General laws of funding for scientific citations:how citations change in funded and unfunded research between basic and applied sciences

Purpose:The goal of this study is to analyze the relationship between funded and unfunded papers and their citations in both basic and applied ***/methodology/approach:A power law model analyzes the relationship between research funding and citations of papers using 831,337 documents recorded in the Web of Science ***:The original results reveal general characteristics of the diffusion of science in research fields:a)Funded articles receive higher citations compared to unfunded papers in journals;b)Funded articles exhibit a super-linear growth in citations,surpassing the increase seen in unfunded *** finding reveals a higher diffusion of scientific knowledge in funded ***,c)funded articles in both basic and applied sciences demonstrate a similar expected change in citations,equivalent to about 1.23%,when the number of funded papers increases by 1%in *** result suggests,for the first time,that funding effect of scientific research is an invariant driver,irrespective of the nature of the basic or applied ***/value:This evidence suggests empirical laws of funding for scientific citations that explain the importance of robust funding mechanisms for achieving impactful research outcomes in science and *** findings here also highlight that funding for scientific research is a critical driving force in supporting citations and the dissemination of scientific knowledge in recorded documents in both basic and applied *** implications:This comprehensive result provides a holistic view of the relationship between funding and citation performance in science to guide policymakers and R&D managers with science policies by directing funding to research in promoting the scientific development and higher diffusion of results for the progress of human society.

Macrocycles possess potential applications in supramolecular chemistry and biosystems. Thus development of new kinds of macrocycles is of significance. Herein, novel macrocycles containing Se-Se/Se-S bonds were synthesized via transformation between selenium related dynamic covalent bonds. A monomer containing two ebselen moieties was synthesized (M1). The Se-N bonds in M1 were reduced by dithiothreitol, forming Se-S linked dimer (D1). To realize the transformation from Se-S bonds to Se-Se bonds, guest molecules were added as template, triggering the formation of Se-Se linked dimer (D2). The formation of these two new kinds of macrocycles was determined by H-1 NMR and Se-77 NMR, and the necessity of guest molecules was also confirmed. The introduction of ebselen moieties and Se-S bonds or Se-Se bonds into macrocycles may endow it with new responsiveness and bioactivities, as well as new types of host-guest chemistry.

Each year,accidents involving ships result in significant loss of life,environmental pollution and economic *** promotion of navigation safety through risk reduction requires methods to assess the spatial distribution of the relative likelihood of ***,such methods necessitate the integration of large volumes of heterogenous datasets which are not well suited to traditional data *** paper proposes the use of the Discrete Global Grid System(DGGS)as an efficient and advantageous structure to integrate vessel traffic,metocean,bathymetric,infrastructure and other relevant maritime datasets to predict the occurrence of ship *** and heterogenous datasets are well suited for machine learning algorithms and this paper develops a spatial maritime risk model based on a DGGS utilising such an approach.A Random Forest algorithm is developed to predict the frequency and spatial distribution of groundings while achieving an R2 of 0.55 and a mean squared error of *** resulting risk maps are useful for decision-makers in planning the allocation of mitigation measures,targeted to regions with the highest *** work is identified to expand the applications and insights which could be achieved through establishing a DGGS as a global maritime spatial data structure.

One of the major concerns for the prescription of medications containing testosterone(T)in the aging men with T deficiency(TD)is prostate disorders(such as benign prostatic hyperplasia,BPH)and their related symptoms(lower urinary tract symptoms,LUTS).This is because prostate is an androgen-responsive gland;however,the androgen dependence of prostate growth,well demonstrated in earlier phases of life,has no clear evidence in late adulthood and *** fact,after the age of 40 years,BPH becomes increasingly more *** the other hand,in men older than 40 year,a progressive decline in T is *** epidemiological data are a starting point for questioning a putative detrimental role of T on the prostate health in the ageing man.
