From its commissioning in 2006 to the present,the Spanish Control Centre for Renewable Energies(CECRE)has been a worldwide pioneer and reference centre in the integration of renewable energies in the electrical system.In the last 15 years,CECRE has allowed a high penetration of renewable energies in Spanish electrical system by means of the supervision and control of renewable facilities,while ensuring the power supply security.This paper defines the bases of renewable en-ergy operation in CECRE and introduces forecasting systems for renewable energies.Furthermore,this paper describes the participation of renewable energies in balancing services and congestion management.Finally,new challenges for Spanish transmission system operator(TSO)are presented for the integration of renewable energies along with the energy transition and decarbonization.

Background Over the last two decades,umbilical cord blood(UCB)and haploidentical transplantation(HaploHSCT)have emerged as alternative sources of hematopoietic stem cell for allogeneic transplantation.There are few retrospective studies and no prospective studies comparing both types of alternative transplantation in pediatric patients.Results We analyzed the data of 134 children with hematological malignancies who received a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from a single umbilical cord blood(UCB)(n=42)or an"tex-vivo"T-cell depleted transplant from a haploi-dentical-related donor(HaploHSCT)(n=92)between 1996 and 2014.Hematological recovery was faster after HaploHSCT than the UCB transplant group(median times to neutrophil and platelet recovery:13 vs.16 days,10 vs.57 days,respectively)(P<0.001).The HaploHSCT group had a significantly early immune reconstitution based on NK and CD8+T cells compared with the UCB group.However,after the first year post-transplantation.HaploHSCT had a lower number of CD4+ T and B lymphocytes compared with the UCB transplant recipients.The cumulative incidence of TRM was 29±8%in the HaploHSCT group versus 40±5%in the UCB group.Relapse incidence was 21±7%in the HaploHSCT group and 19±8%in the UCB group.Probability of DFS was 58±8%in the HaploHSCT group versus 40±9%in the UCB group(P=0.051).Conclusions TCD haploidentical transplant is associated with advantages in terms of engraftment and early immune reconstitution kinetics.TCD haploidentical transplant was associated with lower incidence of infectious and non-infectious complications,especially in the early phases of the transplant compared with UCB transplant recipients.However,there are no advantages in transplant outcomes compared with UCB transplant.

Background In recent years,a growing number of stents and stent-like devices have become available to facilitate the treatment of challenging aneurysms.However,the need for dual antiplatelet therapy can limit their use,especially in ruptured aneurysms.The hydrophilic polymer coating(pHPC,phenox)is a novel glycan-based multilayer polymer that reduces platelet adhesion.This study aims to report our initial experience using the pCONUS HPC device for the treatment of unruptured wide-necked bifurcation aneurysms(WNBA)using acetylsalicylic acid(ASA)as single antiplatelet therapy(SAPT).Methods We retrospectively identified all patients who were treated with the pCONUS HPC for unruptured WNBA in a multi-staged procedure using ASA as SAPT.Records were made of periprocedural complications,clinical outcome and angiographic and clinical follow-up.Results We identified 15 patients with 15 WNBA.The average age was 69 years old(range,41-76).Seven aneurysms were located in the middle cerebral artery,five in the anterior communicating artery,two at the basilar tip and one in the posterior communicating artery.Immediate post-treatment angiography showed five aneurysms with modified Raymond-Roy classification(mRRC)grade Ⅰ and four aneurysms with mRRC grade Ⅱ.There were no haemorrhagic complications.Four patients developed thrombus formation during the second treatment session,all of them completely resolving after administration of glycoprotein Ⅱb/Ⅲa antagonists.Angiographic follow-up data were available for 10 patients and showed adequate occlusion(mRRC Ⅰ or Ⅱ)in eight aneurysms(80%).In-stent stenosis was observed in one patient whereas two patients showed de novo stenosis in one of the efferent branches.Conclusions This early experience on the use of the pCONUS HPC device suggests that it can be useful for treating unruptured WNBA under ASA as SAPT.Further investigation with a randomised treatment registry and larger cohort is needed.

