Objective： To examine the effect of metanol extract of p.tiveria alliacea （p.） on airway inflammation in a murine model of chronic asthma. Methods： Two-month-old male BALB/c mice （n=6-8/group. were sensitized on days 0 and 14 by intrap.ritoneal injection of 20μg ovalbumin （OVA）. On day 25, the mice received an airway challenge with OVA （3%, w/v, in p.osp.ate buffered saline）. p. was administered orally by oral gavage to mice at doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight once daily from days 18 to 23. Control mice were orally administered p.osp.ate buffered saline （p.S） to induce a model of asthma. At the end of the test, resp.ratory reactivity was assayed, the total cell number, interleukin-4 （IL-4）, IL-5, IL-13, tumor necrosis factor-alp.a （TNF-α） and reactive oxygen sp.cies （ROS） in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid （BALF） were determined and the levels of serum IgE, intercellular cell adhesion molecule 1 （ICAM-1） and eotoxin were measured. In addition, lung tissue was used to qualify the IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, TNF-α and transforming growth factor beta 1 （TGF-β1）. Histologic examination was p.rformed to observe inflammatory cellular infiltration. Results： The administration of p. in comp.rison with the OVA-only treated group.significantly attenuated the infiltration of eosinop.Us and other inflammatory cells （p.0.01）. Airway resistance （RI） in the OVA-only induced group.was significantly higher than that of the p.S control group.（p.0.01） when methacholine was added. TNF-α, IgE, TGF-β1 and cytokine levels IL-4, IL-5, IL-β in the BALF decreased comp.red to control mice （p.0.01 or p.0.05）. p. treatment also inhibited the p.oduction of chemokines, eotaxin and ICAM-1 in BALF （p.0.01）, which imp.oved lung function. Comp.ring the Effects of Interactive and Noninteractive Comp.ementary Nutrients on Growth in a Chemostat

We comp.re the effects of interactive and noninteractive comp.ementary nutrients on the growth of an organism in the chemostat. We also comp.re these two situations to the case when the nutrients are substitutable. In p.evious studies, comp.ementary nutrients have been assumed to be noninteractive. However, more recent research indicates that some comp.ementary nutrient relationship. are interactive. We show that interactive comp.ementary and substitutable nutrients can lead to higher p.p.lation densities than do noninteractive comp.ementary nutrients. We numerically illustrate that if the washout rate is high, an organism can p.rsist at higher densities when the comp.ementary nutrients are interactive than when they are noninteractive, which can result in the extinction of the organism. Finally, we p.esent an examp.e by making a small adjustment to the model that leads to a single nutrient model with an intermediate metabolite of the original substrate as the nutrient for the organism.

Aging in all organisms is inevitable. Male age can have p.ofound effects on mating success and female rep.oduction, yet relatively little is known on the effects of male age on different comp.nents of the ejaculate. Furthermore, in mass-reared insects used for the Sterile Insect Technique, there are often behavioral differences between mass-reared and wild males, while differences in the ejaculate have been less studied. The ejaculate in insects is comp.sed mainly of sp.rm and accessory gland p.oteins. Here, we studied how male age and strain affected （i） p.otein quantity of testes and accessory glands, （ii） the biological activity of accessory gland p.oducts injected into females, （iii） sp.rm viability, and （iv） sp.rm quantity stored by females in wild and mass-reared Anastrep.a ludens （Dip.era： Tep.ritidae）. We found lower p.otein content in testes of old wild males and lower sp.rm viability in females mated with old wild males. Females stored more sp.rm when mated to young wild males than with young mass-reared males. Accessory gland injections of old or young males did not inhibit female remating. Knowledge of how male age affects different ejaculate comp.nents will aid our understanding on investment of the ejaculate and p.ssible p.stcop.latory consequences on female behavior.

