AIM: To evaluate if canine models are appropriate for teaching endoscopy fellows the techniques of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). METHODS: ESD was performed in 10 canine models under general anesthesia, on artificial lesions of the esophagus or stomach marked with coagulation points. After ESD, each canine model was euthanized and surgical resection of the esophagus or stomach was carried out according to "The Principles of Humane Experimental Technique, Russel and Burch". The ESD specimens were fixed with needles on cork submerged in a formol solution with the esophagus or stomach, and delivered to the pathology department to be analyzed. RESULTS: ESD was completed without complications using the Hook-knife in five esophageal areas, with a procedural duration of 124 ± 19 min, a length of 27.4 ± 2.6 mm and a width of 21 ± 2.4 mm. ESD was also completed without complications using the IT-knife2 in five gastric areas, with a procedural duration of 92.6 ± 19 min, a length of 32 ± 2.5 mm and a width of 18 ± 3.7 mm. CONCLUSION: ESD is feasible in the normal esopha- gus and stomach of canine models, which are appropriate for teaching this technique.

Two methodologies to rank exploitation scenarios for hydrocarbon fields during screening and concept selection stages are described and compared. First a selection based on net present value valuation is introduced and an explanation on its limitations for field planning are given thus, a second selection based on a multiattribute decision model where other technical factors not directly associated to economics such as operability and reliability are considered. A comparison of net present value and the multiattribute decision model on a concept selection study case shows differences on the scenario selection for exploitation. Sources of the different outcomes between the two methodologies are identified. A stochastic analysis for the multiattribute decision model is performed to have a complete view of the possible outcomes since the factors in the multiattribute decision model are measured qualitatively and their values can vary depending on experts’ knowledge and experience. Recommendations obtained from the methodologies studied for screening and concept selection are given.

BACKGROUND The influence of Helicobacter-pylori(***)infection and the characteristics of gastric cancer(GC)on tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte(TIL)levels has not been extensively *** of infiltrating-immune-cell subtypes as well as survival is necessary to obtain comprehensive *** To determine the rates of deficient mismatch-repair(dMMR),HER2-status and *** infection and their association with TIL levels in *** Samples from 503 resected GC tumors were included and TIL levels were evaluated following the international-TILs-working-group recommendations with assessment of the intratumoral(IT),stromal(ST)and invasive-border(IB)*** density of CD3,CD8 and CD163 immune cells,and dMMR and HER2-status were determined by immunohistochemistry(IHC).*** infection was evaluated by routine histology and quantitative PCR(qPCR)in a subset of *** dMMR was found in 34.4%,HER2+in 5%and ***-positive in 55.7%of *** IT-TIL was associated with grade-3(P=0.038),while ST-TIL with grade-1(P<0.001),intestinal-histology(P<0.001)and no-recurrence(P=0.003).dMMR was associated with high TIL levels in the ST(P=0.019)and IB(P=0.01)compartments,and STCD3(P=0.049)and ST-CD8(P=0.05)***2-was associated with high IT-CD8(P=0.009).*** was associated with high IT-TIL levels(P=0.009)when assessed by routine-histology,and with high TIL levels in the 3 compartments(P=0.002-0.047)and CD8 density in the IT and ST compartments(P=0.001)when assessed by qPCR.A longer overall survival was associated with low IT-CD163(P=0.003)and CD8/CD3(P=0.001 in IT and P=0.002 in ST)and high IT-CD3(P=0.021),ST-CD3(P=0.003)and CD3/CD163(P=0.002).CONCLUSION TIL levels were related to dMMR and *** CD8/CD3 and high CD163/CD3 were associated with lower recurrence and longer survival.

以棕榈油脂肪酸甲酯(fatty acid methyl ester,FAME)和三羟甲基丙烷(trimethylolpropane,TMP)为原料,经酯交换反应制备可用作生物润滑油基础油的三羟甲基丙烷脂肪酸三酯(trimethylolpropane fatty acidtiester,TFATE)。通过比较FAME的转化率和TFATE在反应混合物中的含量,探讨了催化剂种类、催化剂用量、反应时间、反应温度、反应物物质的量比及真空度对反应的影响。最佳合成条件为:催化剂为三羟甲基丙烷钾(Trimethylolpropane mono potassium salt,TMP-K),催化剂添加量为TMP-K与TMP物质的量比0.02∶1,反应时间1 h,反应温度128℃,FAME与TMP物质的量比4∶1,反应压力为300 Pa,在此条件下,脂肪酸甲酯的转化率为91.78%,反应混合物中TFATE质量分数为90.11%。经分子蒸馏分离纯化后终产品TFATE质量分数为97.02%。

Differentiation of periapical granulomas and cysts by using dental MRI: a pilot study

