Despite the presence of bye-laws, solid waste management continues to be an issue in Mbarara municipality with households and businesses continuing to dump solid waste on open plots, low-lying areas, public spaces and rivers, or simply burning it in their backyards. This qualitative study aimed at establishing reasons as to why there was still improper solid waste management in Mbarara municipality and also establishing its constraints. Tools used included semi-structured questionnaires, observation and photographs. Two hundred and ninety-four participants （24 solid waste collectors, eight municipal council members and 262 community members） participated in the study. The study revealed both insufficient budget （87.5%） and insufficient equipment （50%） as the most common policy challenges in implementing proper solid waste management. Solid waste collectors not being comfortable with their salaries （79.2%）, limited sensitization regarding solid waste management （66%） and limited necessary tools （58.3%） as other challenges faced by solid waste management policy makers and implementers and finally, community members having limited awareness about laws governing solid waste management （61.1%）. In conclusion, insufficient budget, insufficient equipment, poor motivation and inadequate sensitization were found to be the major reasons as to why there was still improper solid waste management in Mbarara municipality, western Uganda.

试验结果表明,与传统水肥相比较,传统灌溉-优化施肥冬小麦主茎上四叶叶片短小叶面积减少,叶片相对较厚,叶倾角大,株型紧凑,消光系数小,冠层各层透光率较高;优化灌溉-传统施肥冬小麦主茎上四叶叶片变长叶面积增加,叶片相对较薄,叶倾角小,株型较为披散,消光系数大,冠层各层透光率较低;优化水肥及秸秆还田优化水肥冬小麦主茎上四叶叶面积略微减少,叶片厚度、叶倾角、消光系数及各层透光率与传统水肥差异很小,株型较好;各处理间经济产量无显著性差异。

Wound infections can have devastating effects on healing as well as the health of the patient. Complications increase when the pathogens are capable of producing virulence factors and/or are drug resistant. Novel methods are needed to take on the challenges of treating such wounds. Drawtex®?dressing is purported to have hydroconductive properties that allow it to draw away debris and exudate from the wound into the dressing. The goal of this work is to better define these interactions of this experimental dressing with bacteria and virulence factors. Two series of in vitro experiments were performed. First, pieces of experimental dressing were submerged in a series of cultures in flasks and samples of the dressing and cultures were taken over 90 minutes and assayed for bacteria and virulence factor levels. Second, experimental or standard care (control) dressings were placed on selective agar plated with pathogens of interest. Dressings and the agar covered by them were used to quantify bacteria and virulence factors over time. The experimental dressing took up both bacteria and virulence factors to a larger extent than the control dressing. Experimental dressing significantly reduced the load of bacteria and virulence factors in cultures compared to control culture without dressing. Based on the ability of the dressing to take up bacteria and virulence factors in this study, the data point to the potential for this dressing to be similarly effective in reducing or eliminating pathogen from wounds, potentially increasing the chances of successful wound healing.

Wildlife trafficking is classified as the fourth largest illegal commerce in the world. Taxonomic identification of wildlife is an ordinary process for forensics experts. The aim of this study was to analyze animal’s hair from Brazilian’s wildlife through microscopic and compare morphology of bristle among species analyzed. Hair samples of nine species were analyzed. Glass slides were analyzed through optical microscopy and following measurements were obtained: total length, medulla diameter, overall diameter and overall ratio diameter of the medulla’s diameter. The images obtained at identification of animals through the morphology of hair and the statistics analysis corroborates in favor for the validation of the technique.

据我们所知,本文首次报道了一种小型集成光学敏感器,它基于多量子井(MQW)的微型环形激光器,用于陀螺系统.该器件能完全在单片上集成,可用于低(如陆地运载器)或高(如舰船、飞机及空载平台等)灵敏度的导航系统.该器件的模拟包括一些物理效应的影响,如量子噪声、闭锁、热效应及侧壁粗糙度引起的损耗等.根据陀螺的量子极限、可测速率工作区、工作热范围及功耗等指标,得到了很好的性能.相对其他现有光学解决方案,该结构明显具有许多优点:无偏振感应引起的噪声、无需使用频率锁定技术、忽略不计的弯曲损耗、较高的腔内品质因数、完整评价转动速度、可预测的陀螺标度因数、热变化及很高的动态范围等.
