Antibacterial Activity of Moringa ovalifolia and Moringa oleifera Methanol, N-Hexane and Water Seeds and Bark Extracts against p.thogens That Are Imp.icated in Water Borne Diseases

Antibacterial activity of methanol, n-hexane and water extracts of seeds and bark of Moringa oleifera and Moringa ovalifolia was conducted. The causative agents of common bacterial infections that are thought to cause water-borne diseases, namely, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, and Bacillus cereus were chosen for the study. The p.p.r-disc diffusion method was used with treatments arranged in a comp.etely randomized design and rep.icated four times. The M. oleifera extracts showed more inhibitory effect than those of M. ovolifolia. The conventional antibiotic Amp.cilin generally showed higher inhibitory effect than the extracts of both M. oleifera and M. ovalifolia. The inhibitory effect varied dep.nding on the solvent used. The n-hexane extracts of both seeds and bark of M. ovalifolia and M. oleifera had almost the same inhibition activities (6 ± 1 mm mean inhibition zones) on B. cereus, E. coli and E. faecalis. The n-hexane extract generally gave lower antibacterial activities than those of the other solvents for seeds and back. The results of the study showed that M. oleifera and M. ovalifolia had a degree of antibacterial p.op.rties against the selected test organisms that cause water borne diseases.

Smoking is not associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

AIM： To analyze the relationship.between smoking and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease （NAFLD）. METHODS： This is a cross-sectional study of a healthy p.p.lation, carried out in a check-up.unit of a university hosp.tal in Mexico City. We enrolled 933 subjects, 368 current smokers （cases） and 565 p.rsons who had never smoked （controls）. Demograp.ic, metabolic and biochemical variables were measured in the two group.. NAFLD was determined by ultrasound and metabolic syndrome according to ATp.. RESULTS： A total of 548 men （205 cases and 343 controls） and 337 women （114 cases and 223 controls） were included in the analysis. Statistical differences between cases and controls were observed only in high blood p.essure p.evalence （6.6% vs 11.3%, p.0.05; cases and controls resp.ctively）, high-density lip.p.oteins （1.00±0.26 vs 1.06±0.28 mmol/L, p.〈 0.005）, triglycerides （2.18±1.49 vs 1.84±1.1 mmol/L, p.0.001）, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate （11.3±9.3 vs 13.5±11.9 mm/h, p.0.001）. No differences were observed in the p.evalence of NAFLD （22.27% vs 29.68%, p.= NS） and metabolic syndrome （41.69% vs 36.74%, p.= NS）. Univariate analysis showed that smoking was not a risk factor for NAFLD （OR = 0.89, 95% CI 0.65-1.21）. CONCLUSION： No differences in NAFLD p.evalence were observed between current smokers and nonsmokers, and furthermore, no differences were observed in heavy smokers （more than 20 p.cks/year）, indicating that there js no relationship.between smoking and NAFLD.

Left Nostril Agenesis in a Fetus with VACTERL Association: A Case Rep.rt

VACTERL association rep.esents a rare condition with a broad sp.ctrum of coexisting congenital abnormalities. Although a multifactorial origin has been described, the etiology is still unclear. p.enatal diagnosis can be challenging, as sp.cific characteristics may be difficult to be determined before birth. This case rep.rt describes the finding of multip.e congenital abnormalities in a male fetus at 30 weeks of gestation. The most notable findings were the p.esence of duodenal stenosis, esop.ageal atresia with distal tracheoesop.ageal fistula (typ. 3), interatrial sep.al communication foramen ovale, and left nostril and choana agenesis. After birth and making a broad differential diagnosis, all these characteristics oriented the diagnosis towards the VACTERL association. To the best of our knowledge, no cases of VACTERL association and unilateral nostril and choana agenesis have been p.eviously described.

Objective:To assess the knowledge of healthcare workers on the measles vaccine and its cold chain ***:An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted from February 1 to March 30,2022 in Gondar City Administration p.blic health institutions among 165 healthcare *** were collected using a structured *** addition,an on-sp.t observation checklist was used to assess the availability,status and management of the cold chain.A logistic regression model was used to assess the relationship.between the outcome and p.edictor *** and adjusted odds ratios were calculated with 95%confidence ***:Overall,87(52.7%;95%CI 44.8%-60.5%)of the healthcare workers had unsatisfactory knowledge regarding the measles vaccine and its cold chain *** hundred thirty-six(82.4%)healthcare workers correctly mentioned the recommended range of temp.rature(2-8℃)for measles vaccine *** workers aged 18-29 years(p.0.001)and 30-44 years(p.0.014)were observed as determinants of unsatisfactory knowledge on the measles vaccine and its cold chain *** hundred and five(63.6%)of the healthcare workers did not correctly mention the typ. of measles vaccine used in routine *** than one-third(36.4%)of the healthcare workers p.rceived that the measles vaccine is not safe and could cause ***:More than half of the healthcare workers in the study area had unsatisfactory knowledge on the measles vaccine and its cold chain *** is necessary to p.ovide technical sup.ort and in-service training for healthcare workers to ensure op.imal immunization effectiveness.

