Occurrence of human pathogenic viruses in drinking water and in its sources:A review

Since many waterborne diseases are caused by human pathogenic viruses,virus monitoring of drinking water(DW)and DW sources is crucial for public ***,the aim of this review was to describe the occurrence of human pathogenic viruses in DW and DW sources;the occurrence of two viruses proposed as novel indicators of human faecal contamination(Peppermild mottle virus and Tobacco mosaic virus)was also *** research was focused on articles that assessed viral occurrence using molecular methods in the surface water used for DW production(SW-D),groundwater used for DW production(GW-D),DW and bottled-DW(BW).A total of 1544 studies published in the last 10 years were analysed,and 79 were ultimately *** considering the detection methods,filtration is the most common concentration technique,while quantitative polymerase chain reaction is the most common quantification *** virus occurrence in SW-D,GW-D,and DW,high percentages of positive samples were reported for adenovirus,polyomavirus and Pepper mild mottle *** genomes were frequently detected in SW-D and rarely in GW-D,suggesting that GW-D may be a safe DW *** genomes were also detected in DW,posing a possible threat to human *** lowest percentages of positive samples were found in Europe,while the highest were found in Asia and South *** three articles assessed viral occurrence in *** review highlights the lack of method standardization and the need for legislation updates.

Nutritional quality of Drosophila melanogaster as factitious prey for rearing the predatory bug Orius majusculus

The predatory bug,Orius majusculus(Reuter),is an important predator of thrips commercially produced for augmentative releases using the eggs of the Mediterranea n flour moth Ephestia kuehniella(Zeller).In this study,we assessed the potential for using frozen adults of fruit flies,Drosophila melanogaster(Meigen),either as nymphal rearing diet or as diet throughout the entire *** compared life-hi story traits and reproduction of predators when fed *** with high lipid body content(lipid-rich)and with high protein body content(protein-rich),using a diet of 100%*** eggs as *** also analyzed the biochemical composition of both prey and predator in order to assess the nutritional quality of each diet,which partially explained the adequacy of the different diets for *** were significant differences between predators fed the two types of ***,with the protein-rich flies as diet providing the best results in terms of mortality and ***,we show that while feeding *** throughout their development with *** increases mortality and reduces reproduction,protein-rich *** can be used as nymphal diet with minimal reduction in reproductivity and minimal increase in mortality.

Safety assessment of the 62 m high Sance Rockfill Dam based on long-term monitoring results and their simulation by numerical models is presented in the *** large settlements and horizontal movements of the crest together with the steep downstream slope questioned the safety of the *** 2D and 3D models fitting the monitoring results were applied for the safety assessment of the dam including slope stability analysis and estimation of the clay core cracking and hydraulic fracturing *** modeling results contributed to the rehabilitation concept and project of the dam.

Using NWP to Assess the Influence of the Arctic Atmosphere on Midlatitude Weather and Climate

The influence of the Arctic atmosphere on Northern Hemisphere midlatitude tropospheric weather and climate is explored by comparing the skill of two sets of 14-day weather forecast experiments using the ECMWF model with and without relaxation of the Arctic atmosphere towards ERA-Interim reanalysis data during the integration. Two pathways are identified along which the Arctic influences midlatitude weather: a pronounced one over Asia and Eastern Europe, and a secondary one over North America. In general, linkages are found to be strongest(weakest) during boreal winter(summer) when the amplitude of stationary planetary waves over the Northern Hemisphere is strongest(weakest). No discernible Arctic impact is found over the North Atlantic and North Pacific region, which is consistent with predominantly southwesterly flow. An analysis of the flow-dependence of the linkages shows that anomalous northerly flow conditions increase the Arctic influence on midlatitude weather over the continents. Specifically, an anomalous northerly flow from the Kara Sea towards West Asia leads to cold surface temperature anomalies not only over West Asia but also over Eastern and Central Europe. Finally, the results of this study are discussed in the light of potential midlatitude benefits of improved Arctic prediction capabilities.

