Slice Thickness Optimization for the Focused Ion Beam-Scanning Electron Microscopy 3D Tomography of Hierarchical Nanoporous gold

The combination of focused ion beam (FIB) with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), also known as FIB-SEM tomography, has become a powerful 3D imaging technique at the nanometer scale. This method uses an ion beam to mill away a thin slice of material, which is then block-face imaged using an electron beam. With consecutive slicing along the z-axis and subsequent imaging, a volume of interest can be reconstructed from the images and further analyzed. Hierarchical nanoporous gold (HNPg) exhibits unique structural properties and has a ligament size of 15–110 nm and pore size of 5–20 nm. Accurate reconstruction of its image is crucial in determining its mechanical and other properties. Slice thickness is one of the most critical and uncertain parameters in FIB-SEM tomography. For HNPg, the slice thickness should be at least half as thin as the pore size and, in our approach, should not exceed 10 nm. Variations in slice thickness are caused by various microscope and sample parameters, e.g., converged ion milling beam shape, charging effects, beam drift, or sample surface roughness. Determining and optimizing the actual slice thickness variation appear challenging. In this work, we examine the influence of ion beam scan resolution and the dwell time on the mean and standard deviation of slice thickness. After optimizing the resolution and dwell time to achieve the target slice thickness and lowest possible standard deviation, we apply these parameters to analyze an actual HNPg sample. Our approach can determine the thickness of each slice along the z-axis and estimate the deviation of the milling process along the y-axis (slow imaging axis). For this function, we create a multi-ruler structure integrated with the HNPg sample.

In this article, we prove the following statement that is true for both unbounded and bounded Vilenkin systems： for any ε∈ （0, 1）, there exists a measurable set E C [0, 1） of measure bigger than 1 - s such that for any function f ∈ LI[0, 1）, it is possible to find a function g ∈ L^1 [0, 1） coinciding with f on E and the absolute values of non zero Fourier coefficients of g with respect to the Vilenkin system are monotonically decreasing.

Low-energy ion channeling in nanocubes

Focused ion beam(FIB)processing with low-energy ions has become a standard technique for the manipulation of *** underlying ion beam effects that deviate from conventional high-energy ion irradiation of bulk systems are considered today;however,ion channeling with its consequence of significant deeper penetration depth has been only theoretically investigated in this *** present here an experimental approach to determine the channeling of low-energy ions in crystalline nanoparticles by measuring the sputter yield derived from scanning electron microscopy(SEM)images taken after irradiation under various incident ion *** maps of 30 and 20 keV ga+ions in Ag nanocubes have been identified and fit well with the ***,channeling has a significant impact on the transport of energetic ions in crystals due to the large critical angle at low ion energies,thus being relevant for any ***,the obtained sputter yield clearly differs from amorphous materials;therefore,it is recommended not to rely only on,e.g.,ion distribution depths predicted by standard Monte-Carlo(MC)algorithms for amorphous materials.

Effect of Wood-drying Condensate on Emission of Volatile Organic Compounds and Bonding Properties of Fibreboard

Potential use of condensate generated by cooling the steam obtained during high-frequency/vacuum drying step of hardwood lumber was *** liquid condensates were obtained from oak,beech and walnut *** liquid condensate was then used as a replacement for deionized water in the synthesis of Urea-Formaldehyde(UF)resin(5 wt%of total resin)using a laboratory scale *** Density Fibreboards(MDFs)were produced using control and modified *** of Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs)from the MDFs were determined by Micro Chamber *** bonding properties of the MDFs were determined according to European *** main VOC emissions from MDFs produced using UF resin containing the condensate were a-Pinene,b-Pinene,careen,and acetic acid,which were lower than those of the control MDF,except for the acetic acid emission of MDF with oak *** the tree species,the beech wood condensate gave the lowest VOC emissions(732μg·m^-3)from the MDFs,followed by the MDFs containing walnut wood condensate(852μg·m^-3),oak wood condensate(998μg·m^-3),and control MDF(3529μg·m^-3),***,the internal bond strength of MDFs containing the condensate was negatively impacted by the condensate(0.70 N·mm^-2 to 0.54 N·mm^-2 depending on the tree species).The results showed that the liquid wood-drying condensate which generally released to the ground could be efficiently used as an alternative to expensive VOCs scavenger used in the production of UF resin bonded *** may be one of the most efficient uses of the condensate in high value-added materials.

Transition metal sulfides have been regarded as promising anode materials for sodium-ion batteries(SIB).However,they face the challenges of poor electronic conductivity and large volume change,which result in capacity fade and low rate *** this work,a composite containing ultrasmall CoS(~7 nm)nanoparticles embedded in heteroatom(N,S,and O)-doped carbon was synthesized by an efficient one-step sulfidation process using a Co(Salen)*** ultrasmall CoS nanoparticles are beneficial for mechanical stability and shortening Na-ions diffusion ***,the N,S,and O-doped defect-rich carbon provides a robust and highly conductive framework enriched with active sites for sodium storage as well as mitigates volume expansion and polysulfide *** anode for SIB,CoS@HDC exhibits a high initial capacity of 906 mA h g^(-1)at 100 mA g^(-1)and a stable long-term cycling life with over 1000 cycles at 500 mA g^(-1),showing a reversible capacity of 330 mA h g^(-1).Meanwhile,the CoS@HDC anode is proven to maintain its structural integrity and compositional reversibility during ***,Na-ion full batteries based on the CoS@HDC anode and Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)cathode demonstrate a stable cycling behavior with a reversible specific capacity of~200 m A h g^(-1)at least for 100 ***,advanced synchrotron operando X-ray diffraction,ex-situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy,and comprehensive electrochemical tests reveal the structural transformation and the Co coordination chemistry evolution of the CoS@HDC during cycling,providing fundamental insights into the sodium storage mechanism.

