Epidemiology of injuries in male and female youth football players:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background:To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of epidemiological data of injuries in male and female youth football players.Methods:Searches were performed in MEDLINE/PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,and SPORTDiscus databases.Studies were considered if they reported injury incidence rate in male and female youth(≤19 years old)football players.Two reviewers(FJRP and ALV)extracted data and assessed trial quality using the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology(STROBE)statement and the Newcastle Ottawa Scale.The Grading of Recommendations Assessment,development,and Evaluation approach determined the quality of evidence.Studies were combined using a Poisson random effects regression model.Results:Forty-three studies were included.The overall incidence rate was 5.70 injuries/1000 h in males and 6.77 injuries/1000 h in females.Match injury incidence(14.43 injuries/1000 h in males and 14.97 injuries/1000 h in females)was significantly higher than training injury incidence(2.77 injuries/1000 h in males and 2.62 injuries/1000 h in females).The lower extremity had the highest incidence rate in both sexes.The most common type of injury was muscle/tendon for males and joint/ligament for females.Minimal injuries were the most common in both sexes.The incidence rate of injuries increased with advances in chronological age in males.Elite male players presented higher match injury incidence than sub-elite players.In females,there was a paucity of data for comparison across age groups and levels of play.Conclusion:The high injury incidence rates and sex differences identified for the most common location and type of injury reinforce the need for implementing different targeted injury-risk mitigation strategies in male and female youth football players.

Grass-Root Coaches Knowledge, Understanding, Attitude And Confidence to deliver Injury Prevention Training in Youth Soccer: a Comparison of Coaches in Three EU Countries

Purpose It is well recognised that injury prevention training can reduce injury incidence,however current coach education pathways do not provide grass-root coaches with the knowledge and confidence to deliver such training to youth players.The aim of this study was to explore differences in knowledge,understanding,attitude and confidence to deliver such injury prevention training in three European countries.Methods A total of 269 grass-root soccer coaches from 3 European countries(Czech Republic,UK,Spain)were recruited for this study.A validated questionnaire exploring knowledge,understanding,attitude towards and confidence to deliver youth injury prevention training was completed prior to a 2 h workshop on injury prevention training.Differences between countries was examined using Bayesian factors to quantify the evidence for and against the hypothesis of independence(H0)by assuming a Poisson sampling scheme(as there was no a priori restriction on any cell count,nor on the grand total)(BF10 Poisson).Results Current knowledge,attitude and confidence to deliver injury prevention training to youth players was poor across all three European countries.Relatively few coaches were currently using injury prevention training in their coaching sessions(23%).There were some country specific differences for attitude towards injury prevention training and confidence to deliver injury training,with Spanish coaches reporting a more positive attitude and confidence to deliver such training.Significantly fewer coaches in the UK were using injury prevention training compared to coaches in Spain and the Czech Republic.Conclusion As coaches identified a need for coach education and few were delivering injury prevention training,there is a clear need to embed and implement this programme into the grassroots coaching framework of sports governing bodies to improve adoption,implementation and maintenance.

Purpose Jump-landing assessments provide a means to quantify an individual’s ability to attenuate ground reaction forces,generate lower limb explosive power and maintain joint alignment.In order to identify risk factors that can be targeted through appropriate training interventions,it is necessary to establish which(scalar)objective kinetic,kinematic,and performance measures are most associated with lower-extremity injury.Methods Online searches of MEDLINE,SCOPUS,EBSCOHost,SPORTDiscus and PubMed databases were completed for all articles published before March 2020 in accordance with PRISMA guidelines.Results 40 articles investigating nine jump-landing assessments were included in this review.The 79%of studies using drop jump(n=14)observed an association with future injury,while only 8%of countermovement jump studies(n=13)observed an association with injury risk.The 57%of studies using unilateral assessments found associations with risk of injury(n=14).Studies using performance measures(jump height/distance)as outcome measure were only associated with injury risk in 30%of cases.However,those using kinetic and/or kinematic analyses(knee abduction moment,knee valgus angle,knee separation distance,peak ground reaction force)found associations with injury in 89%of studies.Conclusion The landing element of jump-landing assessments appears to be superior for identifying individuals at greater risk of injury;likely due to a closer representation of the injury mechanism.Consequently,jump-landing assessments that involve attenuation of impact forces such as the drop jump appear most suited for this purpose but should involve assessment of frontal plane knee motion and ground reaction forces.

Genetic diversity and population structure of Pisum sativum accessions for marker-trait association of lipid content

Field pea(Pisum sativum L.) is an important protein-rich pulse crop produced globally. Increasing the lipid content of Pisum seeds through conventional and contemporary molecular breeding tools may bring added value to the crop. However, knowledge about genetic diversity and lipid content in field pea is limited. An understanding of genetic diversity and population structure in diverse germplasm is important and a prerequisite for genetic dissection of complex characteristics and marker-trait associations. Fifty polymorphic microsatellite markers detecting a total of 207 alleles were used to obtain information on genetic diversity, population structure and marker-trait associations. Cluster analysis was performed using UPGMA to construct a dendrogram from a pairwise similarity matrix. Pea genotypes were divided into five major clusters. A model-based population structure analysis divided the pea accessions into four groups. Percentage lipid content in 35 diverse pea accessions was used to find potential associations with the SSR markers. markers AD73, D21, and AA5 were significantly associated with lipid content using a mixed linear model(MLM) taking population structure(Q) and relative kinship(K) into account. The results of this preliminary study suggested that the population could be used for marker-trait association mapping studies.

