Modelling fracture propagation and failure in a rock pillar under mechanical and thermal loadings

The Aspoe Pillar Stability Experiment （APSE） was conducted to study the rock mass response in a heated rock pillar between two large boreholes. This paper summarizes the back calculations of the APSE using a two-dimensional （2D） fracture propagation code FRACOD. To be able to model all the loading phases of the APSE, including the thermal loading, the code was improved in several ways. A sequential excavation function was developed to model promptly the stepwise changing loading geometry. Prior to the mod- elling, short-term compressive strength test models were set up aiming to reproduce the stress-strain behaviour observed for the Aspoe diorite in laboratory. These models simulate both the axial and lateral strains of radial-controlled laboratory tests, The volumetric strain was calculated from the simulations and compared with the laboratory results, The pillar models include vertical and horizontal 2D models from where the stress in the pillar wall was investigated, The vertical model assesses the stability of the experimental rock volume and suggests the resultant stress below the tunnel floor in the pillar area. The horizontal model considers cross-sections of the pillar between the two large boreholes. The horizon- tal model is used to simulate the evolution of the stress in the rock mass during the excavation of the boreholes and during and the heating phase to give an estimation of the spalling strength. The modelling results suggest that the excavation-induced stresses will cause slight fracturing in the pillar walls, if the strength of the APSE pillar is set to about 123 MPa. Fracture propagation driven by thermal loading leads to minor spalling. The thermal evolution, elastic behaviour and brittle failure observed in the experiment are well reflected by the models.

In this study,we assess the potential of X-band Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar imagery for automated classification of sea ice over the Baltic Sea.A bistatic SAR scene acquired by the TanDEM-X mission over the Bothnian Bay in March of 2012 was used in the *** intensity,interferometric coherence magnitude,and interferometric phase have been used as informative features in several classification *** combinations of classification features were evaluated using Maximum likelihood(ML),Random Forests(RF)and Support Vector Machine(SVM)classifiers to achieve the best possible discrimination between open water and several sea ice types(undeformed ice,ridged ice,moderately deformed ice,brash ice,thick level ice,and new ice).Adding interferometric phase and coherence-magnitude to backscatter-intensity resulted in improved overall classification per-formance compared to using only *** RF algorithm appeared to be slightly superior to SVM and ML due to higher overall accuracies,however,at the expense of somewhat longer processing *** best overall accuracy(OA)for three methodologies were achieved using combination of all tested features were 71.56,72.93,and 72.91%for ML,RF and SVM classifiers,*** to OAs of 62.28,66.51,and 63.05%using only backscatter intensity,this indicates strong benefit of SAR interferometry in discriminating different types of sea *** contrast to several earlier studies,we were particularly able to successfully discriminate open water and new ice classes.

The Chemical Quality of Some Legumes, Peas, Fava Beans, Blue and White Lupins and Soybeans Cultivated in Finland

The cultivation and management of different legume species and their varieties were tested in South-Western Finland at farmers＇ fields in two years, 2010 and 2011. The studied legumes were peas and lava beans, and included also such species which are seldom or not normally cultivated in Finland, namely soybeans and blue and white lupins. Seed samples were collected from legume farms. The quality of different legume species was analysed and compared to each others. The chemical qualities were analysed for crude protein, fat, fibre, ash, nitrogen-free extract and phytic acid contents, and amino acid composition. The quality of the varieties of lupins and soybeans were compared to the quality of pea and fava bean varieties, which are generally cultivated nowadays in Finland. The highest protein contents were in soybean （369 and 379 g kg^-1） and white lupin （382 g kg^-1） and the lowest in pea varieties. Amino acid composition of legumes is good, but lupins have lower lysine content （g 100 g^-1 protein） than other legumes. High fat contents were in soybeans （91 and 100 g kg^-1） and white lupin （101 g kgl）, and moderate in blue lupin （30-49 g kg^-1）. Fuego fava bean variety had lower protein content than Kontu. The highest phytic acid contents were in soybeans （18.9 and 22.6 mg kg^-1） and the lowest in white lupin （6.2 mg kg^-1）. Lupins are interesting protein crops, especially white lupin with high protein and fat and low phytic acid contents. Lupins are not day length sensitive, like soybean, and therefore valuable for long-day cultivation conditions The present research strengthens the good chemical quality of legumes for food and feed purposes.

