Although pharmaceuticals have beendetected in the environment only in the range from ng/L to μg/L, it has beendemonstrated that they can adversely affect the health status of aquatic organisms. Lysosomal membrane stability （Lms） has previously been applied as an indicator of cellularwell-being todetermine health status in bivalve mussels. the objective of this study is to evaluate Lms in Ruditapes philippinarum haemolymph using the neutral red retention assay （NRRA）. Clamswere exposed in laboratory conditions to caffeine （0.1, 5, 15, 50 μg/L）, ibuprofen （0.1, 5, 10, 50 μg/L）, carbamazepine and novobiocin （both at 0.1, 1, 10, 50 μg/L） for35days. Results show adose-dependent effect of the pharmaceuticals. the neutral red retention t.me measured at the end of the bioassaywas significantly reduced by 50% after exposure to environmental concentrations （p 〈 0.05）（caffeine = 15 μg/L; ibuprofen = 10 μg/L; carbamazepine = 1 μg/L and novobiocin = 1 μg/L）, compared to controls. Clams exposed to these pharmaceuticalswere considered to present adiminished health status （retention t.me 〈45 min）, significantlyworse than controls （96 min）（p 〈 0.05）. the predicted no environmental effect concentration （PNEC） results showed that these pharmaceuticals are very toxic at the environmental concentrations tested. measurement of the alteration of Lms has been found to be a sensitive technique that enables evaluation of the health status of clams after exposure to pharmaceuticals under laboratory conditions, thus representing a robust tier-1 screening biomarker.

We studied the effect of evolving from static in vitro digestion conditions towards the gradual addition of essential digestive compounds for lipid *** oil-in-water emulsions were considered:a low(5%w/w)and high(20%w/w)triolein-based emulsion with identical surfactant-to-oil ratio(0.2).Emulsions were subjected to in vitro static digestion conditions or gradual gastric lipase addition,gradual pancreatic lipase addition,and/or gradual bile salt *** these three latter cases,similar amounts of gastric/pancreatic lipase and/or bile salts were provided as in the static case,however divided over 4 doses added during the first 30 min of each digestive *** the low-lipid emulsion,gradually adding lipases and bile salts did not significantly affect lipolysis *** can be related to the sufficient amounts of digestive compounds present even in the smallest initial *** the high-lipid emulsion,the gradual addition of bile salts significantly reduced the lipolysis *** salts are essential to remove lipid digestion products from the interface and thus allow the continuation of the lipid digestion process at the ***,the lipolysis extent after 2 h of small intestinal phase was not significantly influenced by the digestion *** is again explained by the simple nature of the emulsions studied and the excess of lipase even in the smallest initial ***,this work showed that evolving towards more(semi-)dynamic digestion conditions can impact(lipid)digestion kinetics,even for relatively simple food compositions,and is of interest to obtain more physiological relevant digestion kinetics.

In the present work we develop an electrochemical assisted method to form nanopores on the surface of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite(HOPG),which was accomplished by a simple electrochemical route and a scalable nanomaterial,carbon nanodots,without applying high voltages,high t.mperatures or toxic *** electrodes are in a solution of N-enrich carbon nanodots in acidic media and the potential scans applied on HOPG lead to the formation of a spatially inhomogeneous porous *** diameter of the resulting nanopores can be tuned by controlling the number of electrochemical reduction *** resulting nanoporous surfaces are characterized by at.mic force microscopy,Raman spectroscopy,scanning electrochemical microscopy,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and *** nanoporous HOPG showed high *** the potential of these surfaces to the development of energy storage devices is demonstrated.

the creation of a quality Digital terrain model(Dtm)is essential for representing and analyzing the Earth in a digital *** continuous improvements in the acquisition and the potential of airborne Light Detection and Ranging(LiDAR)data are increasing the range of applications of this technique to the study of the Earth *** aim of this study was to determine the opt.mal parameters for calculating a Dtm by using an iterative algorit.m to select.minimum elevations from LiDAR data in a steep mountain area with shrub *** parameters were:input data type,analysis window size,and height *** effects of slope,point density,and vegetation on Dtm accuracy were also *** results showed that the lowest root.mean square error(RmsE)was obtained with an analysis window size of 10 m,5 m,and 2.5 m,rasterized data as input data,and height thresholds equal to or greater than 1.5 *** parameters showed a RmsE of 0.19 *** terrain slope varied from 010%to 5060%,the RmsE increased by 0.11 *** RmsE decreased by 0.06 m when point density was increased from 4 to 8 points/m2,and increased by 0.05 m in dense vegetation areas.

