Chronic kidney disease(CKD)and chronic periodontitis(CP)are prevalent conditions which significantly impact public health *** diseases share inflammatory and oxidative stress mechanisms,an indication of a likely bidirectional *** editorial explored the association between CKD and CP by highlighting common inflammatory mechanisms and recent research findings that address this *** reviews of recent studies,we discussed how periodontal bacteria may activate systemic immune responses that affect both periodontal and renal ***,meta-analysis data indicated an increased risk of CKD development in patients with CP,and vice *** results suggest the need for more rigorous research in the future in order to address the confounding factors and evaluate specific periodontal health interventions and their direct effects on kidney *** emphasized the importance of comprehensive and multidisciplinary care for the improvement of the overall health of patients affected by CP and CKD.

Swimming Performance: A Strategy to Evaluate Motor Dysfunction after Brain Ischemia in Mice

We have previously reported that sequential common artery sectioning (SCAS) in mice produces a reproducible pattern of mortality, extensive brain damage and a wide range of measurable neurobehavioral alterations that include motor incoordination and forelimb flexion. The present study describes a comprehensive method to assess motor functional outcome after brain ischemia produced by SCAS using swimming behavior. We found that after the second artery occlusion the time for completion of the swimming task significantly increased and the swimming pattern alterations observed in the ischemic mice showed no evidence of recovery (up to 96 h). We view the swimming performance strategy described here as a sensitive, simple and economic procedure to assess motor performance after brain ischemia.

Value Chain of the Festival Internacional Cervantino

The purpose of the research was to investigate the value chain of the Festival Internacional Cervantino (VC-FIC) as a cultural and tourist industry, and to identify the key links of the chain. The value chain concerns the business activities that generate wealth and offer services to customers. This qualitative case study focuses on formal and informal documents regarding FIC that determined that the FIC tourist and cultural industries are disarticulated. A qualitative perspective allowed us to identify the links existing between formal and informal instances regarding social and economic aspects, as well as its processes and unofficial activities. It can be shown that the value chain of the festival is in the link of the patrimony in the tangible and intangible cultural field and it is formed by seven links that should unite both industries including the following elements: cultural market, government and services, pre-production, lodging, production, events, food, and souvenirs.

Activity of Secondary Bacterial Metabolites in the Control of Citrus Canker

This study investigated the protective effects of secondary bacterial metabolites, produced by Pseudomonas sp. (bacterium strain Ln), on citrus canker disease caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri (Xac 306). The Ln bacteria strain was cultured in liquid medium and the supernatant free-cells was treated with methanol (AMF) and ethyl acetate (AEF), respectively, and then the extract was concentrated, filtrated, lyophilized and fractionated by vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC). After VLC, eight fractions were obtained. All fractions’ activity against Xac 306 by agar well diffusion assay and minimum inhibitory concentration but in different concentrationswere tested. Cytotoxicity effects were observed in all fractions in 50 μg·mL-1 concentration. The comet assay demonstrated that the fractions EAF, VLC2 and VLC3 presented no genotoxic effects at tested concentrations. In plants only VLC3 showed significant results (png the incidence of citrus canker lesions.
