Impact of radiative cooling on the energy performance of courtyards in Mediterranean climate

Radiative cooling has proven to be a useful tool to address the problems of lack of comfort and excessive energy consumption in situations of high temperatures,overheating and heat ***,incorporating courtyards in warm climate zones has been found to be highly beneficial in addressing similar ***,there is interest in analyzing the combined effects of both:radiative cooling and *** paper presents an analysis of the impact of the application of radiative cooling on a courtyard using a comprehensive simulation approach that includes a CFD model for the thermodynamic airflow in the adjacent roofs and inside the courtyard,equations for the transient heat conduction through roofs,walls and courtyard slabs,and a hybrid raytracing-radiosity model for the evaluation of the solar radiation reaching the building surfaces and its reflections,both of specular and diffuse origin,and for the calculation of the thermal radiation exchange,especially with the *** results show that in the hot season,the courtyard with radiative cooling always provides lower temperatures than the initial courtyard does,with a temperature range of 18.33℃to 33.78℃,compared to a range of 19.32℃to 38.00℃in the initial courtyard,and producing a greater difference with outdoor temperatures that can reach 12℃versus 8℃for the reference *** addition,it was found that the courtyard with radiative cooling is able to significantly reduce the observed nighttime overheating by providing lower temperatures than the outdoor temperatures in the 50%of the nights *** was also found that the thermal loads to achieve indoor thermal comfort in the spaces adjacent to the courtyard were reduced by 63.46%to 69.85%.

Helicobacter pylori and skin autoimmune diseases

Autoimmune skin diseases are characterized by dysregulation of the immune system resulting in a loss of tolerance to skin self-antigen(s). The prolonged interaction between the bacterium and host immune mechanisms makes Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) a plausible infectious agent for triggering autoimmunity. Epidemiological and experimental data now point to a strong relation of H. pylori infection on the development of many extragastric diseases, including several allergic and autoimmune diseases. H. pylori antigens activate cross-reactive T cells and induce autoantibodies production. Microbial heat shock proteins(HSP) play an important role of in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases because of the high level of sequence homology with human HSP. Eradication of H. pylori infection has been shown to be effective in some patients with chronic autoimmune urticaria, psoriasis, alopecia areata and Schoenlein-Henoch purpura. There is conflicting and controversial data regarding the association of H. pylori infection with Beh et's disease, scleroderma and autoimmune bullous diseases. No data are available evaluating the association of H. pylori infection with other skin autoimmune diseases, such as vitiligo, cutaneous lupus erythematosus and dermatomyositis. The epidemiological and experimental evidence for a possible role of H. pylori infection in skin autoimmune diseases are the subject of this review.

In this paper,we analyse an analytical solution of the Einstein–Maxwell field equations that considers matter with anisotropic pressures in a static and spherically symmetric *** report the manner in which we obtained the solution,which is by means of the Karmarkar *** the model,we assume a state equation that describes the interaction of matter from quarks P=(c^(2)ρ-4B_(g))/3 and we consider the presence of electric charge,which can generate that the radial and tangential pressures are not *** a graphic manner,we analyse the physical properties of the model,taking as the observational data those of mass 1M⊙and radius7.69 km which were reported for the star Her *** charge values are found between 5.57×10^(18)C≤Q≤1.31×10^(20)C and the interval of the Bag constant Bg∈[118.7,122.13]MeV/fm^(3).Also,we show the stability of the configuration by means of the static stability criteria of Harrison–Zeldovich–Novikov((?M)/?ρc>0),as well as in regards to infinitesimal radial adiabatic perturbation,since the adiabatic indexγ>3.3 which guarantees the stability of the solution.

Pathways of Phosphorus Absorption and Early Signaling between the Mycorrhizal Fungi and Plants

This review highlights the key role that mycorrhizal fungi play in making phosphorus(Pi)more available to plants,including pathways of phosphorus absorption,phosphate transporters and plant-mycorrhizal fungus symbiosis,especially in conditions where the level of inorganic phosphorus(Pi)in the soil is *** fungi colonization involves a series of signaling where the plant root exudates strigolactones,while the mycorrhizal fungi release a mixture of chito-oligosaccharides and liposaccharides,that activate the symbiosis process through gene signaling pathways,and contact between the hyphae and the *** the symbiosis is established,the extraradical mycelium acts as an extension of the roots and increases the absorption of nutrients,particularly phosphorus by the phosphate *** then moves along the hyphae to the plant root/fungus *** transfer of Pi occurs in the apoplectic space;in the case of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi,Pi is discharged from the arbuscular to the plant’s root symplasm,in the membrane that surrounds the *** is then absorbed through the plant periarbuscular membrane by plant phosphate ***,plants can acquire Pi from soil as a direct absorption *** a result of this review,several genes that codify for high-affinity Pi transporters were *** plants,the main family is Pht1 although it is possible to find others such as Pht2,Pht3,Pho1 and *** in plants,mycorrhizal fungi have genes belonging to the Pht1 *** arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi we found L1PT1,GiPT,MtPT1,MtPT2,MtPT4,HvPT8,ZmPht1,TaPTH1.2,GmosPT and ***1,HcPT2 and BePT have been characterized in ectomycorrhizal *** gene has a different way of expressing *** this review,we present diagrams of the symbiotic relationship between mycorrhizal fungi and the *** knowledge allows us to design solutions to regional problems such as food production in soils with low levels of Pi.