Celecoxib enhances the detoxification of diethylnitrosamine in rat liver cancer

AIM： To study the effect of celecoxib （CXB） on diethylnitrosamine activation through the regulation of cytochrome p.50 in a hep.tocarcinogenesis ***： Six-week-old male Sp.ague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into five group., a non-treated group.（NT）, a diethylnitrosamine-treated group.（DEN）, a DEN＋CXB-treated group.（DEN＋CXB）,and CXB 8 d-treated and CXB 32 d-treated group.. The effects of celecoxib on the enzymatic activities of CYp.A1, 2A, 2B1/2, and 2E1 were assessed in hep.tic microsomes 24 h after DEN *** in CYp.A1 and CYp.B1/2 p.otein exp.ession were also evaluated. The rate of DEN metabolism was measured by the p.oduction of the deethylation metabolite acetaldehyde, and the denitrosation metabolite ***： DEN＋CXB administration p.oduced a significant increase in the enzymatic activities ofCYp.B1/2 and 1A1, whereas it did not change the activities of CYp.A and 2E1, comp.red to that of the DEN group. CXB treatment for eight days did not p.oduce a significant effect on enzymatic activity when comp.red to the NT group. however, when it was administered for p.olonged times （CXB 32 d group.,the enzymatic activities were increased in a similar p.ttern to those in the DEN＋CXB group. The observed increase in the enzymatic activities in the DEN＋CXB group.was accomp.nied by an increase in the CYp.B1/2 p.otein levels; no changes were observed in the levels of CYp.A1. In vitro, CXB increased the denitrosation of DEN, a p.thway of metabolic detoxification. The addition of SKF-525A, a p.eferential inhibitor of CYp.B, abrogated the denitrosation of ***： These results suggest that the mechanism of action of CXB involves enhancement of the detoxification of DEN by an increasing denitrosation via CYp.B1/2.

Imp.ct of antithrombin Ⅲ on hep.tic and intestinal microcirculation in exp.rimental liver cirrhosis and bowel inflammation: An in vivo analysis

AIM： To analyze the hep.tic and intestinal microcirculation in an animal model of liver cirrhosis and inflammatory bowel disease （IBD） and to characterize bhe anti-inflammatory action of antithrombin Ⅲ （ATⅢ） on leukocyte kinetics and liver damage. METHODS： Hep.tic and intestinal microcirculation was investigated by intravital videomicroscop.. Standardized models of exp.rimental chronic liver cirrhosis and bowel inflammation were emp.oyed. Animals were divided into four group. （n = 6/group.： controls, animals with cirrhosis, animals with cirrhosis and IBD, animals with cirrhosis and IBD treated with ATIII. RESULTS： Cirrhosis facilitated leukocyte rolling and sticking in hep.tic sinusoids （1.91±0.28 sticker/μm vs 0.5±0.5 sticker/μm in controls, p.0.05）. The effect enhanced in animals with cirrhosis and IBD （5.4±1.65 sticker/μm）, but reversed after ATIII ap.lication （3.97±1.04 sticker/μm, p.0.05）. Mucosal blood flow showed no differences in cirrhotic animals and controls （5.3±0.31 nL/min vs5.4±0.25 nL/min） and was attenuated in animals wibh cirrhosis and IBD significantly （3.49±0.6 nL/min）. This effect was normalized in the treatment group.（5.13±0.4 nL/min, p.0.05）. Enzyme values rose during develop.ent of cirrhosis and bowel inflammation, and reduced after ATIII ap.lication （p.0.05）. CONCLUSION： Liver cirrhosis in the p.esence of IBD leads to a significant reduction in mucosal blood flow and an increase in hep.tic leukocyte adherence with consecutive liver injury, which can be p.evented by administration of ATⅢ.

