The applicability of immune-competent mice to model metastatic tumor progression is limited by the immunogenicity of exogenous proteins like GFP and firefly(ff)luciferase commonly used to track metastatic cells.A recent work published in Cancer Cell by Grzelak and colleagues now shows that development of mouse models that have been centrally tolerized to GFP can overcome this obstacle in transplantation models of metastasis.

Background:Obesity and associated steatosis is an increasing health problem *** influence on post-hepatectomy liver failure(PHLF)and after liver resection(LR)is still ***:Patients who underwent LR were investigated and divided into three groups[normal weight:body mass index(BMI)18.5-24.9 kg/m2,overweight:BMI 25.0-29.9 kg/m2,obese:BMI≥30 kg/m2]in this retrospective *** aim of this study was to assess the influence of BMI and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)on PHLF and ***:Of 888 included patients,361(40.7%)had normal weight,360(40.5%)were overweight,167(18.8%)were *** age was 62.5 years(IQR,54-69 years).The primary indication for LR was colorectal liver metastases(CLM)(n=366,41.2%).NASH was present in 58(16.1%)of normal weight,84(23.3%)of overweight and 69(41.3%)of obese patients(P<0.001).PHLF occurred in 16.3%in normal weight,15.3%in overweight and 11.4%in obese patients(P=0.32).NASH was not associated with *** was no association between patients’weight and the occurrence of postoperative complications(P=0.45).At multivariable analysis,solely major LR[odds ratio(OR):2.7,95%confidence interval(CI):1.83-4.04;P<0.001]remained a significant predictor for ***:Postoperative complications and PHLF are comparable in normal weight,overweight and obese patients and LRs using modern techniques can be safely performed in these patients.

The influence of intrinsic defects of 1T-TaS_(2)on charge density waves(CDWs)is studied using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy(STM,STS),angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy(ARPES),and density functional theory(DFT).We identify several types of structural defects and find that most have a local character limited to a single CDW site,with a single exception which effectively behaves as a dopant,leading to band-bending and affecting multiple neighboring *** only one type of defect can be observed by STM topographic imaging,all defects are easily resolved in STS *** results indicate modulation of the Mott band gap commensurate with the CDW and breaking of the three-fold symmetry of electronic *** calculations(with included Coulomb interactions)are used to investigate the electronic structure,focusing on both sulfur vacancy and oxygen-sulfur *** sulfur vacancy system,characterized with a metallic behavior,is identified as the origin of one of the experimentally observed ***,the effect of oxidation of 1T-TaS_(2)depends on the substitution site,leading to the heterogeneity of electronic properties.

AIM:To evaluate the safety and efficacy of vitamin E in children with chronic hepatitis ***:We randomly assigned patients with chronic hepatitis B,positive for hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg),to receive either vitamin E or placebo once daily for 6 mo in a 3:1 ratio and double-blind *** primary end point was HBeAg seroconversion,defined as the loss of HBeAg,undetectable levels of serum hepatitis B virus DNA,and the appearance of antibodies against HBeAg 12 mo after ***:At baseline visit,49 patients had normal and 43 had increased serum aminotransferase ***-nine patients did not respond to previous treatment with interferon-α or ***-six children completed the study;16 were non-compliant(n = 7),lost to follow-up(n = 7),or started another antiviral treatment(n = 3).Intention-to-treat analysis showed HBeAg seroconversion in 16 children(23.2%) treated with vitamin E and two(8.7%) in the placebo group(P = 0.13).Vitamin E was well ***:There is only a tendency that vitamin E may promote HBeAg *** larger studies are needed to clarify the role of antioxidants in the therapy of chronic hepatitis B.

Long lifetime sustainable porous asphalt concrete containing steel fibers was designed. The material is self healing in such a sense that some external stimulus is needed in the form of heating by induction energy. Steel wool was added to porous asphalt concrete to enhance its electrical conductivity and induction heating was applied to increase the temperature to heal the micro-cracks and repair the bonding between aggregate and binder. The main purpose of this paper is to examine the mechanical properties of this sustainable porous asphalt concrete including indirect tensile strength,work of fracture,particle loss resistance and water sensitivity. It is found that adding steel fibers to porous asphalt concrete to increase the healing performance also can improve its overall mechanical properties.

Optimization of Ceramic Paste Viscosity Use for the Elaboration of Tubular Membrane Support by Extrusion and Its Application

The objective of this work was to determine the optimum size and amount of raw materials which influence the viscosity of ceramic paste using the experimental design for the production of tubular support by the extrusion technique and its application in microfiltration. The Box Behnken design was used to optimize the viscosity of the ceramic paste. ANOVA was used to model the system represented by independent parameters and dependent output response and to optimize the system by estimating the statistical parameters. A three-factor and three-level design was used generating thus 15 experiments. The independent factors were the amount of porogen, size of porogen and amount of binder and dependent factor the viscosity of the ceramic paste. The minimum (−1), intermediate (0) and maximum (+1) level of the amount of porogen, size of porogen and amount of binder used were 20 g, 30 g and 40 g, 50 μm, 100 μm and 150 μm, and 2 g, 3.5 g and 5 g respectively. The statistical analyses showed that the values of the answers would adapt to a second degree polynomial model. The R-square value obtained was greater than 95%, the Biais factor was equal to the unit and the Absolute Average Deviation (AAD) equal to the zero thus validating the model. The optimal size of raw material was found to be 100 μm for an amount of clay of 66 g, amount of porogen of 30 g and amount of binder of 4 g. The optimum viscosity of the ceramic paste was found to be 26.7 Pa∙s which is close to the viscosity of the clay paste only found to be 28.5 Pa∙s, thus good for shaping by the extrusion technique. The ceramic paste showed a pseudo-plastic behavior. The tubular porous support was sintered at 950°C and the dimensions, such as outer and inner diameters and length of the tube were 4 cm, 2 cm, and 19 cm, respectively. The sintered membrane possesses a porosity of 43.5%, water permeability of 244.9 L/h∙m2 bar, an average pore size of 2.4 μm and mechanical strength of 9.2 MPa with ver
