Emerging and re-emerging human infectious diseases:A systematic review of the role of wild animals with a focus on public health impact

Infectious diseases continue to impose unpredictable burdens on global health and economies, a subject that requires constant research and updates. In this sense, the objective of the present article was to review studies on the role of wild animals as reservoirs and/or dispersers of etiological agents of human infectious diseases in order to compile data on the main wild animals and etiological agents involved in zoonotic outbreaks. A systematic review was carried out using PRISMA guidelines, using the PubMed, Scopus and SciELO platforms as data banks. The descriptors used were "zoonosis", "human infectious diseases" and "wild animals". The results show that wild animals(mainly bats, birds and primates) play an important role in the dissemination of etiological agents(mainly viruses, as a new coronavirus called 2019 Novel coronavirus) in extensive geographic regions. Moreover, these wild animal organisms can act as the site for essential biotic synergy among several pathogenic microorganisms, promoting a higher rate of adaptation, mutation and even genetic recombination, with consequent stimulation of new strains and subtypes, inducing new infectious agents with unknown virulent potential. In conclusion, the monitoring of these diseases and adequate preparation for possible epidemics and pandemics are fundamental conditions for the mitigation of their future impact. The zoonotic threat of these etiological agents and the impact on public health can be enormous as shown by the ongoing epidemic of 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-ncoV) infections.

Yellow fever is an acute viral disease endemic to tropical countries, like Brazil, where, since the 1940 s, has no significant documented outbreaks similar to that observed between 2016/2018(2 045 confirmed cases and 677 deaths; caused by the sylvatic form).The principal manipulating factors inciting this change were absence of appropriate vaccination campaigns and increased urbanization & population growth in forest areas, with prevalence of the virus in the species inhabiting of these *** 2016/2018 outbreaks exhibited incidence in areas with historically low or no yellow fever virus activity, triggering a surge in recorded deaths-mainly in the Southeastern states of *** Brazilian government aggressively responded, reforming the countries' prophylactic measures, including vaccine implementation-as of March, 2018, switching from the former double dose regimen of the vaccine, to a single dose protocol, deemed as ***, some states appropriated the fractionated dosage(1/5 of the standard dose), in foresight of potential vaccine *** prevent the uprising of new sylvatic yellow fever cases in Brazil, it's obligatory the development of effective combative plans, including adaptation of prophylactic measures individually(use of repellents, protective clothing etc.), applicable vaccination campaigns in every endemic region, to raise awareness to locals and visitors *** these preventative strategies, the persistence of cases and the recent outbreaks in Brazil, highlight the possible ineffectiveness of combative *** on these considerations, the objective of this review was to raise more awareness of the epidemiological impact of the disease in Brazil.

The conversion of rice hulls into fermentable saccharides was explored through steam pretreatment employing 2.5% SO_(2).The in teraction between temperature and time was assessed by means of the response surface method to achieve optimum contents of c6-sugars in water-insoluble solids(WIS)and c5-sugars in the *** carried out at 218℃ for 2.3 min released liquor containing 55.4 g/L of sugars(29.1 g/L of xylose).In parallel,the WIS was subjected to enzymatic saccharification using different solid and enzyme loads via an experimental design:assays using 22.0% WIS and 20.0 filter paper units(FPU)/g led to 90.6 g/L of glucose,corresponding to a yield of 86.4% and an overall yield of 72.4%.The data reported are the highest ever found for such raw material,making it attractive to compete with conventi on al lig no cellulosic biomass.

The current investigation intended to check the influence of Pleurotus albidus extract supplementation on body weight,food intake,glycemia,serum lipids,and oxidative stress *** male c57BL/6 mice were partitioned into two experimental groups:control and *** supplementation was performed by gavage(500 mg/kg)for 20 uninterrupted *** this period,all animals received water and food ad libitum and they had their food ingestion and body weight monitored ***,mice underwent an insulin sensitivity test,followed by euthanasia and biochemical *** supplementation decreased the body weight and food intake,but it did not change other parameters in healthy *** work showed for the first time that the *** extract supplementation presents a promising potential on body weight and food intake control.

Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) exhibiting analgesic and antipiretic properties and widely used in the management of chronic diseases. Associated with these use, there are registers of adverse reactions. Microparticle formulations in hydrogel matrix can be used to form a semi-permeable barrier which enables their actions and can reduce the effects. This work presents a study on the effect of gelatin/carboxymethyl cellulose (Gel/cMc) semi-IPN matrix composition on the retention and kinetic behavior of releasing this drug. The microparticles were obtained through the emulsion-crosslinking method using 23 factorial planning and the piroxicam was added as solid particles. In order to characterize the interaction between matrix-active agent and quantification of the drug, the following techniques were applied: SEM, DSc and XRD. SEM micrographs revealed microparticles with regular and spherical shape and that in some compositions the drug is partially absorbed and not encapsulated. Beyond that DSc and XRD analyses indicate that the piroxicam remained in the matrixes, maintains the same crystalline form. The factorial planning analysis indicated that matrix obtained a maximum encapsulation efficiency (EE%) of 10.64% and became possible to create a response surface graph using a EE% as answer. In addition to this, release kinetics analyses demonstrated that the release process seems to be governed by distinctly kinetic models, considering the composition of the sample. In some samples the release can be driven by Fickinianan diffusion, others by anomalous transport or swelling.

The effect of aqueous extract of cecropia glazioui Snethlage (Embauba) in the rat fetal development. This study was to complement previous assays on the physical and neurobehavioral development of rats resulted from oral administration of 1 g/kg/day cecropia glazioui Snethlage (c. glazioui) aqueous extract (LD50 > 5 g·kg-1in pregnant rats (peri- and post-natal studies). In the present study, the effect of 2.5 g/kg/week c. glazioui aqueous extract, administered to pregnant rats during 15 days, was verified in the rat offspring development. No acute or chronic toxicity (no effects on mortality or weight average daily gain) were observed. In addition, no effects on reproductive parameters (offspring vitality, placenta and fetus weight, number of corpora lutea on each ovary, pre- and post-implantation loss) and on offspring external morphology were found. We concluded that c. glazioui aqueous extract administered during pregnancy did not cause abnormalities in rat offspring.

Objective: The goal of this study was to determine the prevalence of c. trachomatis in women diagnosed with infertility attending the Outpatient clinic of Infertility from Botucatu Medical School, UNESP, Brazil. Patients and Methods: This molecular study enrolled a total of 112 women. Among these patients, 62 presented primary infertility while 50 presented secondary infertility. The criteria for eligibility included women who were: reproductive-aged;no prior report of seroconversion for HIV;no antibiotic or vaginal cream used in the preceding 30 days;and abstinence from sexual intercourse for 72 hours before the visit. The women were submitted to a gynecological examination and cervical samples were collected with an endocervical cytobrush for molecular analysis of c. trachomatis. Results: The prevalence of chlamydial infection was 8% with similar prevalence between primary (8.1%) and secondary (8.0%) infertility. conclusion: considering the asymptomatic nature of chlamydial infection and its association with tubal factor infertility, there is a pressing need to incorporate the screening of c. trachomatis infection as part of the routine investigation for infertility. The early diagnostic by screening can minimize complications and reduce Public Health costs with Assisted Reproductive Technology.

During the past 30 years, there has been spectacular growth in the use of risk analysis and risk management tools developed by engineers in the financial and insurance sectors. The insurance, the reinsurance, and the investment banking sectors have enthusiastically adopted loss estimation tools developed by engineers in developing their business strategies and for managing their financial risks. As a result, insurance/reinsurance strategy has evolved as a major risk mitigation tool in managing catastrophe risk at the individual, corporate, and government level. This is particularly true in developed countries such as US, Western Europe, and Japan. Unfortunately, it has not received the needed attention in developing countries, where such a strategy for risk management is most needed. Fortunately, in the last five years, there has been excellent focus in developing ＂Insur Tech＂ tools to address the much needed ＂Insurance for the Masses＂, especially for the Asian Markets. In the earlier years of catastrophe model development, risk analysts were mainly concerned with risk reduction options through engineering strategies, and relatively little attention was given to financial and economic strategies. Such state-of-affairs still exists in many developing countries. The new developments in the science and technologies of loss estimation due to natural catastrophes have made it possible for financial sectors to model their business strategies such as peril and geographic diversification, premium calculations, reserve strategies, reinsurance contracts, and other underwriting tools.