考虑不同初始垂向应力、不同初始水平应力及不同应力转移速度条件,借助于自主研发的采动应力试验系统,研究了非均布荷载作用下煤岩体的力学强度特性。研究结果表明:煤岩外部损伤残余块体对煤岩内部力学承载能力具有强化作用,当初始垂向应力、初始水平应力、应力转移速度一定时,煤岩内部力学承载能力近似为煤岩外部力学承载能力的2倍;伴随初始垂向应力的增加,煤岩整体后期力学承载能力不断降低,且处于不同初始垂向应力范围,煤岩内、外部后期力学强度递减特征不同,当处于较小初始垂向应力范围时,煤岩外部后期力学强度递减量大于煤岩内部,当处于较大初始垂向应力范围时,煤岩外部后期力学强度递减量小于煤岩内部;初始水平应力越大,煤岩体的力学承载能力越高,且无论较小还是较大初始水平应力范围,煤岩内部后期力学强度增量总大于煤岩外部;伴随应力转移速度的增加,煤岩峰值强度不断升高,应力转移速度对煤岩内部区域力学性质的影响相对较大。

Sevoflurane preconditioning and postconditioning attenuate apoptosis induced by ischemia-reperfusion in rat lung

Objective To investigate the effect of sevoflurane preconditioning and postconditioning on lung ischemia-reperfusion(IR) injury and apoptosis in *** Wistar rats were randomly assigned to four groups:sham group(n =6):no ischaemia-reperfusion;IR group(n =6):left lung ischemia was achieved by clamping the hilum for 90 min,followed by 120 min reperfusion;sev+pre group(n =6):1 minimum alveolar concentration(MAC) sevoflurane was admi-nistered for 30 min prior to ischemia;sev+post group(n =6):ischemia was followed by 1 MAC sevoflurane postconditioning at the first 30 min ***2 was measured after *** number of apoptotic cells was estimated using the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick-end labeling(TUNEL) *** After ischemia-reperfusion,a significant deterioration of PaO2 was noticed and the number of apoptotic cells remarkably increased compared with that of sham *** sev+pre group and sev+post group,PaO2 was(85.7±14.4) mmHg and(88.6±12.5) mmHg respectively,which was apparently increased compared with that in IR group [(63.9±11.3) mmHg,P <0.05].The number of apoptotic cells in sev+pre group [(6.94 ± 1.49)%] and sev+post group [(7.69 ± 1.61)%] was significantly lower than that in IR group [(12.12 ± 2.77)%,P <0.05].But all parameters showed no significant difference between sev+pre group and sev+post *** Both sevoflurane preconditioning and postconditioning could prevent lung ischemia-reperfusion injury and attenuate apoptosis in rat.

In this study, we report the fabrication of engineered iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs)functionalized with anti-human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2 (HER2) antibody totarget the tumor antigen HER2. The Fc-directed conjugation of antibodies to the MNPs aidstheir efficient immunospecific targeting through free Fab portions. The directional specificity ofconjugation was verified on a macrophage cell line. Immunofluorescence studies on macrophagestreated with functionalized MNPs and free anti-HER2 antibody revealed that the antibodymolecules bind to the MNPs predominantly through their Fc portion. Different cell lines with different HER2 expression levels were used to test the specificity of our functionalized nanoprobe formolecular targeting applications. The results of cell line targeting demonstrate that these engineered MNPs are able to differentiate between cell lines with different levels of HER2 expression.
