AIm:To provide a comprehensive and more representative national data on the disease,especially on treatment options and outcomes,and to determine access of retinoblastoma patients from Luzon,Visayas and mindanao to eye care,and determine if access is associated with delay in consultation,staging and ***:Cohort study of retinoblastoma patients seen in eleven institutions located in the three major areas of the Philippines namely Luzon,Vizayas and mindanao from ***:Totally 636 patients,involving 821 eyes,were ***(57%)were from Luzon and were seen in institutions in Luzon(72%).Annually,58±10 new cases were seen with 71%having unilateral *** delay of consultation remained long at 9(3,17)mo,longest in patients with unilateral disease(Pm the Visayas(Pma Staging System,only 35%of patients had Stage 1 while 47%already had extraocular *** was the most common treatment received by 484 patients while intravenous chemotherapy was received by *** were 250(39%)patients alive,195(31%)dead,85(13%)abandoned,17(3%)refused and 89(14%)with no ***:This study presents the largest cohort of retinoblastoma patients in the Philippines in terms of patients’and participating institutions’number and geographical location and type of institution(private and public).It also presents more comprehensive data on the treatments used and outcomes(survival,globe salvage,and vision retention rates).Delay in consultation was still long among patients leading to advanced disease stage and lower survival *** increasing capacity to diagnose and manage retinoblastoma in the country,the delay of consultation remains long primarily due to accessibility issues to eye care institutions especially in the Visayas and financial *** delay was still significant that overall survival rate remain low.

The caring is a very important aspect for every child’s well-being and development. A child should be cared for by biological parents or extended family members when possible. In the absence of these two possibilities, other options are in place such as Residential Child Care Facilities (RCCFs). However, RCCFs are generally regarded as last resorts, as it is noted that they have a negative impact on the well-being of the children. Caregivers in RCCFs should ensure that these children are being adequately cared for as they substitute their biological or extended families. It is also a child’s rights to be provided love, care and support coupled with a sense of belonging, recognition and independence. However, children without or inadequate parental care are likely to be vulnerable from all forms of violence. The aim of this qualitative, exploratory, descriptive, contextual and phenomenological study was to explore and describe the children’s experiences regarding the care received at the Residential Child Care Facilities and to provide recommendations regarding research findings. Data were collected through one on one in-depth interviews and Tech method was used to analyze data. The results of the study show that children in RCCFs have experienced both positive and negative care. The care is experienced through relationships with staff in the facilities, provision of their basic needs, knowledge of their cultural identity and their adult future preparation once they leave the facilities. Thus, it is recommended that a conducive environment that contributes to the quality of care for children in RCCFs be established, taking into consideration human resources capacity, policy guidelines and standards in place while providing care to those children.

AIm： To determine the expression of HER2 and bradykinin B1 receptors （B1R） in the two pathogenic models of gallbladder cancer： the metaplasia dysplasia carcino ma and the adenoma carcinoma pathways.mETHODS： Receptor proteins were visualized by immunohistochemistry on 5-μm sections of paraffin-embedded tissue. Expression of both receptors was studied in biopsy samples from 92 patients （6 males and 86 females; age ranging from 28 to 86 years, mean 56 years）. High HER2 expression in specimens was additionally investigated by fluorescence in situ hybridization. Cell proliferation in each sample was assessed by using the Ki-67 proliferation marker.RESULTS： HER2 receptor protein was absent in adenomas and in normal gallbladder epithelium. On the contrary, there was intense staining for HER2 on the basolateral membrane of epithelial cells of intestinal metaplasia （22/24; 91.7%） and carcinoma in situ （9/10; 90%）, the lesions that displayed a significantly high proliferation index. Protein up-regulation of HER2 in the epithelium with metaplasia or carcinoma in s/tu was not accompanied by HER2 gene amplification. A similar result was observed in invasive carcinomas （0/12）. The B1R distribution pattern mirrored that of HER2 except that B1R was additionally observed in the adenomas. The B1R appeared either as cytoplasmic dots or labeling on the apical cell membrane of the cells composing the epithelia with intestinal metaplasia （24/24; 100%） and carcinoma in situ （10/10; 100%） and in the epithelial cells of adenomas. In contrast, both HER2 （4/12; 33%） and B1R （1/12; 8.3%） showed a low expression in inva- sive gallbladder carcinomas.CONCLUSION： The up-regulation of HER2 and B1R in precursor lesions of gallbladder carcinoma suggests cross-talk between these two receptors that may be of importance in the modulation of cell proliferation in gallbladder carcinogenesis,