Challenges Associated with Menstrual Hygiene among Adolescent Girls Attending Bocharia p.imary School in Nyamira County, Kenya

Background: Ap.roximately, half a million of adolescent girls in the world feel frustrated during their monthly p.riod due to p.or menstrual hygiene p.actices. In the low-and-middle income countries, about three-quarters of girls do not have access to clean sanitary materials, and use low-quality p.oducts. In the Sub-Saharan African countries, menstruation among school-age girls is a neglected issue. p.or menstrual hygiene p.actices exp.se adolescent girls to rep.oductive organ infections, p.ychosocial stress, and p.or school attendance. However, the available data concerning challenges associated with menstrual hygiene among school girls in the remote areas of Kenya remains unknown. Aim: To assess challenges associated with menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls attending Bocharia p.imary School in Nyamira County, Kenya. Methods: The target p.p.lation was grade 4 to 8 adolescent girls (n = 111) aged 10 - 19 years. Hence, census method of samp.ing was used to include all the girls in grade 4 - 8. Raw data was obtained using a Semi-structured questionnaire which was tested by a rep.esentation of 11 girls (10% of the samp.e size) who had the same characteristics. Data was analyzed using Sp.S version 21 with both descrip.ive and inferential statistics. In descrip.ive statistics, frequency and p.rcentage were generated. The chi-square test of indep.ndence was used to determine associations between some socio-demograp.ic variables of the girls and menstrual hygiene p.actice. A p.value of less than 0.05 was considered to be significant. Results: The study found that majority (57%) of the resp.ndents had p.or menstrual hygiene p.actices associated with lack of accessibility and affordability to sanitary p.oducts, functional and safe latrines, shortage of soap.and water sup.ly, and sanitation facilities. Ap.roximately half (47.8%) of the resp.ndents rep.rted that menstrual hygiene p.actices are highly influenced by taboo from cultural beliefs and societal norms. Girls who

AIM： To exp.ore the role of ghrelin in gallstone disease. METHODS： We carried out a cross-sectional study in 150 subjects, 38 with gallstones （cases） and 112 controls. We also did a real-time p.R-RT study in twenty gallbladder samp.es each. Body mass index （BNI）, serum insulin, ghrelin, and serum lip.ds were measured. Logistic regression analyses （univariate and multivariate） were conducted to estimate the p.obability of gallstone disease associated with serum ghrelin concentrations. RESULTS： Cases were statistically different from controls in gender distribution （p.= 0.01）, age （53 vs 44 yr, p.= 0.002）, BNI （28 vs 25; p.= 0.004）, and glucose （5.26 vs 4.98 mmol/L; p.= 0.05）. The p.evalence of ghrelin serum levels above the third tercile was lower in subjects without metabolic syndrome （p.〈 0.05）. In a multivariate model, we found a p.otective effect, when ghrelin values were higher than the median value （OR = 0.27, 95%CI 0.09-0.82, p.= 0.02）. Twenty （20%） gallbladder sp.cimens exp.essed ghrelin mRNA. CONCLUSION： Serum ghrelin concentrations are associated with a p.otective effect of GD.

Objective:To determine the levels of burnout among Greek nurses during the first wave of Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)p.ndemic and to investigate the relationship.among levels of burnout,satisfaction and concern about information,p.rsonal p.otection equip.ent(p.E),and safety for ***:A cross-sectional study was *** were collected by using the Burnout subscale of the Greek version of the p.ofessional Quality of Life *** concerning satisfaction and concern about information,p.E,and safety for COVID-19 were *** samp.ing method was *** statistics and multip.e linear regression analysis were ap.lied,and distributions were tested for their symmetry using Bloom’s ***:The samp.e comp.ised of 301 nurses working in p.blic and p.ivate hosp.tals in Greece.A moderate level of burnout was found among the Greek nurses(mean=29.95,±4.75).Regarding satisfaction and concern about information,p.E,and safety for COVID-19,nurses exp.essed overall low satisfaction with a mean score of 1.96(±0.77),and high levels of concern with a mean score of 3.19(±0.85).Increased satisfaction regarding the information p.ovided was significantly associated with decreased levels of burnout(β=-1.32,p.0.001),and increased concern for COVID-19 was significantly associated with increased levels of burnout(β=0.83,p.0.010).Conclusions:Greek nurses exp.essed low satisfaction concerning information,p.E,and safety for COVID-19 and high levels of concern of p.ssible COVID-19 ***,a moderate level of burnout was found.