H^2-Stabilization of the Isothermal Euler Equations: a Lyapunov Function Approach

The authors consider the problem of boundary feedback stabilization of the 1D Euler gas dynamics locally around stationary states and prove the exponential stability with respect to the H^2-norm. To this end, an explicit Lyapunov function as a weighted and squared H^2-norm of a small perturbation of the stationary solution is constructed. The authors show that by a suitable choice of the boundary feedback conditions, the H^2-exponential stability of the stationary solution follows. Due to this fact, the system is stabilized over an infinite time interval. Furthermore, exponential estimates for the C^1-norm are derived.

This paper proposes a cryptographic technique on images based on the Sudoku *** is a number puzzle,which needs applying defined protocols and filling the empty boxes with *** a small size of numbers as input,solving the sudoku puzzle yields an expanded big size of numbers,which can be used as a key for the Encryption/Decryption of *** this way,the given small size of numbers can be stored as the prime key,which means the key is compact.A prime key clue in the sudoku puzzle always leads to only one solution,which means the key is always *** feature is the background for the paper,where the Sudoku puzzle output can be innovatively introduced in image *** solution is expanded to any size image using a sequence of expansion techniques that involve filling of the number matrix,Linear X-Y rotational shifting,and reverse shifting based on a standard zig-zag *** crypto key for an image dictates the details of positions,where the image pixels have to be *** is made at two levels,namely pixel and sub-pixel(RgB)levels for an image,with the latter having more effective *** brought-out technique falls under the Image scrambling method with partial *** metrics are impressive and are given by a Histogram deviation of 0.997,a Correlation coefficient of 10−2 and an NPCR of 99.98%.Hence,it is evident that the image cryptography with the sudoku kept in place is more efficient against Plaintext and Differential attacks.

Engineering of immunoinstructive extracellular matrices for enhanced osteoinductivity

The increasing recognition of the contribution of the immune system to activate and prime regeneration implies that tissue engineering strategies and biomaterials design should target regulation of early immunological *** previously proposed the cell-based engineering and devitalization of extracellular matrices(ECMs)as a strategy to generate implant materials delivering custom-defined ***,in the context of bone regeneration,we aimed at enhancing the osteoinductivity of such ECMs by enriching their immunomodulatory factors *** with IL1βa cell line overexpressing BMP-2 enabled engineering of ECMs preserving osteoinductive signals and containing larger amounts of angiogenic(VEgF)and pro-inflammatory molecules(IL6,IL8 and MCP1).Upon implantation,these IL1β-induced materials enhanced processes typical of the inflammatory phase(e.g.,vascular invasion,osteoclast recruitment and differentiation),leading to‘regenerative’events(e.g.,M2 macrophage polarization)and ultimately resulting in faster and more efficient bone *** results bear relevance towards the manufacturing of potent off-the-shelf osteoinductive materials and outline the broader paradigm of engineering immunoinstructive implants to enhance tissue regeneration.

Striatins and STRIPAK complex partners in clinical outcomes of patients with breast cancer and responses to drug treatment

Objective: Striatins(STRNs) family, which contains three multi-domain scaffolding proteins, are cornerstones of the striatins interacting phosphatase and kinase(STRIPAK) complex. Although the role of the STRIPAK complex in cancer has become recognized in recent years, its clinical significance in breast cancer has not been fully ***: Using a freshly frozen breast cancer tissue cohort containing both cancerous and adjacent normal mammary tissues, we quantitatively evaluated the transcript-level expression of all members within the STRIPAK complex along with some key interacting and regulatory proteins of STRNs. The expression profile of each molecule and the integrated pattern of the complex members were assessed against the clinical-pathological factors of the patients. The Cancer genome Atlas(TCgA) dataset was used to evaluate the breast cancer patients’ response to chemotherapies. Four human breast cancer cell lines, MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-361, MCF-7, and SKBR-3, were subsequently adopted for in vitro ***: Here we found that high-level expressions of STRIP2, calmodulin, CCM3, MINK1 and SLMAP were respectively associated with shorter overall survival(OS) of patients. Although the similar pattern observed for STRN3, STRN4 and a contrary pattern observed for PPP2CA, PPP2CB and PPPR1A were not significant, the integrated expression profile of STRNs group and PPP2 group members constitutes a highly significant prognostic indicator for OS [Pgical functions including adhesiveness and migration. In line with our clinical findings, the breast cancer cells responded to STRN3 knockdown with changes in their chemo-sensitivity, of which the response is also breast cancer subtype ***: Our results suggest a possible role of the STRIPAK complex
