Cell-Phone Recycling by Solvolysis for Recovery of Metals

Mobile phones represent a significant and growing problem with respect to electrical waste and electronic equipment (WEEE). Nevertheless, they are perhaps one of the most valuable electronic products, since they are an important resource for the recovery of metals in terms of mass and volume. In this research a chemical recycling of mobile phones by solvolysis was investigated. The processing was performed by comminution in a hammer mill followed by screening to obtain mesh-4 sized flakes. Flakes were subjected to solvolysis. Different reaction conditions were tested. A reaction time between 2 - 7 hours and a temperature between 150°C - 300°C were the optimum conditions to dissolve the polymer contained in mobile phones. Metals were separated by filtration. Chemical analyses (ATR FT-IR, UV) were carried out on the solvent and the mobile phone flakes before and after solvolysis. A SEM study was carried out, before and after solvolysis, but only to the mobile phone flakes. Thermal transitions of mobile phone flakes were determined by DSC. Chemical results showed that some aromatic species migrate from mobile phones flakes to the solvent, due to the solvolysis reaction. Thermal analysis showed that the Tg, (glass transition temperature) of mobile phone flakes after solvolysis was different to Tg of the polymer before solvolysis, this is due to chemical changes in the molecule. A comparative SEM study revealed that, after solvolysis, the polymer contained in mobile phone flakes is more elastomeric. After solvolysis, solvent was recovered by means of a rotatory evaporator, so that it can be used again. The results obtained in this research showed that solvolysis is an alternative for metal recovery from mobile phones.

Efficient metallization of magnetite concentrate by reduction with agave bagasse as a source of reducing agents

The reduction behavior and metallization degree of magnetite concentrate with agave bagasse were investigated in an inert *** effects of temperature,biomass content,and residence time on reduction experiments and metallization degree were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron *** with other types of biomass,agave bagasse had lower contents of nitrogen,sulfur,and ash.X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the metallization degree improved with increasing temperature and biomass *** metallization was achieved at 1100℃ for 30 min with 65:35 and 50:50 ratios of the magnetite concentrate to the agave *** results demonstrate that agave bagasse promotes the efficient metallization of magnetite concentrate without the external addition of a reducing ***,this biomass is a technical suitable alternative to replace fossil fuels in steelmaking.

Cells,tissues,and organs are constantly subjected to the action of mechanical forces from the extracellular environment-and the nervous system is no ***-intrinsic properties such as membrane lipid composition,abundance of mechanosensors,and cytoskeletal dynamics make cells more or less likely to sense these *** and extrinsic cues are integrated by cells and this combined information determines the rate and dynamics of membrane protrusion growth or retraction(Yamada and Sixt,2019).Cell protrusions are extensions of the plasma membrane that play crucial roles in diverse contexts such as cell migration and neuronal synapse *** the nervous system,neurons are highly dynamic cells that can change the size and number of their pre-and postsynaptic elements(called synaptic boutons and dendritic spines,respectively),in response to changes in the levels of synaptic activity through a process called *** plasticity is a hallmark of the nervous system and is present throughout our lives,being required for functions like memory formation or the learning of new motor skills(Minegishi et al.,2023;Pillai and Franze,2024).

In this work, with the purpose to explore the coordination chemistry of calcium complexes which could work as a partial model of manganese-calcium cluster, a spectrophotometric study to evaluate the stability of the complexes: Calcium(Ⅱ)-1,2-ethylendiamine, Calcium(Ⅱ)-1,3-propanediamine and Calcium(Ⅱ)-1,4-butanediamine in acetonitrile, were carried on. By processing the spectrophotometric data with the HypSpec program allows the determination of the formation constants. The logarithmic values of the formation constants obtained for Calcium(Ⅱ)-1,2-ethylendiamine, Calcium(Ⅱ)-1,3-propanediamine and Calcium(Ⅱ)-1,4-butanediamine were log β_(110) = 4.69, log β_(110)= 5.25 and log β_(110) = 4.072, respectively.

