Proteomic profile of human monocytic cells infected with dengue virus

Objective: To identify the changes in the proteome of U937 cells infected with dengue virus(DEnV).Methods: In this study, differentiated U937 cultures were infected with two DEnV-2strains, one of which was associated with dengue(DEnV-2/nG) and the other one with severe dengue(DEnV-2/16681), with the aim of determining the cellular proteomic profiles under different infection conditions. Cellular proteins were extracted and separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis, and those proteins with differential expression profiles were identified by mass spectrometry. The obtained results were correlated with cellular viability, the number of infectious viral particles, and the viral DnA/protein ***: In comparison with non-infected cultures, in the cells infected with the DEnV-2/nG strain, nine proteins were expressed differentially(five were upregulated and four were downregulated); in those cultures infected with the DEnV-2/16681 strain, six proteins were differentially expressed(two were downregulated and four were upregulated). The downregulated proteins included fatty acid-binding protein, heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein 1, protein disulfide isomerase, enolase 1, heat shock 70 k Da protein 9, phosphotyrosyl phosphatase, and annexin IV. The upregulated proteins included heat shock 90 k Da protein AA1, tubulin beta, enolase 1, pyruvate kinase,transaldolase and phospholipase ***: Because the monocyte/macrophage lineage is critical for disease pathogenicity, additional studies on these proteins could provide a better understanding of the cellular response to DEnV infection and could help identify new therapeutic targets against infection.

The effectiveness of monitoring and early-warning systems for ground deformation phenomena,such as sinkholes,depends on their ability to accurately resolve the ongoing ground displacement and detect the subtle deformation preceding catastrophic *** sinkholes with a slow subsidence rate and diffuse edges pose a significant challenge for subsidence monitoring due to the low deformation rates and limited lateral strain *** this work,we satisfactorily illustrate the practicality of the Brillouin optical time domain analysis(BOTDA)to measure the spatial-temporal patterns of the vertical displacement in such challenging slow-moving sagging *** assess the performance of the approach,we compare the strain recorded by the distributed optical fiber sensor with the vertical displacement measured by high-precision *** results show a good spatial correlation with the ability to identify the maximum subsidence *** is also a good temporal correlation with the detection of an acceleration phase in the subsidence associated with a flood event.

We present an unusual case of portal vein thrombosis with a splanchnic hemangioma secondary to acute biliary pancreatitis. We report a 45-year-old patient, who has systemic arterial hypertension in treatment, was admitted for abdominal pain in the epigastrium, with irradiation to the right hypochondrium, accompanied by nausea and vomiting of 10 occasions of bile content, physical examination with pain in the right hypochondrium, Murphy positive. We have laboratory studies with a lipase of 788, so a diagnosis of pancreatitis is made with an etiology to be determined. The laboratories suggestive of acute biliary pancreatitis (lipase 788.71);an imaging study was subsequently performed (ultrasonography) with the result of stone in the common bile duct. A laparoscopy was performed with relative improvement, so he was discharged and returned 20 days after surgery due to abdominal pain of the same intensity in the left hypochondrium. Ending his hospitalization with a splenectomy for splenic hemangioma with portal vein thrombosis.

Colorectal and interval cancers of the Colorectal Cancer Screening Program in the Basque Country (Spain)

AIM To assess proportions, related conditions and survival of interval cancer(IC).METHODS The programme has a linkage with different clinical databases and cancer registers to allow suitable evaluation. This evaluation involves the detection of ICs after a negative faecal inmunochemical test(FIT), interval cancer FIT(IC-FIT) prior to a subsequent invitation, and the detection of ICs after a positive FIT and confirmatory diagnosis without colorectal cancer(CRC) detected and before the following recommended c o l o n o s c o p y, I C-c o l o n o s c o p y. W e c o n d u c t e d a retrospective observational study analyzing from January 2009 to December 2015 1193602 invited people onto the Programme(participation rate of 68.6%).RESULTS Two thousand five hundred and eighteen cancers were diagnosed through the programme, 18 cases of IC-colonoscopy were found before the recommended follow-up(43542 colonoscopies performed) and 186 IC-FIT were identified before the following invitation of the 769200 negative FITs. There was no statistically significant relation between the predictor variables of ICs with sex, age and deprivation index, but there was relation between location and stage. Additionally, it was observed that there was less risk when the location was distal rather than proximal(OR = 0.28, 95%CI: 0.20-0.40, P no statistical significance when the location was in the rectum as opposed to proximal. When comparing the screen-detected cancers(SCs) with ICs, significant differences in survival were found(P ng the 5-years survival for SCs 91.6% and IC-FIT 77.8%.COnCLUSIOn These findings in a Population Based CRC Screening Programme indicate the need of population-based studies that continue analyzing related factors to improve their detection and reducing harm.

Through the creation and construction of a curvature sensor of accelerometer type, using the spectral curvature concept or curvature energy that measures curvature in Volts/m3, an autonomous and mobile censorship of curvature sensing with reliable data transmission/reception in real time and remote position is designed and constructed considering the spectra of curvature of the measured curvature energy during the advance of the prototype as the normed measure by with β , a constant rationalized parameter according with the required advance of the mobile device in the control scale of their velocity. Likewise, the sensed curvature data are digitalized through wireless interconnectivity using a HC-05 Module with a programmable device that includes logic blocks whose interconnection and functionality can be configured according to the sensor measure in situs. Also an application is planted to the obtaining of an energy plus due to the curvature that could be used in the displacement of a vehicle.

Cheetah:A Library for Parallel Ultrasound Beamforming in Multi-Core Systems

Developing new imaging methods needs to establish some proofs of concept before implementing them on real-time scenarios. nowadays, the high computational power reached by multi-core CPUs and GPUs have driven the development of software-based beamformers. Taking this into account, a library for the fast generation of ultrasound images is presented. It is based on Synthetic Aperture Imaging Techniques (SAFT) and it is fast because of the use of parallel computing techniques. Any kind of transducers as well as SAFT techniques can be defined although it includes some pre-built SAFT methods like 2R-SAFT and TFM. Furthermore, 2D and 3D imaging (slice- based or full volume computation) is supported along with the ability to generate both rectangular and angular images. For interpolation, linear and polynomial schemes can be chosen. The versatility of the library is ensured by interfacing it to Matlab, Python and any programming language over different operating systems. On a standard PC equipped with a single nVIDIA Quadro 4000 (256 cores), the library is able to calculate 262,144 pixels in ≈105 ms using a linear transducer with 64 elements, and 2,097,152 voxels in ≈ 5 seconds using a matrix transducer with 121 elements when TFM is applied.
