A review of radiopaque nano and polymeric materials for atherosclerosis imaging and catheterization procedures is presented in this paper. Cardiovascular diseases(CVDs) are the leading cause of death in the US with atherosclerosis as a significant contributor for mortality and morbidity. In this review paper, we discussed the physics of radiopacity and X-ray/CT, clinically used contrast agents,and the recent progress in the development of radiopaque imaging agents and devices for the diagnosis and treatment of CVDs. We focused on radiopaque imaging agents for atherosclerosis, radiopaque embolic agents and drug eluting beads, and other radiopaque medical devices related to catheterization procedures to treat CVDs. Common strategies of introducing radiopacity in the polymers, together with examples of their applications in imaging and medical devices, are also presented.

Arteriovenous fistulas(AVFs)are a vital form of AV access for patients requiring hemodialysis,but they link to overall morbidity and mortality when they fail to *** most common cause of AVF non-maturation is neointimal hyperplasia(NIH).To minimize the deleterious effects of NIH,a perivascular wrap composed of polycaprolactone(pCL),rosuvastatin(ROSU),and gold nanoparticles(AUNps)was *** study assessed the impact of ROSU-eluting,radiopaque resorbable perivascular wraps on pathologic NIH in a chronic kidney disease(CKD)rodent model of *** pCL wraps containing AuNps and/or ROSU were monitored for in vitro tensile strength,AuNp release,ROSU elution,and effect on cellular *** wraps were then implanted around an AVF in a CKD rodent model for in vivo ultrasound(US)and micro-computed tomography(mCT)*** specimens were collected for histological *** viability was preserved in the presence of both AuNp-and ROSU-containing *** vitro release of ROSU and AuNps correlated with in vivo findings of decreasing radiopacity on mCT over ***-loaded wraps had higher radiopacity(1270.0-1412.0 HU at week 2)compared with other wraps(103.5-456.0 HU),which decreased over *** addition of ROSU decreased US and histologic measurements of *** reduced NIH seen with ROSU-loaded perivascular wraps suggests a synergistic effect between mechanical support and anti-hyperplasia ***,AuNp loading increased wrap ***,our results show that AuNp-and ROSU-loaded pCL wraps induce AVF maturation and suppress NIH while facilitating optimal implanted device visualization.

The Appearances of power： Its Violent and popular Geneses According to Machiavelli and La Bo6tie

This paper develops a phenomenology of power in its various forms based on the account of the relationship between domination and freedom given by Niccol6 Machiavelli and ttienne de La Bo6tie. These authors are read in such a way as to extract the contemporary meaning of power in relation to the concept of appearance. Both authors link domination to other forms of violent power （oppression, exploitation, and exclusion）, and while they recognize the inevitable role of appearances in politics, they oppose the tendency of rulers to use appearances to maintain their power over the people. The sharing of intellectual power is then the most likely way for popular power, once it makes its appearance in society, to lead to transformations in governmental and economic power.

The purpose of our study was to compare interfractional bony setup variations in pelvic anatomy with two immobilization devices, the patient-specific Vac-Lok and the generic Dual Leg positioner system (both Civco Medical Solutions, Kalona, IA), for bilateral proton radiotherapy of the prostate. Two groups of 10 patients were studied. Computed tomography (CT) was performed three times a week, yielding 233 CT image sets for the vacuum system group and 252 for the other group. The translational shifts of the pelvic bone and prostate and rotation of the upper femurs of the femoral heads with respect to the simulation CT images were analyzed. Along the anterior-posterior and lateral axes, mean and systematic translational variations of the pelvic bone and prostate, relative to skin fiducials, were significantly lower in the Vac-Lok group (all p 0.01) than in the Dual Leg positioner group. Abduction of the upper femur, the dominant rotation, had random rotational variations of 1.9° and 2.0° and systematic rotations of 3.1° and 2.9° for the vacuum and generic system groups, respectively. Femoral abduction was highly correlated with anterior prostate displacement for both femurs in both groups (p tion introduced during simulation CT, particularly with the generic immobilization system. High degrees of femoral rotation may introduce prostate translation and distal misalignment of lateral proton beams with the prostate.