Growth and yield of nine pine species in Angola

A species introduction experiment including several tropical pines and eucalypts was established in 1966/1967 in the Tchianga research station in Angolan Highlands. Despite 27 years of political conflict （1975-2002） and lack of management, the research experiment has remained relatively well conserved. We measured the best conserved plots that were 41 years old in 2007 to obtain information on the growth of different pine species. We calculated stand characteristics including basal area, dominant height, mean diameter, and stand volume for Pinus patula Schiede ex Schiltdl. Et Cham., Pinus pseudostrobus Lindl., Pinus kesiya Royle ex Gordon, Pinus devoniana Lindl., Pinus chiapensis （Martinez） Andresen, Pinus elliottii Engelm., Pinus greggii Engelm. Ex Parl., Pinus montezumae Lamb. and Pinus oocarpa Schiede ex Schltdl. The growing stock volume at 41 years was the highest in P. pseudostrobus, 1,325 m3^· ha^-1, followed by P. kesiya with 1,200 m^3· ha^-1. The widely planted P. patula had growing stock volume of 892 m^3· ha-^1. P. oocarpa and P. pseudostrobus had the highest stand basal area, over 80 m^2·ha^-1. Using increment core analyses we studied the temporal development of stand characteristics. Analysis of the mean annual increment （MAI） showed that rotation lengths of 20-30 years would maximize wood production. With these rotation lengths, the MAI of P. pseudostrobus would be 35 m^3· ha^-1. Other productive species were P. kesiya, P. ooearpa and P. chiapensis. P. patula had a maximum MAI of 20 m^3· ha^-1. P. greggii had the lowest mean annual volume production, only about 13 m^3· ha^-1.

Therapies such as direct tension-free microsurgical repair or transplantation of a nerve autograft,are nowadays used to treat traumatic peripheral nerve injuries（PNI）,focused on the enhancement of the intrinsic regenerative potential of injured ***,these therapies fail to recreate the suitable cellular and molecular microenvironment of peripheral nerve repair and in some cases,the functional recovery of nerve injuries is ***,new biomedical engineering strategies based on tissue engineering approaches through molecular intervention and scaffolding offer promising outcomes on the *** this sense,evidence is accumulating in both,preclinical and clinical settings,indicating that platelet-rich plasma products,and fibrin scaffold obtained from this technology,hold an important therapeutic potential as a neuroprotective,neurogenic and neuroinflammatory therapeutic modulator system,as well as enhancing the sensory and motor functional nerve muscle unit recovery.

Indicator kriging （IK） is a spatial interpolation technique devised for estimating a conditional cumulative distribution function at an unsampled location. The result is a discrete approximation, and its corresponding estimated probability density function can be viewed as a composition in the simplex. This fact suggested a compositional approach to IK which, by construction, avoids all its standard drawbacks （negative predictions, not-ordered or larger than one）. Here, a simple algorithm to develop the procedure is presented.

Effect of grain recrystallization on stir zone and mechanical property behavior of TRIP 780 steel

Electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD)and transmission electron microscopy were used to determine the presence of retained austenite and displacive-type phase transformation in the stir zone of friction stir welding(FSW).Severe plastic deformations occurred in the stir zone where there was an increase in the temperature attributed to the FSW process and subsequently a grain *** the recrystallization phenomena,the formation of grain evolution development in steels was resolved using *** addition,a tensile test was carried out in order to reveal the results of mechanical *** was found that the fracture zone occurred in the stir zone with an ultimate tensile strength of 587 MPa,a decrease of 267 MPa compared with that of the base *** this result,it is evident that the fracture exhibits numerous elongated dimples,distributed homogeneously,and certain locations contain cleavage fractures due to differences in the microstructure of the base *** profile tests of the welding regions were conducted,and the results showed that the stir zone was present with elevated hardness(near 350 HV).Characterization techniques revealed that the austenite-to-martensite transformation occurred in the stir zone,resulting in a loss of mechanical properties in the joint.

Dissolved Organic Nitrogen in Mediterranean Ecosystems

Dissolved organic nitrogen （DON） in soils has recently gained increasing interest because it may be both a direct N source for plants and the dominant available N form in nutrient-poor soils, however, its prevalence in Mediterranean ecosystems remains unclear. The aims of this study were to i） estimate soil DON in a wide set of Mediterranean ecosystems and compare this levels with those for other ecosystems; ii） describe temporal changes in DON and dissolved inorganic nitrogen （DIN） forms （NH＋ and NO3）, and characterize spatial heterogeneity within plant communities; and iii） study the relative proportion of soil DON and DIN forms as a test of Schimel and Bennett＇s hypothesis that the prevalence of different N forms follows a gradient of nutrient availability. The study was carried out in eleven plant communities chosen to represent a wide spectrum of Mediterranean vegetation types, ranging from early to late successional status. DON concentrations in the studied Mediterranean plant communities （0-18.2 mg N kg-1） were consistently lower than those found in the literature for other ecosystems. We found high temporal and spatial variability in soil DON for all plant communities. As predicted by the Schimel and Bennett model for nutrient-poor ecosystems, DON dominance over ammonium and nitrate was observed for most plant communities in winter and spring soil samples. However, mineral-N dominated over DON in summer and autumn. Thus, soil water content may have an important effect on DON versus mineral N dominance in Mediterranean ecosystems