Relevance of liver fibrosis amongst diabetic patients with metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease(mAsLD)and knowledge gaps Insulin resistance is paramount in the crosstalk between intrahepatic and extrahepatic pathophysiological mechanisms leading to mAsLD(1),hence gaining special relevance in patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes(t2D).mAsLD is the term that was recently endorsed by an international multidisciplinary consensus panel to replace non-alcoholic fatty liver disease[as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NAsH)was replaced by metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis(mAsH)](2).

APRI as a predictor of early viral response in chronic hepatitis C patients

AIm:to evaluate the aspartate aminotransferase(Ast) to platelet ratio index(APRI) as a predictive factor of early viral response in chronic hepatitis C naive ***:We performed an ambispective case-control *** enrolled chronic hepatitis C naive patients who were evaluated to start therapy with PEGylated interferon α-2b(1.5 μg/kg per week) and ribavirin(>75 kg:1200mg and mg).Patients were allocated into two groups,group 1:Hepatitis C patients with early viral response(EVR),group 2:Patients without *** ratio(OR) and 95% confi dence interval(CI) were calculated to assess the relationship between each risk factor and the EVR in both ***:During the study,80 patients were analyzed,45 retrospectively and 35 *** mean ± sD age of our subjects was 42.9 ± 12 years;weight 70 kg(±11.19),Ast 64.6 IU/mL(±48.74),alanine aminotransferase(ALt) 76.3 IU/mL(±63.08) and platelets 209000 mill/mm3(±84 429).Fifty-five(68.8%) were genotype 1 and 25(31.3%) were genotype 2 or 3;the mean hepatitis C virus RNA viral load was 2 269 061 IU/mL(±7220266).In the univariate analysis,APRI was not associated with EVR [OR 0.61(95% CI 0.229-1.655,P=0.33)],and the absence of EVR was only associated with genotype 1 [OR 0.28(95% CI 0.08-0.94,P=0.034)].After adjustment in a logistic regression model,genotype 1 remains signifi ***:APRI was not a predictor of EVR in chronic hepatitis C;Genotype 1 was the only predictive factor associated with the absence of EVR in our patients.

An accurate simulation of air t.mperature at local scales is crucial for the vast.majority of weather and climate *** this work,a hybrid statistical–dynamical downscaling method and a high-resolution dynamical-only downscaling method are applied to daily mean,minimum and maximum air t.mperatures to investigate the quality of localscale est.mates produced by *** two downscaling approaches are evaluated using station observation data obtained from the Finnish meteorological Institute over a near-coastal region of western *** dynamical downscaling is performed with the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model,and the statistical downscaling method implemented is the Cumulative Distribution Function-transform(CDF-t).the CDF-t is trained using 20 years of WRF-downscaled Climate Forecast syst.m Reanalysis data over the region at a 3-km spatial resolution for the central month of each *** performance of the two methods is assessed qualitatively,by inspection of quantile-quantile plots,and quantitatively,through the Cramer-von mises,mean absolute error,and root.mean-square error *** hybrid approach is found to provide significantly more skillful forecasts of the observed daily mean and maximum air t.mperatures than those of the dynamical-only downscaling(for all seasons).the hybrid method proves to be less computationally expensive,and also to give more skillful t.mperature forecasts(at least for the Finnish near-coastal region).

On Integrable Roots in split Lie triple syst.ms

We focus on the notion of an integrable root in the framework of split Lie triple syst.ms t with a coherent 0-root space. As a main result, it is shown that if t has all its nonzero roots integrable, then its standard embedding is a split Lie algebra having all its nonzero roots integrable. As a consequence, a local finiteness theorem for split Lie triple syst.ms, saying that whenever all nonzero roots of t are integrable then t is locally finite, is stated. Finally, a classification theorem for split simple Lie triple syst.ms having all its nonzero roots integrable is given.
