Currently,the most cost-effective and efficient method for phosphorus(P)removal from wastewater is enhanced biological P removal(EPBR)via polyphosphate-accumulating organisms(PAOs).This study integrates a literature review with genomic analysis to uncover the phylogenetic and metabolic diversity of the relevant PAOs for wastewater *** findings highlight significant differences in the metabolic capabilities of PAOs relevant to wastewater ***,Candidatus Dechloromonas and Candidatus Accumulibacter can synthesize polyhydroxyalkanoates,possess specific enzymes for ATP production from polyphosphate,and have electrochemical transporters for acetate and *** contrast,Tetrasphaera,Candidatus Phosphoribacter,Knoellia,and Phycicoccus possess PolyP-glucokinase and electrochemical transporters for sugars/amino ***,this review explores various detection methods for polyphosphate and PAOs in activated sludge wastewater treatment ***,FISH-Raman spectroscopy emerges as one of the most advanced detection ***,this review provides critical insights into PAO research,underscoring the need for enhanced strategies in biological phosphorus removal.

Nosocomial infections affect implanted medical devices and greatly challenge their functional outcomes,becoming sometimes life threatening for the ***,aggressive antibiotic therapies are administered,which often require the use of last-resort drugs,if the infection is caused by multi-drug-resistant *** the risk of bacterial contamination of medical devices in the hospitals has thus become an emerging *** routes to control these infections are based on materials provided with intrinsic bactericidal properties(i.e.,chemical action)and on the design of surface coatings able to limit bacteria adhesion and fouling phenomena(i.e.,physical action),thus preventing bacterial biofilm ***,we report the development and validation of coatings made of layer-by-layer deposition of electrospun poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-trifluoro ethylene)P(VDF-TrFE)fibers with controlled orientations,which ultimately gave rise to antifouling *** obtained 10-layer surface morphology with 90°orientation fibers was able to efficiently prevent the adhesion of bacteria,by establishing a superhydrophobic-like behavior compatible with the Cassie-Baxter ***,the results highlighted that surface wettability and bacteria adhesion could be controlled using fibers with diameter comparable to bacteria size(i.e.,achievable via electrospinning process),by tuning the intra-fiber spacing,with relevant implications in the future design of biomedical surface coatings.

Electro-assisted photocatalytic reduction of CO_(2) in ambient air using Ag/TNTAs at the gas-solid interface

The direct conversion of atmospheric CO_(2) into fuel via photocatalysis exhibits significant practical application value in advancing the carbon *** this study,we established an electro-assisted photocatalytic system with dual compartments and interfaces,and coated Ag nanoparticles on the titanium nanotube arrays(TNTAs)by polydopamine *** the absence of sacrificial agent and alkali absorption liquid conditions,the stable,efficient and highly selective conversion of CO_(2) to CO at the gas-solid interface in ambient air was realized by photoelectric ***,with the assistance of potential,the CO formation rates reached 194.9μmol h^(−1) m^(−2) and 103.9μmol h^(−1) m^(−2) under ultraviolet and visible light irradiation,respectively;the corresponding CO_(2) conversion rates in ambient air were 30%and 16%,*** excellent catalytic effect is mainly attributed to the formation of P–N heterojunction during the catalytic process and the surface plasmon resonance ***,the introduction of solid agar electrolytes effectively inhibits the hydrogen evolution reaction and improves the electron utilization *** system promotes the development of photocatalytic technology for practical applications and provides new insights and support for the carbon cycle.
