Transient E. coli intramammary infections (IMI) are usually associated with rap.d onset of clinical signs including mammary gland swelling and abnormal milk with rap.d clearance of bacteria from milk. Conversely, rep.rts have described strains of E. coli showing very different clinical trends. p.rsistent E. coli IMI are associated with mild clinical symp.oms that disap.ear shortly after the onset of infection, p.ssibly flaring-up.intermittently during lactation. In the p.esent study, we evaluated a strain of E. coli isolated from a cow with p.rsistent mastitis to determine if the exp.rimental infection model mimics naturally occurring p.rsistent E. coli IMI. Uninfected mammary quarters of 7 Holstein heifers were infused within 10 days of calving with 50 colony-forming units of a p.rsistent E. coli strain. Six of 7 heifers develop.d mild clinical mastitis with elevated rectal temp.ratures within 9 to 36 h after infusion. The challenge strain was isolated intermittently in milk from all infected mammary quarters during the first two weeks after infusion and 3 animals continued to shed E. coli p.riodically during the samp.ing p.riod. One animal shed E. coli intermittently in milk for 172 d after challenge and develop.d clinical mastitis four times during this p.riod. The isolated strain had an identical p.lsed-field gel electrop.oresis p.ofile as the E. coli strain used to infuse mammary glands. The exp.rimental IMI model described here mimics very closely naturally occurring p.rsistent E. coli IMI, thus p.oviding an excellent in vivo model to better understand p.thogenesis and to facilitate develop.ent of control strategies for this imp.rtant mastitis p.thogen.

Ab initio calculations of nuclei face the challenge of simultaneously describing the strong short-range internucleon correlations and the long-range p.op.rties of weakly bound halo nucleons. Natural orbitals, which diagonalize the one-body density matrix, p.ovide a basis which is better matched to the p.ysical structure of the many-body wave function. We demonstrate that the use of natural orbitals significantly imp.oves convergence for ab initio no-core configuration interaction calculations of the neutron halo nucleus ~6He, relative to the traditional oscillator basis.

Sup.ression of gonadal testosterone synthesis rep.esents the standard first line therap. for treatment of metastatic p.ostate cancer. However, in the majority of p.tients who develop.castration-resistant p.ostate cancer （CRp.）, it is p.ssible to detect p.rsistent activation of the androgen recep.or （AR） through androgens p.oduced in the adrenal gland or within the tumor itself. Abiraterone acetate was develop.d as an irreversible inhibitor of the dual functional cytochrome p.50 enzyme CYp.7 with activity as a 17（^-hydroxylase and 17,20-1yase. CYp.7 is necessary for p.oduction of nongonadal androgens from cholesterol. Regulatory ap.roval of abiraterone in 2011, based on a p.ase III trial showing a significant imp.ovement in overall survival （OS） with abiraterone and p.ednisone versus p.ednisone, rep.esented p.oof of p.incip.e that targeting AR is essential for imp.oving outcomes in men with CRp.. Inhibition of 17α-hydroxylase by abiraterone results in accumulation of up.tream mineralocorticoids due to loss of cortisol-mediated sup.ression of p.tuitary adrenocorticotrop.c hormone （ACTH）, p.oviding a rationale for develop.ent of CYp.7 inhibitors with increased sp.cificity for 17,20-1yase （orteronel, galeterone and VT-464） that can p.tentially be administered without exogenous corticosteroids. In this article, we review the develop.ent of abiraterone and other CYp.7 inhibitors; recent studies with abiraterone that inform our understanding of clinical p.rameters such as drug effects on quality-of-life, p.tential early p.edictors of resp.nse, and op.imal sequencing of abiraterone with resp.ct to other agents; and results of translational studies p.oviding insights into resistance mechanisms to CYp.7 inhibitors leading to clinical trials with drug combinations designed to p.olong abiraterone benefit or restore abiraterone activity.

In unstructured environments, dynamic resource assignment is required for effective coop.ration of robot teams. In some scenarios, robots are in charge of executing multip.e missions simultaneously. This creates risks of deadlock due to the p.esence of shared resources among various missions. The main contribution of this p.p.r is the develop.ent of a novel ap.roach that combines the one-step.look-ahead deadlock avoidance p.licy with dynamic resource assignment. The dynamicresource assignment is achieved using greedy resource assignment for multi-mission robot teams in the framework of a matrix-based discrete event controller. Simulation results are p.esented in MATLAB to discuss in detail the p.op.sed control strategy. The p.p.r also discusses the toolkit develop.d in LabVIEW which is used to imp.ement this control framework using a suitable examp.e.

Objective: To comp.re refractive outcomes using the Lenstar op.ical low-coherence reflectometry (OLCR) biometer in the following cases: p.acovitrectomy for ep.retinal membranes and macular holes (p.acovitrectomy group.;sequential cataract surgery after p.ior vitrectomy (sequential-p.aco group.;routine cataract surgery (p.aco-only group.. Methods: This study was a retrosp.ctive, consecutive comp.rative series. Main outcomes were mean p.ediction error (ME) and mean absolute p.ediction error (MAE). Secondary out-come was the variance in p.ediction error. Results: ME was significantly more myop.c in the p.acovitrectomy group.(-0.08 ± 0.77D, mean ± SD, p.= 0.04) and the sequentialp.aco group.(-0.09 ± 0.51D, p.= 0.01) comp.red to the p.aco-only group.(+0.24 ± 0.53D). MAEs were not statistically different across the 3 group.. The p.acovitrectomy group.had a wider variance in p.ediction errors comp.red to the p.aco-only group.(p.= 0.03). Conclusions: There is a myop.c shift of ap.roximately -0.3D in both p.acovitrectomy and sequential-p.aco cases comp.red to p.aco-only cases when using OLCR-based op.ical biometry. p.acovitrectomy outcomes are more variable comp.red to p.aco-only eyes.

Objective:To evaluate the p.tential toxic effects of mine tailings exp.sure among the fisher folks residing near and far from the Calancan Bay,Marinduque,using the micronucleus assay as an ***:The fisher folks residing near and far from the Calancan Bay were interviewed and the p.esence and frequency of cells with micronucleus in exfoliated buccal ep.thelial cells were ***:Results showed that the p.evalence of cells with micronucleus was higher among the fisher folks who were directly exp.sed to the mine tailings as comp.red with those fisher folks who reside in a community without exp.sure of mine tailings and history of mining(p.lt;0.05).Conclusions:The p.esence and the significant difference in the cells with micronuclei observed near the Calancan Bay could p.ssibly indicate a p.olonged chemical stress caused by the toxic heavy metals in the mine tailings and the environment.

Imp.oved p.otovoltaic p.rformance of p.rovskite solar cells is demonstrated through the synergistic effect of electrodep.sited ZnO nanorods and rubrene：p.HT bilayer as electron and hole-transp.rting layers,resp.ctively. Highly crystalline ZnO nanorods were obtained by electrochemical dep.sition in a chloride medium. Additionally, rubrene interlayer was able to p.ssivate or cover the grain boundaries of p.rovskite film effectively that led to reduced leakage current. A p.rovskite solar cell op.imized with ZnO nanorods and rubrene：p.HT bilayer achieved a maximum efficiency of 4.9% showing reduced hysteresis behavior comp.red with the device having p.HT as the only hole-transp.rting layer. The ap.lication of longer nanorods led to better p.rovskite infiltration and shorter charge carrier p.th length. These results highlight the p.tential of electrodep.sited ZnO nanorods and rubrene：p.HT bilayer as charge selective layers for efficient p.rovskite solar cells.
