Purpose:The goal of this study is a comparative analysis of the relation between funding(a main driver for scientific research)and citations in papers of Nobel Laureates in physics,chemistry and medicine over 2019-2020 and the same relation in these research fields as a ***/methodology/approach:This study utilizes a power law model to explore the relationship between research funding and citations of related *** study here analyzes 3,539 recorded documents by Nobel Laureates in physics,chemistry and medicine and a broader dataset of 183,016 documents related to the fields of physics,medicine,and chemistry recorded in the Web of Science ***:results reveal that in chemistry and medicine,funded researches published in papers of Nobel Laureates have higher citations than unfunded studies published in articles;vice versa high citations of Nobel Laureates in physics are for unfunded studies published in ***,when overall data of publications and citations in physics,chemistry and medicine are analyzed,all papers based on funded researches show higher citations than unfunded ***/value:results clarify the driving role of research funding for science diffusion that are systematized in general properties:a)articles concerning funded researches receive more citations than(un)funded studies published in papers of physics,chemistry and medicine sciences,generating a high Matthew effect(a higher growth of citations with the increase in the number of papers);b)research funding increases the citations of articles in fields oriented to applied research(e.g.,chemistry and medicine)more than fields oriented towards basic research(e.g.,physics).Practical implications:The results here explain some characteristics of scientific development and diffusion,highlighting the critical role of research funding in fostering citations and the expansion of scientific *** finding can support decision-making of policymakers and r&D mana

Modeling of flow and debris ejection in blasting erosion arc machining in end milling mode

Blasting erosion arc machining(BEAM)is a typical arc discharge machining technology that was developed around 2012 to improve the machinability of difficult-to-cut *** milling BEAM has been successfully developed and preliminarily applied in ***,owing to the high complexity of the flow field and the difficulty of observing debris in the discharge gap,studies of the flow and debris in end milling BEAM are *** this study,fluid dynamics simulations and particle tracking are used to investigate the flow characteristics and debris ejection processes in end milling ***,the end milling BEAM m o d e is *** the numerical modeling parameters,geometric models,and simulation methods are presented in ***,the flow distribution and debris ejection are described,analyzed,and *** velocity and pressure distributions of the axial feed and radial feed are observed;the rotation speed and milling depth are found to have almost no effect on the flow velocity ***,debris is ejected more rapidly in the radial feed than in the axial *** particle kinetic energy tends to increase with increasing milling depth,and smaller particles are more easily expelled from the flushing *** study attempts to reveal the flow field properties and debris ejection mechanism of end milling BEAM,which will be helpful in gaining a better understanding of BEAM.

The need for a complete dental autopsy of unidentified edentulous human remains

In December 2017,a decomposed unidentified body was found near the river Tronto in Teramo,*** corpse was found without any identifying documents or specific personal belongings,except for a packet of *** medical examiner determined a gastric perforation from the intake of hydrochloric acid to be the cause of death.A jar of muriatic acid found near the body led to suicide being considered the manner of *** Penal Court in Teramo appointed two forensic odontologists to complete the postmortem assessment and collect dental data for personal *** corpse was found wearing a complete set of upper and lower *** dental autopsy and 42 periapical X-ray images helped generate a biological profile of a man totally edentulous with upper and lower dentures,as well as an osteosynthesis with two plates and screws in the left ascending ramus of the *** March 2018,the sister of a missing person reported the disappearance of her brother,and a presumptive identification was performed through visual recognition of the decomposed *** sister confirmed the presence of two dentures and the location of the maxillo-facial surgery for the treatment of the fractured mandible.A complete dental autopsy was able to establish his identity without any DNA comparison *** case highlights the importance of performing a complete dental autopsy inclusive of dental radiographs,and its value in the identification of all unknown human remains even when totally edentulous.A complete dental autopsy should be performed in all cases of human identification.

General laws of funding for scientific citations:how citations change in funded and unfunded research between basic and applied sciences

Purpose:The goal of this study is to analyze the relationship between funded and unfunded papers and their citations in both basic and applied ***/methodology/approach:A power law model analyzes the relationship between research funding and citations of papers using 831,337 documents recorded in the Web of Science ***:The original results reveal general characteristics of the diffusion of science in research fields:a)Funded articles receive higher citations compared to unfunded papers in journals;b)Funded articles exhibit a super-linear growth in citations,surpassing the increase seen in unfunded *** finding reveals a higher diffusion of scientific knowledge in funded ***,c)funded articles in both basic and applied sciences demonstrate a similar expected change in citations,equivalent to about 1.23%,when the number of funded papers increases by 1%in *** result suggests,for the first time,that funding effect of scientific research is an invariant driver,irrespective of the nature of the basic or applied ***/value:This evidence suggests empirical laws of funding for scientific citations that explain the importance of robust funding mechanisms for achieving impactful research outcomes in science and *** findings here also highlight that funding for scientific research is a critical driving force in supporting citations and the dissemination of scientific knowledge in recorded documents in both basic and applied *** implications:This comprehensive result provides a holistic view of the relationship between funding and citation performance in science to guide policymakers and r&D managers with science policies by directing funding to research in promoting the scientific development and higher diffusion of results for the progress of human society.

Selenium containing macrocycles:transformation between Se-N/Se-S/Se-Se bonds

Macrocycles possess potential applications in supramolecular chemistry and biosystems. Thus development of new kinds of macrocycles is of significance. Herein, novel macrocycles containing Se-Se/Se-S bonds were synthesized via transformation between selenium related dynamic covalent bonds. A monomer containing two ebselen moieties was synthesized (M1). The Se-N bonds in M1 were reduced by dithiothreitol, forming Se-S linked dimer (D1). To realize the transformation from Se-S bonds to Se-Se bonds, guest molecules were added as template, triggering the formation of Se-Se linked dimer (D2). The formation of these two new kinds of macrocycles was determined by H-1 NMr and Se-77 NMr, and the necessity of guest molecules was also confirmed. The introduction of ebselen moieties and Se-S bonds or Se-Se bonds into macrocycles may endow it with new responsiveness and bioactivities, as well as new types of host-guest chemistry.

OBJECTIVE: To verify the action of non-pharmacological interventions, whole body vibration exercise (WBVE) and auriculotherapy (AT) on the management of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) analyzing the handgrip strength (HS). METHODS: One hundred twelve participants with KOA were allocated in (a) WBVE group with peak-to-peak displacement of 2.5 to 7.5 mm, frequency from 5 up to 14 Hz, acceleration peak from 0.12 up to 2.95 g (2 d/weekly for 5 weeks),(b) AT group, points of both ears (Kidney, Knee-correspondent point and Shenmen) were stimulated with seeds,(c) WBVE + AT group and (d) respective control groups. HS was assessed in all the participants, in acute and cumulative responses. rESULTS: The intervention with WBVE alone and combined with AT improved (P response, the HS. CONCLUSION: WBVE alone or combined with AT might promote biological effects that interfere with the HS in individuals with KOA.

Stability and scour development of bed material on crossbar block ramps
