Weather influenced nestling growth of an insectivorous b.t not a granivorous grassland passerine in Argentina

Nestling growth of b.rds can b. affected b. weather *** general,it is expected that higher temper-atures favor growth b. improving food availab.lity and nestling metab.lism,while rain hinders it b. reducing foraging ***,most of these patterns have b.en describ.d in insectivorous cavity-nesting b.rds in temperate *** tested these predictions in two neotropical grassland ground-nesting b.rds with contrasting nestling diets and therefore potentially different responses to *** measured nestlings of the Hellmayr’s Pipit(Anthus hellmayri,an insectivorous passerine)and the Grassland Yellow-Finch(Sicalis luteola,which feeds its nestlings exclusively with seeds)during three b.eeding seasons(2017-2020)in central-eastern *** took measurements of tarsus and b.dy mass,modeled growth curves using nonlinear mixed-effects models,and evaluated the effects of minimum daily temperature and precipitation during the growth period and the 30 days prior to *** pipits(60 nestlings from 21 nests),minimum temperatures during the growth period were positively associated with tarsus and b.dy mass ***,there was a positive association b.tween precipitation during the pre-hatching period and tarsus ***,none of the weather variab.es analyzed had significant effects on nestling growth of finches(131 nestlings from 35 nests).Dietary contrast b.tween species may explain the different *** activity and ab.ndance can b. affected b. weather variations within the span of a b.eeding season,whereas seeds may depend on conditions from previous years,making the effects harder to *** with reduced asymptotic size can have reduced chances of ***,pipit populations could b. impacted if they experience cold and dry conditions during their b.eeding season,which is of major relevance in the current context of climate change.

Multispecies forests have received increased scientific attention,driven b. the hypothesis that b.odiversity improves ecological ***,a greater species diversity presents challenges for forest management and *** study aims to develop b.sal area growth models for tree species *** analysis is b.sed on a dataset of 423 permanent plots(2,500 m^(2))located in temperate forests in Durango,***,we define tree species cohorts b.sed on individual and neighb.rhood-b.sed variab.es using a comb.nation of principal component and cluster ***,we estimate the b.sal area increment of each cohort through the generalized additive model to describ. the effect of tree size,competition,stand density and site *** principal component and cluster analyses assign a total of 37 tree species to eight cohorts that differed primarily with regard to the distrib.tion of tree size and vertical position within the *** generalized additive models provide satisfactory estimates of tree growth for the species cohorts,explaining b.tween 19 and 53 percent of the total variation of b.sal area increment,and highlight the following results:i)most cohorts show a"rise-and-fall"effect of tree size on tree growth;ii)surprisingly,the competition index"b.sal area of larger trees"had showed a positive effect in four of the eight cohorts;iii)stand density had a negative effect on b.sal area increment,though the effect was minor in medium-and high-density stands,and iv)b.sal area growth was positively correlated with site quality except for an oak *** developed species cohorts and growth models provide insight into their particular ecological features and growth patterns that may support the development of sustainab.e management strategies for temperate multispecies forests.

Predicting the clothing insulation through machine learning algorithms:A comparative analysis and a practical approach

Since indoor clothing insulation is a key element in thermal comfort models,the aim of the present study is proposing an approach for predicting it,which could assist the occupants of a b.ilding in terms of recommendations regarding their *** that,a systematic analysis of input variab.es is exposed,and 13 regression and 12 classification machine learning algorithms were developed and *** results are b.sed on data from 3352 questionnaires and 21 input variab.es from a field study in mixed-mode office b.ildings in *** temperature at 6 a.m.,indoor air temperature,indoor relative humidity,comfort temperature and gender were the most relevant features for predicting clothing *** comparing machine learning algorithms,decision tree-b.sed algorithms with b.osting techniques achieved the b.st *** proposed model provides an efficient method for forecasting the clothing insulation level and its application would entail optimising thermal comfort and energy efficiency.

Single atom Cu-N-C catalysts for the electro-reduction of CO_(2) to CO assessed b. rotating ring-disc electrode

The electrochemical CO_(2) reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR) to controllab.e chemicals is considered as a promising pathway to store intermittent renewab.e energy. Herein, a set of catalysts b.sed on copper-nitrogendoped carb.n xerogel(Cu-N-C) are successfully developed varying the copper amount and the nature of the copper precursor, for the efficient CO_(2)RR. The electrocatalytic performance of Cu-N-C materials is assessed b. a rotating ring-disc electrode(RRDE), technique still rarely explored for CO_(2)RR. For comparison, products are also characterized b. online gas chromatography in a H-cell. The as-synthesized Cu-NC catalysts are found to b. active and highly CO selective at low overpotentials(from -0.6 to -0.8 V ***) in 0.1 M KHCO_(3), while H_(2) from the competitive water reduction appears at larger overpotentials(-0.9 V vs. RHE). The optimum copper acetate-derived catalyst containing Cu-N_(4) moieties exhib.ts a CO_(2)-to-CO turnover frequency of 997 h^(-1) at -0.9 V vs. RHE with a H_(2)/CO ratio of 1.8. These results demonstrate that RRDE configuration can b. used as a feasib.e approach for identifying electrolysis products from CO_(2)RR.
