Background:Recent evidence suggests that soil-transmitted helminth(STH)transmission interruption may be feasible through community-wide mass drug administration(cMDA)that deworms community members of all ages.A change from school-based deworming to cMDA will require reconfiguring of STH programs in endemic *** conducted formative qualitative research in Benin,India,and Malawi to identify barriers and facilitators to successfully launching a cMDA program from the policy-stakeholder ***:We conducted 40 key informant interviews with policy stakeholders identified as critical change agents at national,state/district,and sub-district *** included World Health Organization country office staff,implementing partners,and national and sub-national government *** used the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research to guide data collection,coding,and *** maps were used to organize coded data and differentiate perceived facilitators and barriers to launching cMDA by ***:Key facilitators to launching a cMDA program included availability of high-quality,tailored sensitization materials,and human and material resources that could be leveraged from previous MDA *** barriers included the potential to overburden existing health workers,uncertainty of external funding to sustain a cMDA program,and concerns about weak intragovernmental coordination to implement ***-cutting themes included the need for rigorous trial evidence on STH transmission interruption to gain confidence in cMDA,and implemen-tation evidence to effectively operationalize ***,if policy stakeholders anticipate a cMDA program cannot be sustained due to cost and human resource barriers in the long term they may be less likely to support the launch of a program in the short ***:Overall,policy stakeholders were optimistic about implementing cMDA primarily because they believe that the tools neces

The development of rapid,selective,and sensitivefluorescent sensors is essential for visualizing and quantifying biological molecules and processes in vitro,ex vitro,and in vivo,which is important for not only fundamental biological studies but the accurate diagnosis of *** emergingfield of activity-based sensing(ABS),a sensing method that utilizes molecular reactivity for analyte detection possesses many advantages including high specificity,sensitivity and *** aggrega-tion caused quenching phenomenon which occurs in most conventionalfluorophores results in reduced labeling efficiency of the target analytes and low photobleaching resistance,therefore limiting the applications of the ABS *** contrast,aggre-gation induced emission(AIE)active luminogens(AIEgens)provide exceptional molecular frameworks for *** the many reaction classes utilized in the AIEgen ABS approach,click chemistry has become increasing *** this review,the sensing concepts of the ABS approach with AIEgens and the principles of click chemistry are discussed,followed by a systematic summary of the application of specific click chemistry reactions in AIEgen ABS protocols for the detection of an array of target ***,the utility of click chemistry in the construction of AIEgens for bioimaging will also be showcased throughout the review.

Unveiling the lamellar structure of the human cornea over its full thickness using polarization-resolved SHG microscopy

A key property of the human cornea is to maintain its curvature and consequently its refraction capability despite daily changes in intraocular *** is closely related to the multiscale structure of the corneal stroma,which consists of 1-3µm-thick stacked lamellae made of thin collagen ***,the distribution,size,and orientation of these lamellae along the depth of the cornea are poorly characterized up to *** this study,we use second harmonic generation(SHG)microscopy to visualize the collagen distribution over the full depth of 10 intact and unstained human corneas(500-600µm thick).We take advantage of the small coherence length in epi-detection to axially resolve the lamellae while maintaining the corneal physiological ***,as raw epi-detected SHG images are spatially homogenous because of the sub-wavelength size of stromal collagen fibrils,we use a polarimetric approach to measure the collagen orientation in every *** a careful validation of this approach,we show that the collagen lamellae(i)are mostly oriented along the inferior-superior axis in the anterior stroma and along the nasal-temporal axis in the posterior stroma,with a gradual shift in between and(ii)exhibit more disorder in the anterior *** results represent the first quantitative characterization of the lamellar structure of the human cornea continuously along its entire thickness with micrometric *** also shows the unique potential of P-SHG microscopy for imaging of collagen distribution in thick dense tissues.

Extending the functions of the homeotic transcription factor Cdx2 in the digestive system through nontranscriptional activities

The homeoprotein encoded by the intestinal-specific Cdx2 gene is a major regulator of gut development and homeostasis,also involved in colon cancer as well as in intestinal-type metaplasias when it is abnormally expressed outside the *** the molecular level,structure/function studies have demonstrated that the Cdx2 protein is a transcription factor containing a conserved homeotic DNA-binding domain made ofthree alpha helixes arranged in a helix-turn-helix motif,preceded by a transcriptional domain and followed by a regulatory *** protein interacts with several thousand sites on the chromatin and widely regulates intestinal functions in stem/progenitor cells as well as in mature differentiated ***,this transcription factor also acts trough original nontranscriptional ***,the identification of novel protein partners of Cdx2 and also of a splicing variant revealed unexpected functions in the control of signaling pathways like the Wnt and NF-k B pathways,in double-strand break DNA repair and in premessenger RNA *** novel functions of Cdx2 must be considered to fully understand the complexity of the role of Cdx2 in the healthy intestine and in diseases.