Concentrated flow erosion processes are distinguished from splash and sheetflow processes in their enhanced ability to mobilize and transport large amounts of soil,water and dissolved elements.On rangelands,soil,nutrients and water are scarce and only narrow margins of resource losses are tolerable before crossing the sustainability threshold.In these ecosystems,concentrated flow processes are perceived as indicators of degradation and often warrant the implementation of mitigation strategies.Nevertheless,this negative perception of concentrated flow processes may conflict with the need to improve understanding of the role of these transport vessels in redistributing water,soil and nutrients along the rangeland hillslope.Vegetation influences the development and erosion of concentrated flowpaths and has been the primary factor used to control and mitigate erosion on rangelands.At the ecohydrologic level,vegetation and concentrated flow pathways are engaged in a feedback relationship,the understanding of which might help improve rangeland management and restoration strategies.In this paper,we review published literature on experimental and conceptual research pertaining to concentrated flow processes on rangelands to:(1)present the fundamental science underpinning concentrated flow erosion modeling in these landscapes,(2)discuss the influence of vegetation on these erosion processes,(3)evaluate the contribution of concentrated flow erosion to overall sediment budget and(4)identify knowledge gaps.

Common buckwheat(Fagopyrum esculentum)is an ancient crop with a world-wide distribution.Due to its excellent nutritional quality and high economic and ecological value,common buckwheat is becoming increasingly important throughout the world.The availability of a high-quality reference genome sequence and population genomic data will accelerate the breeding of common buckwheat,but the high heterozygosity due to the outcrossing nature has greatly hindered the genome assembly.Here we report the assembly of a chromosome-scale high-quality reference genome of F.esculentum var.homotropicum,a homozygous self-pollinating variant of common buckwheat.Comparative genomics revealed that two cultivated buckwheat species,common buckwheat(F.esculentum)and Tartary buckwheat(F.tataricum),underwent metabolomic divergence and ecotype differentiation.The expansion of several gene families in common buckwheat,including FhFAR genes,is associated with its wider distribution than Tartary buckwheat.Copy number variation of genes involved in the metabolism of flavonoids is associated with the difference of rutin content between common and Tartary buckwheat.Furthermore,we present a comprehensive atlas of genomic variation based on whole-genome resequencing of 572 accessions of common buckwheat.Population and evolutionary genomics reveal genetic variation associated with environmental adaptability and floral development between Chinese and non-Chinese cultivated groups.Genome-wide association analyses of multi-year agronomic traits with the content of flavonoids revealed that Fh05G014970 is a potential major regulator of flowering period,a key agronomic trait controlling the yield of outcrossing crops,and that Fh06G015130 is a crucial gene underlying flavor-associated flavonoids.Intriguingly,we found that the gene translocation and sequence variation of FhS-ELF3 contribute to the homomorphic self-compatibility of common buckwheat.Collectively,our results elucidate the genetic basis of speciation,ecological adaptation,fertility,and uniq

Populations inhabiting the bioclimatic edges of a species' geographic range face an increasing amount of stress from alterations to their environment associated with climate change. Moose are large-bodied ungulates that are sensitive to heat stress and have exhibited population declines and range contractions along their southern geographic extent. Using a hidden markov model to analyze movement and accelerometer data, we assigned behaviors (rest, forage, or travel) to all locations of global positioning system-collared moose (13, moose-years = 19) living near the southern edge of the species' range in and around Voyageurs National Park, MN, USA. We assessed how moose behavior changed relative to weather, landscape, and the presence of predators. Moose significantly reduced travel and increased resting behaviors at ambient temperatures as low as 15 °C and 24 °C during the spring and summer, respectively. In general, moose behavior changed seasonally in association with distance to lakes and ponds. Moose used wetlands for travel throughout the year, rested in conifer forests, and foraged in shrublands. The influence of wolves varied among individual moose and season, but the largest influence was a reduction in travel during spring when near a wolf home range core, primarily by pregnant females. Our analysis goes beyond habitat selection to capture how moose alter their activities based on their environment. Our findings, along with climate change forecasts, suggest that moose in this area will be required to further alter their activity patterns and space use in order to find sufficient forage and avoid heat stress.

苹果炭疽叶枯病是近年来在我国苹果产区流行的一种新病害。该病害传播速度快、并且可以导致果树大量落叶、果斑、储藏期果腐,对我国苹果产业发展造成严重威胁。果生刺盘孢是其主要病原。ste12基因是受Fus3/Kss1-MAPK途径调控的一个转录因子,已知其在真菌生长发育和致病性方面有着重要的作用。本研究以果生刺盘孢菌株1104-6为研究对象,采用基于基因重组原理的分片段标记法敲除菌株中的Cfste12基因,分析和测定突变体各项表型变化特征,对其功能进行了分析。Cfste12编码710个氨基酸的多肽,在N端有一个ste同源结构域,C端有两个锌指结构域。Cfste12基因缺失后分生孢子的萌发率、附着胞的形成率显著下降。此外,突变体不能穿透洋葱鳞片表皮。致病性测定显示,突变体失去对无伤嘎拉叶片和果实的致病性。通过冷冻切片显微观察发现,Cfste12缺失导致了突变体侵入钉的形成缺陷。在玻璃纸上,部分分生孢子萌发产生了畸形的次级分支菌丝而不是附着胞。通过有伤接种发现,突变体可以定殖嘎拉果实引起腐烂症状,但是病斑面积减小。在有性生殖方面,突变体产生的子囊壳较野生型小,但数量却明显增多,并且子囊壳内完全不产生子囊和子囊孢子。综合以上试验结果,我们认为果生刺盘孢转录因子Cfste12参与分生孢子萌发、附着胞形成及其对寄主的穿透和定殖等致病过程,并且参与调控了子囊壳、子囊及子囊孢子产生等有性器官的发育。
