)was developed based on adaptations of the Hohenheim-type solar tunnel *** form a drying tunnel,transparent polyethylene(PE)film attaches by zipper to a reinforced black polyvinyl chloride(PVC)*** reduce heat loss,a flexible multilayer floor was used along the drying *** tunnel does not need a substructure as it is stabilized adequately from pressure created by two axial flow *** experiments,paddy was spread on the floor and mixed with a special roller *** ISD has been evaluated for paddy in the Philippines during both rainy and dry seasons and was subsequently *** drying and shade drying were carried out in parallel for comparison and product was evaluated for moisture content and quality in terms of milling recovery and head rice *** content was reduced from 23%to 14%within 26-52 h of continuous operation during the rainy season and 16%to 14%within 4-26 h of drying during the dry *** both seasons,the final moisture content of 12%was reached after prolonged drying *** was not found to be affected with respect to drying *** ISD showed advantages over sun drying,despite longer drying periods.

Strategies to rescue steatotic livers before transplantation in clinical and experimental studies

The shortage of donor livers has led to an increased use of organs from expanded criteria donors. Included are livers with steatosis, a metabolic abnormality that increases the likelihood of graft complications posttransplantation. After a brief introduction on the etiology, pathophysiology, categories and experimental models of hepatic steatosis, we herein review the methods to rescue steatotic donor livers before transplantation applied in clinical and experimental studies. The methods span the spectrum of encouraging donor weight loss, employing drug therapy, heat shock preconditioning, ischemia preconditioning and selective anesthesia on donors, and the treatment on isolated grafts during preservation. These methods work at different stages of transplantation process, although share similar molecular mechanisms including lipid metabolism stimulation through enzymes or nuclear receptor e.g. , peroxisomal proliferator-activated receptor, or anti-inflammation through suppressing cytokines e.g. , tumor necrosis factor-α, or antioxidant therapies to alleviate oxidative stress. This similarity of molecular mechanisms implies possible future attempts to reinforce each approach by repeating the same treatment approach at several stages of procurement and preservation, as well as utilizing these alternative approaches in tandem.

Dear Editor, We present here the first report linking a specific gene, ribosomal protein L29 （Rp129）, also known as Hip （heparin/heparan sulfate interacting protein）, to the mammalian sperm flagellar morphological anomaly termed the ＂dag＂ defect. In addition, we show that loss of Rp/29 invariably results in low sperm motility with infertility accompanying this abnormality.