We explore the effects of competitive incentives and of their time horizon on the evolution of both asset prices and trading activity in experimental asset *** compare(i)a no-bonus treatment;(ii)a short-term bonus treatment in which bonuses are assigned to the best performers at the end of each trading period;(iii)a long-term bonus treatment in which bonuses are assigned to the best performers at the end of the 15 periods of the *** find that the existence of bonus contracts does not increase the likelihood of bubbles but it affects their severity,depending on the time horizon of *** with longterm bonus contracts experience lower price deviations and a lower turnover of assets than markets with either no bonuses or long-term bonus ***-term bonus contracts increase price deviations but only when markets include a higher share of male *** the individual level,the introduction of bonus contracts increases the trading activity of males,probably due to their higher competitiveness.

Circadian Clock Genes Universally Control Key Agricultural Traits

Circadian clocks are endogenous timers that enable plants to synchronize biological processes with daily and seasonal environmental conditions in order to allocate resources during the most beneficial times of day and year. The circadian clock regulates a number of central plant activities, including growth, develop- ment, and reproduction, primarily through controlling a substantial proportion of transcriptional activity and protein function. This review examines the roles that alleles of circadian clock genes have played in domestication and improvement of crop plants. The focus here is on three groups of circadian clock genes essential to clock function in Arabidopsis thaliana： PSEUDO-RESPONSE REGULATORs, GIGANTEA, and the evening complex genes EARL Y FLOWERING 3, EARLY FLOWERING 4, and LUX ARRHYTHMO. Homol- ogous genes from each group underlie quantitative trait loci that have beneficial influences on key agricul- tural traits, especially flowering time but also yield, biomass, and biennial growth habit. Emerging insights into circadian clock regulation of other fundamental plant processes, including responses to abiotic and biotic stresses, are discussed to highlight promising avenues for further crop improvement.

Analysis of Rainfall Intensity-Duration-Frequency Relationship for Rwanda

Global atmospheric and oceanic perturbations and local weather variability induced factors highly alter the rainfall pattern of a region. Such factors result in extreme events of devastating nature to mankind. Rainfall Intensity Duration Frequency (IDF) is one of the most commonly used tools in water resources engineering particularly to identify design storm event of various magnitude, duration and return period simultaneously. In light of this, the present study is aimed at developing rainfall IDF relationship for entire Rwanda based on selected twenty six (26) rainfall gauging stations. The gauging stations have been selected based on reliable rainfall records representing the different geographical locations varying from 14 to 83 years of record length. Daily annual maximum rainfall data has been disaggregated into sub-daily values such as 0.5 hr, 1 hr, 3 hr, 6 hr and 12 hr and fitted to the probability distributions. Quantile estimation has been made for different return periods and best fit distribution is identified based on least square standard error of estimate. At-site and regional IDF parameters were computed and subsequent curves were established for different return period. The moment ratio diagram (MRD) and L-moment ratio diagram (LMRD) methods have been used to fit frequency distributions and identify homogeneous regions for observed 24-hr maximum annual rainfall. The rainfall stations have been divided into five homogeneous rainfall regions for all 26 stations. The results of present analysis can be used as useful information for future water resources development planning purposes.

Background:We investigated early hallmarks of putative therapeutic effects following systemic transplantation of bone marrow derived macrophages(BM-M)in APP/PS1 transgenic ***:BM-M were transplanted into the tail vein and the animals analysed 1 month ***:BM-M transplantation promoted the reduction of the amyloid beta[37-42]plaque number and size in the cortex and hippocampus of the treated mice,but no change in the more heavily modified pyroglutamate amyloid beta E3 *** number of phenotypically‘small’microglia increased in the *** size decreased overall,indicating a reduction of activated *** expression of interleukin 6 and 10,interferongamma,and prostaglandin E receptor 2 was significantly lower in the hippocampus,while interleukin 10 expression was elevated in the cortex of the treated ***:BM-M systemically transplanted,promote a decrease in neuroinflammation and a limited reversion of amyloid *** exploratory study may support the potential of BM-M or microglia-like cell therapy and further illuminates the mechanisms of action associated with such transplants.
