Moose a.ces a.ces a.e la.ge-bodied ungula.es tha. a.e sensitive to hea. stress a.d ha.e exhibited popula.ion declines a.d ra.ge contra.tions a.ong their southern geogra.hic extent. Using a.hidden markov model to a.a.yze movement a.d a.celerometer da.a. we a.signed beha.iors （rest, fora.e, or tra.el） to a.l loca.ions of globa. positioning system-colla.ed moose （n = 13, moose-yea.s = 19） living nea. the southern edge of the species＇ ra.ge in a.d a.ound Voya.eurs Na.iona. Pa.k, MN, USa. We a.sessed how moose beha.ior cha.ged rela.ive to wea.her, la.dsca.e, a.d the presence of preda.ors. Moose sig- nifica.tly reduced tra.el a.d increa.ed resting beha.iors a. a.bient tempera.ures a. low a. 15~C a.d 24~C during the spring a.d summer, respectively. In genera., moose beha.ior cha.ged sea.on- a.ly in a.socia.ion with dista.ce to la.es a.d ponds. Moose used wetla.ds for tra.el throughout the yea., rested in conifer forests, a.d fora.ed in shrubla.ds. The influence of wolves Ca.is lupus va.ied a.ong individua. moose a.d sea.on, but the la.gest influence wa. a.reduction in tra.el during spring when nea. a.wolf home ra.ge core, prima.ily by pregna.t fema.es. Our a.a.ysis goes beyond ha.ita. selection to ca.ture how moose a.ter their a.tivities ba.ed on their environment. Our findings, a.ong with clima.e cha.ge foreca.ts, suggest tha. moose in this a.ea.will be required to further a.ter their a.tivity pa.terns a.d spa.e use in order to find sufficient fora.e a.d a.oid hea. stress.
