Poultry litter biochar application in combination with chemical fertilizer and Azolla green manure improves rice grain yield and nitrogen use efficiency in paddy soil

Poultry litter biochar is known to improve crop ***,its beneficial interactions with chemical fertilizer and/or organic manure on rice yield and nitrogen(N)use efficiency(NUE)are not well *** objective of this study was to co-apply poultry litter biochar(hereinafter biochar)and chemical fertilizer and/or Azolla as organic manure(herein N fertilizer sources)to improve the productivity of rice and *** treatments-no amendments(control),chemical fertilizer(NPK),Azolla as green manure(Azolla),and NPK+Azolla without and with biochar amendment-were evalu-ated in a pot *** rice plant growth components,yield,and NUE were *** to the treatments without biochar,co-application of biochar and N fertilizer sources significantly improved grain N uptake by 23.9%and NUE by 34.3-246.9%.These treatments also significantly improved rice growth components(5.6-18.2%)and grain yield(32.4%).Significant changes in soil properties including increases in pH,electrical conductivity(EC),total N,organic car-bon,and available phosphorus were observed following biochar *** for the soil pH and EC parameters,no significant synergistic interactions between biochar and N fertilizer sources were observed for any parameters in the present ***,compared to other treatments,the co-application of biochar and Azolla offers a feasible approach to improve rice productivity and NUE and reduce chemical fertilizer use,thereby reducing agricultural pollution and production costs.

Introduction: Oral health management is often difficult in patients after surgical tumor resection and/or radiotherapy due to defects, bulky flaps, limitation of tongue movement, and trismus. In addition, patients who have undergone radiotherapy have serious disabilities such as oral mucositis, mucosal weakening, soft tissue fibrosis, salivary gland disorder, and osteoradionecrosis. Dental hygienists must understand the characteristics of patients after surgical tumor resection and/or radiotherapy. In this report, the oral health management of three patients after maxillectomy, mandibulectomy, and radiotherapy was shown. Case Description: Case 1: A 53-year-old male patient visited our clinic after chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and partial maxillectomy for cancer of the right maxillary gingiva. Case 2: A 65-year-old male patient visited our clinic after radiotherapy for a right-sided tongue cancer, partial mandibulectomy of the right tongue to the oropharynx, a right-sided segmental mandibulectomy and a speech aid and a mandibular prosthesis were provided. Case 3: A 36-year-old female visited our clinic for radiotherapy for left-sided tongue cancer. Dental hygienists provided oral health management to the patients. In oral health management, it was suggested that intervention before cancer treatment, oral hygiene instructions tailored to patients’ symptoms, and frequent professional care are important. Conclusion: Oral health management by dental hygienists is extremely important for patients undergoing maxillofacial cancer treatment to maintain their quality of life in the long term.

Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells(MSCs)are adult stem cells of stromal origin that possess self-renewal capacity and the ability to differentiate into multiple mesodermal cell *** play a critical role in tissue homeostasis and wound healing,as well as in regulating the inammatory microenvironment through interactions with immune ***,MSCs have garnered great attention as promising candidates for tissue regeneration and cell *** the inflammatory niche plays a key role in triggering the reparative and immunomodulatory functions of MSCs,priming of MSCs with bioactive molecules has been proposed as a way to foster the therapeutic potential of these *** this paper,we review how soluble mediators of the inflammatory niche(cytokines and alarmins)influence the regenerative and immunomodulatory capacity of MSCs,highlighting the major advantages and concerns regarding the therapeutic potential of these inflammatory primed *** data summarized in this review may provide a significant starting point for future research on priming MSCs and establishing standardized methods for the application of preconditioned MSCs in cell therapy.

Performance of Tannin/Glycerol-Chromate Hybrid Conversion Coating on Aluminium

A smart hybrid conversion coating has been developed. Modifications of coating solutions with poly-hydroxyl organic materials to reduce the usual mud cracking pattern characteristics of chromate conversion coatings (CCCs) and improve its ability to release inhibitors to corroding sites have been achieved. The smart functionalised chromate conversion coating (SFCCC), developed on aluminium substrate has undergone laboratory checks and commercial runs under factory conditions confirmed its potency in improving corrosion resistance and paint adhesion to metal surfaces. In-service performance of the coating in the past three years is excellent.

