strong>Background:strong> Medullary sponge kidney (MSK) is a disturbance of renal development characterized by cystic dilation and diffuse precalyceal duct ectasia. The disease affects both genders in equal proportions and is generally diagnosed in adulthood, as a result of recurrent calcium nephrolithiasis and nephrocalcinosis. The most frequently encountered manifestations being renal colic, microscopic or macroscopic hematuria, and fever. The intravenous pyelogram is standard for diagnosis and metabolic workup is required to identify the underlying cause. The main goal of treatment is to prevent recurrence and disease progression. Though considered a benign condition, a nephrectomy may often be required in patients presenting late with irreversible complications and end-stage renal disease.strong> Aim:strong> To highlight and discuss the presentation and management of a rare case of nephrocalcinosis and nephrolithiasis secondary to the medullary sponge kidney. strong>Case presentation:strong> We report herein the case of a 56-year-old male with long-standing hematuria in whom a diagnosis of medullary sponge kidney disease was made and he underwent a left total nephrectomy. The postoperative course was uneventful. strong>Conclusion:strong> Nephrocalcinosis and nephrolithiasis are complications of MSK and can result in irreversible renal damage. A high index of suspicion is necessary for patients presenting with renal colic, recurrent urinary tract infections, or hematuria for prompt diagnosis and management.

We performed 6 fabrications of dry-fermented sausages to investigate, at laboratory scale, the effects of combined partial substitutions of sodium chloride by potassium chloride and pork backfat by sunflower oil on key physical-chemical and biochemical parameters, instrumental colour and texture measurements, and the consumer acceptability of the end-products. Regarding the physical-chemical parameters, statistical analysis of results showed that final product weight loss was impacted by fat content and use of sunflower oil;final mean water activity value was only affected by salt level;and animal fat content impacted pH values, only at the end of drying. Regarding the biochemical parameters investigated, we statistically found a marked impact of partial substitution of NaCl by KCl on the proteolysis evolution, of fat level and sodium content on the end-product lipolysis, and finally, a significant effect of animal fat level and incorporation of sunflower oil on both protein and lipid oxidations. However, the new product formulations combining salt and fat substitutions lead to globally acceptable water loss and water activity values and similar rates of proteolysis, lipolysis and lipid oxidation, but less protein oxidation. From a practical point of view, the results clearly showed that sodium and animal fat contents in dryfermented sausages can be drastically reduced with no too marked adverse effect on colour, final textural properties or consumer acceptability. On the basis of these laboratory results, new healthier dry-fermented products can be manufactured by an industrial company in the near future.

Dear Editor,Rauvolfia tetraphylla(aka the Devil pepper)(Supplemental Figure 1)is a well-known medicinal plant that produces monoterpenoid indole alkaloids(MIAs).This MIA biosynthesis occurs in several organs,including leaves,stems,fruit,and roots,which accumulate the famous antiarrhythmic ajmaline(Kumar et al.2016a,2016b;Kumara et al.,2019).MIAs are natural products notably involved in plant adaptation to the environment and defense against *** mainly results from their high biological activities,which also explain their pharmacological properties.

Cardiac resynchronization therapy(CRT)has been shown to improve symptoms,left ventricle(LV)performance and long-term survival in patients with heart failure with re-duced ejection fraction(HFrEF)and delayed ventricular activation.[1]CRT is currently recom-mended in symptomatic patients with LV ejection fraction of≤35%,and ventricular conduction dis-order manifested as left bundle branch block(LBBB)>149 ms,and should be considered in LBBB>129 ms or non-LBBB QRS duration>150 ms.

Sexual selection is considered the major cause of sexual dimorphism, but recent observations suggest that natural selection may play a more important role in the evolution of sex differentiation than previously recognized. Therefore, studying the trade-offs between natural selection and sexual selection is crucial to a better understanding of the ecology underlying the evolution of sexual dimorphism. The freshwater blenny Salaria fluviatilis, a fish inhabiting lakes and rivers around the Mediterranean Sea, displays strong sexual dimorphism in size, shape, and behavior （i.e., larger body and head size for males and higher swimming requirements for females during the reproductive period）. We tested for differences in sexual dimorphism in size and shape between the populations from lake and river habitats with the goal of identifying the trade-offs between natural and sexual se- lection that underlie variations in sexual dimorphism in this species. Our results show i） differences in sexual size dimorphism （SSizeD） in accordance to Rensch＇s rule （i.e., larger individuals in rivers associated with higher SSizeD）, and ii） a decrease in shape differentiation between males and fe- males in lake populations. Together, this suggests that the different environmental conditions between lake and river habitats （e.g., resource limitations, predation pressure, water velocity） affect the relative importance of sexual selection in the display of sexual dimorphism within the species. This study highlights the importance of considering the environmental conditions to which populations are exposed to better understand the ecology underlying the evolution of sexual dimorphism.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in December 2019 in China,various measures have been adopted in order to attenuate the impact of the virus on the *** regard to spine surgery,French physicians are devoted to take place in the national plan against COVID-19,the French Spine Surgery Society therefore decided to elaborate specific guidelines for management of spinal disorders during COVID-19 pandemic in order to prioritize management of patients.A three levels stratification was elaborated with Level I:Urgent surgical indications,Level II:Surgical indications associated to a potential loss of chance for the patient and Level III:Non-urgent surgical *** also report French experience in a COVID-19 cluster region illustrated by two clinical *** hope that the guidelines formulated by the French Spine Surgery Society and the experience of spine surgeons from a cluster region will be helpful in order optimizing the management of patients with urgent spinal conditions during the pandemic.

Molecular speciation of atmospheric organic matter was investigated during a short summer field campaign performed in a citrus fruit field in northern Corsica（June 2011）. Aimedat assessing the performance on the field of newly developed analytical protocols, this work focuses on the molecular composition of both gas and particulate phases and provides an insight into partitioning behavior of the semi-volatile oxygenated fraction. Limonene ozonolysis tracers were specifically searched for, according to gas chromatography–mass spectrometry（GC–MS） data previously recorded for smog chamber experiments. A screening of other oxygenated species present in the field atmosphere was also performed. About sixty polar molecules were positively or tentatively identified in gas and/or particle phases. These molecules comprise a wide range of branched and linear, mono and di-carbonyls（C_3–C7）,mono and di-carboxylic acids（C_3–C_18）, and compounds bearing up to three *** these compounds, some can be specifically attributed to limonene oxidation and others can be related to α- or β-pinene oxidation. This provides an original snapshot of the organic matter composition at a Mediterranean site in summer. Furthermore, for compounds identified and quantified in both gaseous and particulate phases, an experimental gas/particle partitioning coefficient was determined. Several volatile products, which are not expected in the particulate phase assuming thermodynamic equilibrium, were nonetheless present in significant concentrations. Hypotheses are proposed to explain these observations, such as the possible aerosol viscosity that could hinder the theoretical equilibrium to be rapidly reached.