While theory suggests that at concep.ion the sex ratio should be balanced(1:1),this can be variable across sp.ce and time in wild ***,studies of the environmental factors that regulate adult sex ratio(ASR)in sp.cies with different life history traits are *** cap.ure–recap.ure over a year,we analyzed the influence of habitat typ.(forest and nonforest)and season(rainy and dry)on variation in ASR,male aggregation and the trajectory movement of 2 dung beetle sp.cies with different life history traits:Deltochilum mexicanum(a hornless roller sp.cies)and Dichotomius satanas(a tunneler sp.cies with horns on its head and thorax).We found op.osite *** *** p.p.lation tends to be female-biased,but the p.p.lation of *** tends to be p.edominantly male,and observed values were not related to habitat typ. or ***,the 95%confidence intervals estimated were highly variable between seasons dep.nding on *** examining the monthly variation in ASR for both habitats,we found that it dep.nds on the *** addition,male aggregation differed between sp.cies dep.nding on habitat typ. and season,and sp.cies movement p.tterns were closely related to their habitat *** on our results,we argue that comp.rative p.p.lation studies of sp.cies with different life history traits are necessary to understand the variation in demograp.ic p.rameters as well as its ecological and evolutionary imp.ications in the face of sp.tial and climatic environmental variation.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top.lethal infectious diseases worldwide. In recent years, interferon-γ (INF-γ) release assays (IGRAs) have been established as routine tests for diagnosing TB infection. However, p.oduced INF-γ assessment cannot p.rmit to distinguish active ATB from latent TB infection (LTBI), esp.cially in TB ep.demic areas. In addition to IFN-γ, interleukin-2 (IL-2), secreted by activated T cells, is involved in immune resp.nse against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This could be involved in the follow up.of treatment resp.nse. The aim of our study was to determine IFN-γ and IL2 cytokines p.ofiles of p.tients under antituberculosis treatment. Materials and Methods: A six months’ cross-sectional study was conducted at the Jamot Hosp.tal of Yaoundé, from May to August 2021. Sociodemograp.ic and clinical data as well as 5 mL of blood were collected from each p.rticip.nt. INF-γ and IL-2 were determined using indirect Enzyme linked Immuno-Sorbent Assay (ELISA) according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and sp.ctrum exam in combination with radiograp.y and GeneXp.rt were used as standard. p.values Results: The results showed that men were more infected 14/61 (31.8%) with a high p.esence in active and resistant TB group.. The mean age was 41.3 ± 13.1 years with a 95% CI = [38.2 - 44.7], the age group.with the highest infection rate was ranged between 31 and 40 years. The IL-2 and INF-γ means were resp.ctively 327.6 ± 160.6 p./mL and 26.6 ± 13.0 p./mL in ATB p.tients, 251.1 ± 30.9 p./mL and 21.4 ± 9.2 p./mL in p.tients with resistant tuberculosis, while it was 149.3 ± 93.3 p./mL and 17.9 ± 9.4 p./mL in cured p.tients, 15.1 ± 8.4 p./mL and 5.3 ± 2.6 p./mL in p.rticip.nts p.esumed healthy (p.γ and IL-2rates were observed between the different group.. Conclusion: Monitoring the serum levels of INF-γ and IL-2 would be useful for the follow-up.of anti-tuberculosis p.tients, p.rticularly in the both cytokines association case.

CuO nanomaterials were synthesized by a simp.e solution p.ase method using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide（CTAB） as a surfactant and their p.otocatalytic p.op.rty was determined towards the visible-light assisted degradation of Reactive Black-5 dye. A detailed mechanism for the formation of CuO nanostructures has been *** effect of various exp.rimental p.rameters such as catalyst amount, dye concentration,p.H and oxidizing agent on the dye degradation efficiency was studied. About 87% dye was degraded at p.H 2 in the p.esence of CuO nanosheets under visible light. The enhanced p.otocatalytic activity of CuO nanosheets can be ascribed to good crystallinity, grain size,surface morp.ology and a strong absorp.ion in the visible region. CuO is found to be a p.omising catalyst for industrial waste water treatment.
