Retention Factors for Trace Metal elements in Solid Phase and Applicable Adsorption Models: Case of <i>Moringa oleifera</i>

Moringa oleifera is an edible plant cultivated throughout the tropical belt. It belongs to the family Moringaceae and is one of its 14 known species. This paper presents a synthesis of the main factors responsible for the retention of trace metal elements (TMEs) by Moringa oleifera seed powder, a natural adsorbent. The five main factors studied are metal concentration, solution pH, adsorbent particle size, adsorbent dose and adsorbent/adsorbate contact time. Through these factors, we present the optimal conditions for removal of these TMEs, as well as adsorption isotherm models appropriate for the conditions of retention of these metal cations by the adsorbent. The times of 20 min (GD) and 50 min (GND) are the equilibrium times obtained in our study. An optimal adsorbent mass (GD and GND powders) of 4.5 g was found. 20% to 97% abatement is observed for average pH values between 6 and 8. In this work, an inexpensive and environmentally friendly natural adsorbent obtained from shelled (Gd) and unshelled (GNd) Moringa oleifera seeds was used for copper adsorption from aqueous solutions. A series of experiments were performed to assess the parameters influencing the adsorption phenomenon such as pH, adsorbent mass, adsorption equilibrium time and temperature. The kinetic results of adsorption described a pseudo-second order model. The adsorption isotherms are satisfactorily described by the Langmuir mathematical model. The thermodynamic data revealed a spontaneous and endothermic adsorption phenomenon. The level of copper in surface water before and after addition of moringa powders was carried out to verify the effectiveness of the adsorbent. A maximum adsorption rate of 51.28% and 61.96% was obtained with Gd and GNd powders respectively. Moringa oleiferae="font-family:""> seed powders are an effective alternative for the removal of copper from surface water.

The present work aims to study the influence of some physicochemical parameters (light, temperature, ethanol, bile salts, potassium hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide) on the content of Metronidazole (MTZ) contained in the reference substance (SR) and in a pharmaceutical specialty Flagyl® 250 mg tablet (FLG). The method developed was linear and accurate in accordance with USP 38 and the MTZ contents were obtained by UV-visible spectrophotometry at 278 nm. These contents ranged from 225 mg to 275 mg and were thus consistent with the concentration present in the proprietary medicines (250 mg). The study of the influence of physicochemical parameters on the MTZ content in SR and FLG showed that MTZ contents are unstable in the presence of ethanol at 96˚, KOH at 0.1N and bile salts but also when the temperature is higher than 25˚C. However, they remain stable in the presence of light and H2O2 and undergo degradation in an acidic environment.

Influence of Some Physico-Chemical exposure Factors on the Carbocysteine Content of an Opened Pharmaceutical Product

The aim of this study was to investigate the stability of Carbocysteine (CBC) contained in a reference substance (RS) and in a sample of opened RHINATHIOL® 5% syrup (RNTL 5%) under the effect of some physicochemical parameters (temperature, light, time, pH, bile salts). The developed method was linear, precise and accurate according to USP 38. The co-efficient of determination R2 for linearity was 0.9993. The respective RSd of intra-day and inter-day between days (1st, 2nd and 3rd day) were respectively 0.338% and the interval from 0.05% to 0.387%. The average recovery rate ranged from 98.490% to 100.450%. The detection and quantification limits were 0.0001 mg/mL and 0.001 mg/mL respectively. The method was applied to four samples of opened syrup containing CBC and the CBC content in these samples was found to be in accordance with USP 38. The CBC content in the opened sample of RNTL 5% was obtained by UV-visible spectrophotometry at 217 nm and was 4.887 g/100mL. The study of the influence of physico-chemical factors on the content of CBC in RS and RNTL 5% showed that the evolution of CBC contents in each drug matrix remained dependent on pH and temperature. However, these levels remained stable in the presence of light.

Iodization of dietary salt is recommended to prevent and control iodine deficiency disorders. The kinetic study of dietary iodized salt proves to be of interest not only for the determination of the conditions of production of iodine, but also for a good knowledge of the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of the reaction. In this work, two salt brands were studied and one of them was used for the kinetic study. The kinetic study showed that the reaction proceeded slowly at a medium rate. Since the reaction admits a global order equal to 1, potassium iodide has no influence on this reaction rate. The concentration of iodate ions introduced in the dietary salt is a kinetic parameter that affects the reaction rate. Calculated rate constant was inversely proportional to time. The study has therefore determined experimentally kinetic parameters of the reaction between iodate and iodide ions.