Aim:It remains unclear what the best therapeutic option for recurrent glioma patients after Stupp treatment ***(BVZ)is commonly administered in progression,but it appears that only some patients *** would be useful to find biomarkers that determine beforehand who these patients ***:The protocol included 31 high-risk progressing glioma patients after Stupp treatment who received BVZ 5-10 mg/kg every 14 days and temozolomide(3-19 cycles,150-200 mg five days each 28-day cycle)during a mean of eight cycles of BVZ or until tumor progression or unacceptable *** analyzed the clinical outcome values of inflammatory indices measured before BVZ ***:Lymphocyte level before BVZ administration was the best independent predictor of overall survival(HR=0.34;95%CI:0.145-0.81;P=0.015).The area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was 0.823,with 1.645 being the optimal cut-off value,and 0.80 and 0.85 the sensitivity and specificity values,*** and non-responder survival curves were also significantly different,considering the first and second tertiles as cut-off *** number of BVZ cycles was not related to *** neutrophil platelet levels,platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR),and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)did not have independent predictive *** variables were not correlated with each ***,patients with high NLR and PLR simultaneously(double positive PLR-NLR)showed a worse clinical outcome than the rest(P=0.043).Conclusion:Pretreatment lymphocyte levels and double positive PLR-NLR could be used as non-invasive hematological prognostic markers for recurrent gliomas treated with bevacizumab.A close relationship emerged between inflammation and angiogenesis.

Advantages of Using a Spell Checker in Text Mining Pre-Processes

The aim of this work was the behavior analysis when a spell checker was integrated as an extra pre-process during the first stage of the test mining. Different models were analyzed, choosing the most complete one considering the pre-processes as the initial part of the text mining process. Algorithms for the Spanish language were developed and adapted, as well as for the methodology testing through the analysis of 2363 words. A capable notation for removing special and unwanted characters was created. Execution times of each algorithm were analyzed to test the efficiency of the text mining pre-process with and without orthographic revision. The total time was shorter with the spell-checker than without it. The key difference of this work among the existing related studies is the first time that the spell checker is used in the text mining preprocesses.

Long-term monitoring reveals the effect of precipitation and silviculture on Nothofagus regeneration in Northern Patagonia mixed forests

Background Tree regeneration is a key component of resilience because it promotes post-disturbance recovery of forests. Northwestern Patagonia from Argentina is occupied by Nothofagus alpina（Na）, N. obliqua（No）, and N. dombeyi（Nd） forests that grow along an intense precipitation gradient, managed throughout shelterwood silvicultural system by technicians of the Lanin Natural Reserve. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of seeding cuttings over the dynamics of Nothofagus mixed forests across landscape（precipitation gradient） based mainly on the composition and abundance of tree regeneration, permanent sampling plots and generalized linear mixed models. In particular, we analysed:（i） the structure of sexual and asexual regeneration during 20 years after harvest（the dynamics of managed forests）, and（ii） the structure of sexual regeneration in primary and managed forests after > 20 years of harvest（the effect of silviculture）.Results Nd was the most abundant species in the regeneration of managed forests during all periods in both sites despite its lower contribution to the adult cohort. During the 10–20 years period after harvest, the humid site exhibited higher regeneration density than the mesic site(120,000 and 6000 ind ha-1, respectively), and it decreased afterwards. The number of established regeneration（> 2 m height） was lower for Na in the mesic site and for No in the humid site(0 and 57 ind ha-1, respectively). However, in comparison to No, Na showed a higher number of sprouted stumps and sprouts per stump, and a higher sprout height in the mesic site. No exhibited higher sprout mortality in the humid site. Finally, the regeneration of primary forests showed lower density and height, and a more balanced composition than that of managed *** The silvicultural effects on the mixed forest regeneration dynamics was strongly influenced by the condition of sites.
