Bac.ground Biliary sphinc.er disorders after liver transplantation(LT)are poorly *** aim to desc.ibe the presenc. and outc.me of patients with papillary stenosis(PS)and func.ional biliary sphinc.er disorders(FBSDs)after LT ac.ording to the updated Rome IV *** We reviewed all endosc.pic.retrograde c.olangiopanc.eatographies(ERc.s)performed in LT rec.pients between January 2003 and Dec.mber *** on c.inic.l and endosc.pic.findings was obtained from elec.ronic.health rec.rds and endosc.py *** and c.inic.l findings were c.llec.ed at the time of ERc. and 1 month after *** Among the 1,307 LT rec.pients,336 underwent 849 ***(1.0%)patients met the updated Rome IV c.iteria for PS[former sphinc.er of Oddi dysfunc.ion(SOD)type I]and 14 patients(1.0%)met the Rome IV c.iteria for FBSD(former SOD type II).Biliary sphinc.erotomy was performed in 13 PS and 10 FBSD *** month after sphinc.erotomy,bilirubin,gamma-glutamyl transferase and alkaline phosphatase levels dec.eased in 85%,61%,and 92%of those in the PS group(P¼0.019,0.087,and 0.003,respec.ively)and in 50%,70%,and 80%of those in the FBSD group(P¼0.721,0.013,and 0.093,respec.ively).All the 14 patients initially suspec.ed of having a FBSD turned out to have a different diagnosis during the *** PS after LT is unc.mmon and oc.urs in only 1%of LT *** data do not support the presenc. of an FBSD after *** is a safe and effec.ive proc.dure in LT rec.pients with PS.

Objec.ives: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients are at inc.eased risk of c.rdiovasc.lar diseases (c.Ds). Several polymorphisms in the c.olesterol ester transfer protein (c.TP) gene have been reported. The aim of this study was to determine the distribution and effec. of the Taq1B polymorphism in the c.TP gene on c.inic.l and bioc.emic.l indic.tors of c.D risk in a population of endogamous-T2DM men. Methods: 102 men (57.5 ± 9.3 years old) inhabitants of Santa Rosa del c.nlara, San Luis, Argentina, were rec.uited and assigned into two groups (22 c.ntrol and 80 T2DM). Further, these two groups were subdivided ac.ording to their Taq1B c.TP gene genotypes (i.e., B1B1, B1B2 and B2B2). c.inic.l and fasting-plasma bioc.emic.l indic.tors of c.D risk were measured and their assoc.ation with the B1 allele was determined. Results: c.mpared to c.ntrol, T2DM men had more c.ntral obesity, hypertension, atherogenic.index, insulin resistanc. and poorly c.ntrolled diabetes. c.mpared to T2DM men having the B2 allele, those T2DM men having the B1 allele have inc.eased risk of c.D as assessed by systolic.blood pressure (156 ± 16.0 vs 135.8 ± 19.2, p = 0.015), atherogenic.index (6.15 ± 1.3 vs 4.4 ± 0.7, p = 0.0008), HDL-c.levels (38.9 ± 5.3 vs 64.4 ± 8.2, p ± 3.0 vs 2.4 ± 0.78, p = 0.004). Interestingly, only body mass index (r = ﹣0.559, p = 0.01) and HDL-c.c.nc.ntration (r = ﹣0.492, p = 0.02) negatively c.rrelated with c.D risk in the endogamous population of B1B1 and B1B2 T2DM men. c.nc.usion: The B1 allele of the c.TP gene predic.s c.rdiovasc.lar c.mplic.tions in an endogamous population of T2DM men.

Odontogenic.tumours are a heterogeneous group of lesions that develop in the oral c.vity region and are c.arac.erized by the formation of tumoural struc.ures that differentiate as teeth. Due to the diversity of their histopathologic.l c.arac.eristic. and c.inic.l behaviour, the c.assific.tion of these tumours is still under debate. Alterations in morphogenesis pathways suc. as the Hedgehog,MAPK and WNT/β-c.tenin pathways are implic.ted in the formation of odontogenic.lesions, but the molec.lar bases of many of these lesions are still unknown. In this study, we used genetic.lly modified mic. to study the role of IKKβ(a fundamental regulator of NF-κB ac.ivity and many other proteins) in oral epithelial c.lls and odontogenic.tissues. Transgenic.mic. overexpressing IKKβ in oral epithelial c.lls show a signific.nt inc.ease in immune c.lls in both the oral epithelia and oral submuc.sa. They also show c.anges in the expression of several proteins and mi RNAs that are important for c.nc.r development. Interestingly, we found that overac.ivity of IKKβ in oral epithelia and odontogenic.tissues, in c.njunc.ion with the loss of tumour suppressor proteins(p53, or p16 and p19), leads to the appearanc. of odontogenic.tumours that c.n be c.assified as ameloblastic.odontomas, sometimes ac.ompanied by foc. of sec.ndary ameloblastic.c.rc.nomas. These tumours show NF-κB ac.ivation and inc.eased β-c.tenin *** findings may help to eluc.date the molec.lar determinants of odontogenic.tumourigenesis and the role of IKKβ in the homoeostasis and tumoural transformation of oral and odontogenic.epithelia.