The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate whether periapical granulomas can be differentiated from periapical cysts in vivo by using dental magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). Prior to apicoectomy, 11 patients with radiographically confirmed periapical lesions underwent dental MRI, including fat-saturated T2-weighted(T2 wFS) images, non-contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images with and without fat saturation(T1 w/T1 wFS), and contrast-enhanced fat-saturated T1-weighted(T1 wFS+C) images. Two independent observers performed structured image analysis of MRI datasets twice. A total of 15 diagnostic MRI criteria were evaluated, and histopathological results(6 granulomas and 5 cysts) were compared with MRI characteristics. Statistical analysis was performed using intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC), Cohen’s kappa(κ), Mann–Whitney U-test and Fisher’s exact test. Lesion identification and consecutive structured image analysis was possible on T2 wFS and T1 wFS+C MRI images. A high reproducibility was shown for MRI measurements of the maximum lesion diameter(intraobserver ICC = 0.996/0.998; interobserver ICC = 0.997), for the "peripheral rim" thickness(intraobserver ICC = 0.988/0.984; interobserver ICC = 0.970), and for all non-quantitative MRI criteria(intraobserver-κ = 0.990/0.995; interobserver-κ = 0.988). In accordance with histopathological results, six MRI criteria allowed for a clear differentiation between cysts and granulomas:(1) outer margin of lesion,(2) texture of "peripheral rim" in T1 wFS+C,(3)texture of "lesion center" in T2 wFS,(4) surrounding tissue involvement in T2 wFS,(5) surrounding tissue involvement in T1 wFS+C and(6) maximum "peripheral rim" thickness(all: P < 0.05). In conclusion, this pilot study indicates that radiation-free dental MRI enables a reliable differentiation between periapical cysts and granulomas in vivo. Thus, MRI may substantially improve treatment strategies and help to avoid unnecessary surgery in apical periodontitis.

AIM:To compare choroidal neovascularization(CNV)lesion measurements obtained by in vivo imaging modalities,with whole mount histological preparations stained with isolectin GS-IB4,using a murine laser-induced CNV ***:B6 ***-Tg(Csf1 r-EGFP)1 Hume/j heterozygous adult mice were subjected to laser-induced CNV and were monitored by fluorescein angiography(FA),multicolor(MC)fundus imaging and optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)at day 14 after CNV *** pigment epithelium(RPE)whole mounts were prepared at the end of the experiment and were stained with isolectin *** areas were measured in all different imaging modalities at day 14 after CNV from three independent raters and were compared to choroidal-RPE whole *** correlation coefficient(ICC)type 2(2-way random model)and its 95%confidence intervals(CI)were calculated to measure the correlation between different raters’***’s rank correlation coefficient(Spearman’s r)was calculated for the comparison between FA,MC and OCTA data and histology ***:FA(early and late)and MC correlates well with the CNV measurements ex vivo with FA having slightly better correlation than MC(FA early Spearman’s r=0.7642,FA late Spearman’s r=0.7097,and MC Spearman’s r=0.7418),while the interobser ver reliability was good for both techniques(FA early ICC=0.976,FA late ICC=0.964,and MC ICC=0.846).In contrast,OCTA showed a poor correlation with ex vivo measurements(Spearman’s r=0.05716)and high variability between different raters(ICC=0.603).CONCLUSION:This study suggests that FA and MC imaging could be used for the evaluation of CNV areas in vivo while caution must be taken and comparison studies should be performed when OCTA is employed as a CNV monitoring tool in small rodents.

Freshwater salmonids gain increasing popularity as diet fish and are an important dietary source of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) for humans. The aim of this study was to investigate effects of alternative feeds from domestic sources on fish growth and lipid composition of the sparctic Alsatian charr (Salvelinus alpinus X fontinalis), commonly used in freshwater aquaculture in Europe. In this fish feeding experiment, we used a control feed (32% fish meal;feed F1) and experimental diets containing generally only half the amount of fish meal, which was replaced in equal parts by poultry (F2), two different pork by-product meals (F3 and F4), plant-based feeds (F5), or by a feed containing 25% fish and 15% poultry meal (F6) that had a similar caloric value compared to the other feeds. Six hundred charrs of similar initial weight (ca. 90 g) were randomly distributed into 12 tanks (50/tank) of 1.4 m3, supplied with subalpine spring water, and fed one of the feeds. Fish biomass development was the highest in fish fed diet F6, followed by F1, F2, and F5. Pork by-product meals as partial replacement of fish meal resulted on average in a 25% lower biomass gain compared to charr feeding on poultry by-product meal (F6). The use of poultry or pork by-product meals as partial fish meal replacements did not significantly change the total lipids or fatty acids retained in these fish. This study shows that these alternative feeds, with similar lipid sources, had no significant effect on the fatty acid composition in Alsatian charr, however, poultry by-product meal as partial replacement of marine fish meal clearly enhanced charr biomass by 15% relative to conventional fish meals.