Ammonium Ion Adsorption and Settleability Improvement Achieved in a Synthetic Zeolite-Amended Activated Sludge

municipal wastewater treatment plants typically exhibit two classic problems： high ammonium concen- tration in water after conventional biological treatment and, in some cases, poor activated sludge sediment ability. Potential solutions to these problems were investigated by adding a synthetic zeolite obtained from coal fly ash to different steps of activated sludge treatment. The experimental results for ammonium removal fit well with the theoretical adsorption isotherms of the Freundlich model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 13.72 mg.g-＇. Utiliza- tion of this kind of zeolite to improve activated sludge sediment ability is studied for the first time in this work. It is found that the addition of the zeolite （1 g. L-1） to an activated sludge with settling problems significantly enhances its sediment ability and comoact ability. This is confirmed by the sludge volume index （SVI）, which was reduced from 163 ml.g-1 to 70 ml.g-r, the V60 value, which was reduced from 894 ml.L-1 to 427 ml.L-1, and the zeta poten- tial （0, which was reduced from -19.81 mV to -14.29 mV. The results indicate that the addition of this synthetic zeolite to activated sludge, as an additional waste management practice, has a positive impact on both ammonium removal and sludge settleability.

Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography Indices and Their Value in Diagnosing Corneal Ectasia

Purpose: To determine the diagnostic value of the anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) indices in differentiating normal from ectatic corneas. material and methods: Two groups of patients—with corneal ectasia and normal controls were compared. Each group consists of 80 eyes of 43 age and sex-matched patients. All of them underwent corneal topography with OCULUS Keratograph 5m and corneal pachymetry with AS-OCT with RTVue-100. The indices generated by the AS-OCT pachymetric scans were analyzed. Results: There was a statistically significant difference for all the examined indices between the two groups with p values minimal corneal thickness (min) was the best performing index according to the ROC analysis with an area under the curve of 0.976 and a combination of sensitivity and specificity of 0.925 and 0.911 respectively, and a “cut-off” value of 484 microns, followed by the indices of focal thinning—min-med and min-max with an area under the curve of 0.973 and 0.971 and sensitivity/specificity of 0.938/0.962 and 0.938/0.937 respectively. The rest of the examined parameters had an area under the curve in the range between 0.950 for the central corneal thickness and 0.814 for the outer superior segment. Conclusion: The anterior segment OCT indices showed excellent capability in differentiating ectatic from normal corneas.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

A 5 1/2-year-old boy revealed symmetric erythematous plaques on b oth arms and legs as well as in the face. Additionally, contractions of several digital joints were noted. We diagnosed a progressive symmetric erythrokeratoderma and i nitiated a topical therapy with tretinoin. Here we discuss the etiology, differe ntial diagnoses, and therapeutic options of this rare disorder of keratinization .

molluscum contagiosum is a viral disease frequently observed in child ren and adolescents with atopic dermatitis, in whom it poses a special therapeutic chall enge. A 3-year-old girl presentedwith atopic eczema and disseminatedmolluscu mcontagiosum on her buttocks and upper legs. Topical application of 0.05% tret inoin resulted in a steady regression of the lesions. Other therapeutic options include topical antiviral agents, cryosurgery, laser treatment, and curettage. F urther, the therapeutic outcome is highly dependent on an adequate therapy of th e concomitant atopic eczema.

Histological examination confirmed the clinical p resumptive diagnosis of incontinentia pigmenti. We discuss the clinical features , diagnosis, and the molecular genetic basis of this rare inherited skin disorde r.