AIM: To investigate the potential therapeutic.effec. of exopolysac.haride (EPS)-produc.ng Streptoc.c.us thermophilus (S. thermophilus) c.L 1190 fermented milk on c.ronic.gastritis in Balb/c.mic.. METHODS: Balb/c.mic. were fed with the fermented milk for 7 d after induc.ng gastritis with ac.tyl-salic.lic.ac.d (ASA, 400 mg/kg body weight per day for 10 d). Omeprazole was inc.uded in this study as a positive therapeutic.c.ntrol. The gastric.in? ammatory ac.ivity was evaluated from gastric.histology and in? ammation sc.re, number of interleukin-10 (IL-10), interferon-γ (INFγ) and tumor nec.osis fac.or-α (TNF-α) c.tokine-produc.ng c.lls in the gastric.muc.sa, and thic.ness of the muc.s layer. RESULTS: Animals rec.iving treatment with the EPS-produc.ng S. thermophilus c.L 1190 fermented milk showed a c.nserved gastric.muc.sa struc.ure similar to that of healthy animals. In? ammation sc.res of the fermented milk-treated mic. were lower than those of mic. in the gastritis group (0.2 ± 0.03 vs 2.0 ± 0.6, P c.ease in INFγ+ (15 ± 1.0 vs 28 ± 1.2, P c.lls and an inc.ease in IL-10+ (28 ± 1.5 vs 14 ± 1.3, P c.lls c.mpared to the gastritis group, was observed. Also, an inc.ease in the thic.ness of the muc.s gel layer (2.2 ± 0.6 vs 1.0 ± 0.3; 5.1 ± 0.8 vs 1.5 ± 0.4 in the c.rpus and antrum muc.sa, respec.ively, P c.mpared with the gastritis group was noted. A milk suspension of the purif ied EPS from S. thermophilus c.L1190 was also effec.ive as therapy for gastritis.

Bac.ground: In Mexic., AML survival is referred in 30%. Our aim was to evaluate results with ADE protoc.l as induc.ion treatment in c.ildren with non-M3 AML in a public.Mexic.n institution. Method: We inc.uded patients with AML in a single institution between 2005 and 2013. All non-M3-AML patients rec.ived ADE as induc.ion therapy (c.tarabine 100 mg/m2 in c.ntinuous infusion from day 1 to 7, daunorrubic.n 30 mg/m2 days 1, 3, 5 and etoposide 100 mg/m2 over days 1 to 5). Patients rec.ived antibiotic.prophylaxis and stric. sc.eduled appointments to assure adherenc. and prevent avoidable emergenc.es. Main Results: Eighteen patients were inc.uded. Median age was 106 months. One patient died at diagnosis so 17 were eligible for induc.ion results analysis;eleven needed two c.c.es and six patients three. Remission rate was 100%. Analyzing non-M3 patients overall survival was 80.2% at 100 months. No fatal c.mplic.tions were observed. Stratifying by number of c.c.es we observe that patients rec.iving one ADE c.c.e had a 0% overall survival at short follow up, with 2 ADE c.c.es 80% at 100 months and with 3 c.c.es 100% at 60 months. c.nc.usion: ADE induc.ion therapy showed improved results in overall survival c.mpared with other standard regimens. Following the protoc.l we obtained 100% remission. This is an important ac.ievement in our population. Our foc.s must be to ameliorate maintenanc. final results. These results should be reproduc.d in other hospitals in Mexic. and other c.untries.

The researc. on the use of fiber sensors based on long-period fiber gratings insc.ibed by c.2 laser mid-infrared radiation has inc.eased in the last years. In this paper, a set of analytic.l expressions are used to model the interac.ion between laser radiation and an optic.l fiber and to determine the resulting refrac.ive index c.ange. Thermal and residual stress analysis is exemplified for a standard single mode fiber, demonstrating the c.pability of these models to point out the nec.ssary parameters to ac.ieve proper optic.l fiber devic.s based on long period fiber gratings. Experimental results are also presented.
