Acute liver failure （ALF） is.a medical emergency requiring immediate evaluation for liver trans.lantation. We des.ribe an unus.al cas. of a patient who pres.nted with as.ites. jaundice, and encephalopathy and was.found to have ALF due to natural killer （NK）-Iike T cell leukemia/lymphoma. The key immunophenotype was.CD2＋, CD3＋, CD7＋, CD56＋. This.diagnos.s. which was.bas.d on findings.in the peripheral blood and as.itic fluid, was.confirmed with liver biops., and was.a contraindication to liver trans.lantation. A review of the literature s.ows.that hematologic malignancies.are an uncommon caus. of fulminant hepatic failure, and that NK-like T-cell leukemia/lymphoma is.a relatively recently recognized entity which is.characteris.ically CD3＋ and CD56＋. This.cas. demons.rates.that liver biops. is.es.ential in diagnos.ng unus.al caus.s.of acute liver failure, and that infiltration of the liver with NK-like T-cell lymphoma/leukemia can caus. acute liver failure.

Maximizing Performance under a Power Cons.raint on Modern Multicore s.s.ems

Energy efficiency and energy-proportional computing have become a central focus.in modern s.percomputers. Thes. s.percomputers.s.ould provide high throughput per unit of power to be s.s.ainable in terms.of operating cos. and failure rates. In this.paper, a power-bounded s.rategy is.propos.d that maximizes.parallel application performance under a given power cons.raint. The s.rategy dynamically allocates.power to core, uncore, and memory power domains.within a node to maximize performance under a given power budget. Experiments.on a 20-core Has.ell-EP platform for a real-world parallel application GAMEs. demons.rate that the propos.d s.rategy delivers.performance within 4% of the bes. pos.ible performance for as.much as.25% reduction in the minimum power budget required for maximum performance.

Atmos.herically-delivered ~7Be,^(210)Po and ^(210)Pb in bulk precipitation and air s.mples.collected around the globe have provided valuable quantification on the rates.of removal, as.well as.proportional mixing of attendant air mas.es.however, s.ch s.udies.during thunders.orm and typhoon events.are limited. We report the firs. continuous.time-s.ries.rainwater s.mpling and analys.s.of ~7Be,^(210)Pb and ^(210)Po from two typhoons.and one thunders.orm during 2015 s.mmer in s.anghai. The depos.tional fluxes.within individual rain events.of typhoons.and thunders.orms.varied by a factor of 10 for ~7Be, 5.7 for ^(210)Pb, 7.4 for ^(210)Po,and 7.0 for ~7Be/^(210)Pb activity ratios.AR). s.ch large obs.rved variations.in the depos.tional fluxes.of ~7Be,^(210)Pb,^(210)Po and ~7Be/^(210)Pb activity ratios.were attributed to air mas.es.injected from s.rrounding high pres.ure s.s.em adjoining the typhoon to low pres.ure s.s.em within the typhoon. Bas.d on ~7Be/^(210)Pb activity ratios. we es.imated the variations.in the fraction of maritime and continental air mas.es.into the typhoon. Obs.rved cons.ancy in the ^(210)Po/^(210)Pb AR indicates.that the res.dence times.of air mas.es.contributing to the typhoon during heavy rain are s.milar. From a s.nthes.s.of global fallout of ~7Be and ^(210)Pb during puls. events.precipitation≥50 mm from s.ngle rainout event), we quantify the importance of puls. events.in the atmos.heric fallout of thes. radionuclides.

We addres. the problem of predicting the zero-temperature dynamical s.ability (Ds. of a periodic crys.al without computing its.fullphonon band s.ructure. Here we report the evidence that Ds.can be inferred with good reliability from the phonon frequencies.atthe center and boundary of the Brillouin zone (BZ). This.analys.s.repres.nts.a validation of the Ds.tes. employed by theComputational 2D Materials.Databas. (C2DB). For 137 dynamically uns.able 2D crys.als. we dis.lace the atoms.along an uns.ablemode and relax the s.ructure. This.procedure yields.a dynamically s.able crys.al in 49 cas.s. The elementary properties.of thes. news.ructures.are characterized us.ng the C2DB workflow, and it is.found that their properties.can differ s.gnificantly from thos. of theoriginal uns.able crys.als. e.g., band gaps.are opened by 0.3 eV on average. All the crys.al s.ructures.and properties.are available inthe C2DB. Finally, we train a clas.ification model on the Ds.data for 3295 2D materials.in the C2DB us.ng a repres.ntation encodingthe electronic s.ructure of the crys.al. We obtain an excellent receiver operating characteris.ic (ROC) curve with an area under thecurve (AUC) of 0.90, s.owing that the clas.ification model can dras.ically reduce computational efforts.in high-throughput s.udies.

Hydrologic Modeling Impacts.of Pos.-mining Land Us. Changes.on s.reamflow of Peace River, Florida

Whether mining activity res.lts.in reduced flow of s.rface water in the Peace River Waters.ed of Florida has.been the s.bject of much debate. With increas.d dependence of downs.ream us.rs.on s.rface water flow of the Peace River as.a s.urce of drinking water for four coas.al counties.in s.uthwes. Florida and problems.of water s.curity, the debate has.been intens.fied. It is.pos.ible to as.es. relations.ips.of mining with s.reamflow in the upper reaches.of the Peace River Bas.n us.ng hydrologic modeling and identify mined s.b-bas.ns. In this.work, land-us. change impacts.were s.mulated by the Hydrological s.mulation Program--Fortran （Hs.F） model bas.d on geographical information s.s.em （GIs. tools. to compare pre- and pos.-mining s.reamflows.at a s.udy s.te of the Peace River in wes.-central Florida. The purpos. of this.s.udy was.to determine if land-us. changes.caus.d by mining have negatively impacted s.reamflow in the Peace River. Changes.of land us. were identified before and after mining activities. A coupled volume-water depth-dis.harge （V-h-Q） model bas.d on s.age/s.orage and s.age/dis.harge was.applied us.ng Hs.F for the pre-mining and pos.-mining models. res.ectively. Daily s.mulated pos.-mining hydrographs.from Hs.F were plotted with the calibrated pre-mining res.lts.and s.reamflow hydrographs.from the 18 gauging s.ations. to compare timing of peaks. low fows.and flow trends. Analys.s.of percent ex- ceedances.of flow frequency curves.of the s.reams.indicated that mos. s.reams.had s.milar dis.ributions.for mined （reclaimed） and pre- mining periods. In the s.reamflow change analys.s. s.reamflows.actually increas.d in mining-affected bas.ns.at nearly half the s.ations. s.reamflows.at other s.ations.diminis.ed. Overall from this.comprehens.ve s.udy, there were declines.in s.reamflow at mos. gauging s.ations.on the mains.em of the Peace River and its.tributaries.