The biosynthesis of isoprenoids in plant cells occurs from precursors produced in the cytosol by the mevalonate （MVA） pathway and in the plastid by the methylerythritol 4-phosphate （MEP） pathway, but little is known about the mechanisms coordinating both pathways. Evidence of the importance of sugar signaling for such coordination in Arabi- dopsis thaliana is provided here by the characterization of a mutant showing an increased accumulation of MEP-derived isoprenoid products （chlorophylls and carotenoids） without changes in the levels of relevant MEP pathway transcripts, proteins, or enzyme activities. This mutant was found to be a new loss-of-function allele of PRL1 （Pleiotropic Regulatory Locus 1）, a gene encoding a conserved WD-protein that functions as a global regulator of sugar, stress, and hormone responses, in part by inhibition of SNFl-related protein kinases （SnRK1）. Consistent with the reported role of SnRK1 kinases in the phosphorylation and inactivation of the main regulatory enzyme of the MVA pathway （hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme-A reductase）, its activity but not transcript or protein levels was reduced in prll seedlings. However, the accumulation of MVA-derived end products （sterols） was unaltered in mutant seedlings. Sucrose supplementation to wild- type seedlings phenocopied the prll mutation in terms of isoprenoid metabolism, suggesting that the observed isoprenoid phenotypes result from the increased sugar accumulation in the prll mutant. In summary, PRL1 appears to coordinate isoprenoid metabolism with sugar, hormone, and stress responses.

BACKGROUND The development of precision medicine is essential for personalized treatment and improved clinical outcome,whereas biomarkers are critical for the success of precision therapies.AIM To investigate whether iCEMIGE(integration of CEll-morphometrics,MIcro-biome,and GEne biomarker signatures)improves risk stratification of breast cancer(BC)patients.METHODS We used our recently developed machine learning technique to identify cellular morphometric biomarkers(CMBs)from the whole histological slide images in The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)breast cancer(TCGA-BRCA)cohort.Multivariate Cox regression was used to assess whether cell-morphometrics prognosis score(CMPS)and our previously reported 12-gene expression prognosis score(GEPS)and 15-microbe abundance prognosis score(MAPS)were independent prognostic factors.iCEMIGE was built upon the sparse representation learning technique.The iCEMIGE scoring model performance was measured by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve compared to CMPS,GEPS,or MAPS alone.Nomogram models were created to predict overall survival(OS)and progress-free survival(PFS)rates at 5-and 10-year in the TCGA-BRCA cohort.RESULTS We identified 39 CMBs that were used to create a CMPS system in BCs.CMPS,GEPS,and MAPS were found to be significantly independently associated with OS.We then established an iCEMIGE scoring system for risk stratification of BC patients.The iGEMIGE score has a significant prognostic value for OS and PFS independent of clinical factors(age,stage,and estrogen and progesterone receptor status)and PAM50-based molecular subtype.Importantly,the iCEMIGE score significantly increased the power to predict OS and PFS compared to CMPS,GEPS,or MAPS alone.CONCLUSION Our study demonstrates a novel and generic artificial intelligence framework for multimodal data integration toward improving prognosis risk stratification of BC patients,which can be extended to other types of cancer.

Dear Editor,In the European region,which shares 22.8%of the global cancer burden for 10%of the global population,there were around 4.4 million new cancer cases and 1.9 million deaths from cancer in 2020[1].The reasons for the high cancer incidence rates are complex;however,diet and dietary components are among the main contributors to cancer risk[2].In modern-day living,a growing proportion of people include in their diets ultra-processed foods.Byproducts of food processing and home-prepared foods are so-called dietary advanced glycation endproducts(AGEs),which are reactive metabolites emerging during the breakdown of reducing sugar.AGEs production is preponderant in dry high-heat processes(e.g.,baking,roasting);hence foods such as cakes,crisps,crackers,cereal products,meat and meat-derived products represent a major source of dietary AGEs[3].

Susceptibility to pneumococcal infections in Sj?gren syndrome (SS)―an autoimmune inflammatory disease―patients is not well known, although these patients frequently develop respiratory diseases. The relative risk of developing pneumococcal disease in SS patients versus diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM-2) patients, matched by age, gender, and length of enrolment was studied. From January 1998 to September 2013 the records of Donostia University Hospital were analyzed, which among other patient’s data includes: number and type of hospital admissions and number and type of laboratory determinations. Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates of the same serotype causing recurrent infections were characterized by PFGE. The study comprised 127 patients in the SS group (69 primary and 58 secondary) and 127 in the DM-2 group as control. In 12 SS patients, (9.4%) 22 pneumococcal disease episodes were detected. Two patients (1.6%) with a single episode each one were observed among DM-2 patients, p = 0.01, RR for SS patients 6 (95% CI 1.4 to 26.3). No differences could be demonstrated between the two groups of patients in infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus agalactiae. Most pneumococcal serotypes in SS patients belonged to the 13-valent (50%) and 23-valent (75%) anti-pneumococcal vaccine. SS patients are associated with and increased risk of suffering from pneumococcal disease. Vaccination should be considered in this group of patients.