Sensitivity of polyphagous(Plodia interpunctella)and stenophagous(Ephestia kuehniella)storage moths to residual insecticides:effect of formulation and larval age

Pyralid moths,Ephestia kuehniella and Plodia interpunctella,are prevalent stored product *** insecticides are the main tool to control these moths in the *** data describing the response of these moths to insecticides are *** lethal effect of the organophosphate,pyrethroid,and halogenated-pyrrole on moths larvae were compared in laboratory *** hypothesis was that the very polyphagous ***-punctella would have generally higher insecticide tolerance than that of the stenophagous *** insecticide concentrations were applied onto the inner surface of glass tube *** larvae of 14 or 21 d old of *** and 7 or 14 d old of *** were used by *** larval mortality was checked after 24 h of *** mortality was significantly influenced by age of larvae and the groups of *** differences among the efficacies of the tested formulations with identical active compounds were found,except significant different mortality of *** on deltamethrin formulations.A comparison of analytical standards showed that *** was less susceptible to the active ingredient pirimiphos-methyl than ***,while *** was less susceptible to deltamethrin than *** differences between the two species were observed for *** therefore rejected the hypothesis that polyphagy/stenophagy can be a general predictor of insecticide tolerance in the two tested storage *** most important finding for effective use was that the young larvae of both species were more susceptible to tested insecticides than older larvae.

New insights for the catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane to K-A oil

Au-based catalysts have been reported to be active in the cyclohexane oxidation to K-A oil, but they showed some limitiations in terms of productivity, selectivity and required reaction conditions. The possibility to overcome some of these limits has been explored coupling Au with Cu, which can be suitable for undergoing the electron-switch in the initial step of the cyclohexane oxidation. Hence, a bimetallic 2 wt% Au Cu/Al_(2)O_(3) catalyst was tested in the oxidation of cyclohexane, working at mild conditions of 120 ℃ and 4 bar of O_(2). The combination of the catalyst with a very small amount of benzaldehyde used as cheaper and non-toxic radical initiator allowed to obtain a very high productivity of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone(45 mmol*m L/mgmet*h) with a selectivity of 94%. Moreover, comparing the catalysed reaction with the non-catalysed one, the role of the catalyst has been disclosed.

Cluster-Based Distributed Algorithms for Very Large Linear Equations

In many applications such as computational fluid dynamics and weather prediction, as well as image processing and state of Markov chain etc., the grade of matrix n is often very large, and any serial algorithm cannot solve the problems. A distributed cluster-based solution for very large linear equations is discussed, it includes the definitions of notations, partition of matrix, communication mechanism, and a master-slaver algorithm etc., the computing cost is O（n^3/N）, the memory cost is O（n^2/N）, the I/O cost is O（n^2/N）, and the com- munication cost is O（Nn ）, here, N is the number of computing nodes or processes. Some tests show that the solution could solve the double type of matrix under 10^6 × 10^6 effectively.

Rock temperature variability in high-altitude rockfall-prone areas

In a context of cryosphere degradation caused by climate warming,rock temperature is one of the main driving factors of rockfalls that occur on high-elevation mountain *** order to improve the knowledge of this critical relationship,it is necessary to increase measurement capability of rock temperature and its variability in different lithological and slope/aspect conditions,and also to increase local scale studies,increasing the quality and the comparability of the *** paper shows an example of metrological characterization of sensors used for rock temperature measurement in mountain regions,by means of the measurement *** such approach,data and results from temperature measurements carried out in the Bessanese high-elevation experimental site(Western European Alps)are *** procedures for the calibration and field characterization of sensors allow to measure temperature in different locations,depths and lithotypes,within 0.10°C of overall *** work has highlighted that metrological traceability is fundamental to asses data quality and establish comparability among different measurements;that there are strong differences between air temperature and near-surface rock temperature;and that there are significant differences of rock temperature acquired in different aspect ***,solar radiation,slope/aspect conditions and lithotype,seem to be the main driving factors of rock temperature.