Synthesis of zeolite-magadiite composites＂ Effects of co-solvent and aluminum source

The one-pot synthesis of ZSM-5-magadiite, ZSM-23-magadiite, and ZSM-5-ZSM-23-magadiite using isopropylamine and 2-propanol as an organic structure-directing agent and co-solvent, respectively, was studied. Zeolite mixtures were prepared by adding 2-propanol （0 to 10wt%） to the reaction solu- tion. The intergrowth of composites was observed when 2-propanol was introduced as a co-solvent into the reaction mixture. Synthesized samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field-emission scan- ning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The results revealed that the amount of 2-propanol and source of aluminum influenced the nature of the zeolite-magadiite composites formed.

Checkpoint with forkhead-associated and ring finger promoter hypermethylation correlates with microsatellite instability in gastric cancer

AIM:To examine the methylation status of the promoter region of the checkpoint with forkhead-associated and ring fi nger(CHFR) and microsatellite mutator status in 59 primary gastric ***:We investigated the promoter methylation of CHFR in 59 cases of gastric cancer using methylation-specifi c *** microsatellite loci were analyzed using high-intensity microsatellite analysis reported previously, and p53 gene mutations were investigated by direct ***:Twenty cases(33.9%) showed promoter methylation and no relation was observed with the clinicopathological *** found that the promoter methylation of CHFR was frequently accompanied with microsatellite instability(MIN).Seven of 20(35.0%) cases showed MIN in hypermethylation of the CHFR tumor, while three of 39(7.7%) cases showed MIN in the non-methylated CHFR tumor(P < 0.01).However, we failed to fi nd any relationship between CHFR methylation and p53 mutation ***:The coordinated loss of both the mitotic check point function and mismatch repair system suggests the potential to overcome the cell cycle check point, which may lead to an accumulation of ***, the p53 mutation was not related to hypermethylation of the CHFR promoter and MIN, which indicates that an abnormality in p53 occurs as an independent process from the mismatch repair deficiency in carcinogenesis.

Relationship between Turbid Water and Coral Damage Distribution Using ALOS AVNIR-2 Images and Diving Survey Data Immediately after the Heavy Rain Disaster of the Amami-Oshima Island, Japan

To understand the relationship between turbid water and coral damage caused by the heavy rain disaster at the end of October 2010 in Amami-Oshima, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, turbid water and coral damage distribution monitoring was attempted using satellite imagery and a diving survey immediately after the disaster. ALOS AVNIR-2 images (spatial resolution: 10 m) on October 6 (before the disaster), October 24, October 30, and October 31 (after the disaster) were obtained as satellite data in 2010. The red-silt deposition index (RSI) map based on the method by Nadaoka and Tamura (1992) was also created. Moreover, a diving survey was conducted via the spot check method on December 18, 2010. As a result, comparison between the high turbidity (RSI) areas estimated using AVNIR-2 data and the coral damage areas judging from the field survey was considered relatively light. It is shown that satellite data such as AVNIR-2 can be a powerful tool to monitor damage distribution of coral reefs after heavy rain.

Corrosion Inhibition of Mild Steel in Hydrochloric Acid by Tannins Rom Rhizophora Racemosa

Studies on the corrosion behaviour of mild steel electrodes in inhibited hydrochloric acid are described. Conventional weight loss measurements show that a maximum concentration of 140 ppm of tannin from Rhizophora racemosa is required to achieve 72% corrosion inhibition. Similar concentration of tannin: H3PO4 in ratio 1:1 gave 61% inhibition efficiency, whereas efficiency obtained for phosphoric acid as inhibitor in the same environment was 55%. Corrosion rates obtained over six hours of exposure in 1M HCl solution at inhibitor concentrations of 140 ppm are 2 mA/cm2, 2.4 mA/cm2, 2.6 mA/cm2 and 6 mA/cm2 for tannin, tannin/H3PO4 and H3PO4-inhibited and uninhibited specimens respectively. Natural atmospheric exposure studies revealed that specimens treated in H3PO4 resisted corrosion for three weeks, while tannin treated specimens suffered corrosion attack after one week of exposure tests.
