Socio-Cultural Representations and Therapeutic Itineraries of Parents of Autistic Children Followed in the INSP’s Children’s Mental Health Services

Pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) remain little known to populations in developing countries. In black Africa their social representations remain strongly influenced by local belief systems. The general objective of this study was to understand the perceptions and representations of Ivorian parents vis-à-vis PDD. This was a mixed (qualitative and quantitative) prospective cross-sectional study with a descriptive aim that involved a sample of 49 parents. The sampling was of the qualitative type by multiple cases with reasoned choice by saturation. Our results showed that male parents were mostly aged between 40 - 49 years (48.98%) with a higher level of education (67.34%) while mothers were mostly aged between 30 - 39 (61.22%) and a higher level (30.61%). Autistic children were negatively perceived by their parents: either as a source of psychological suffering (82.85%), or as mysterious children who sacrificed their parents (44.66%), or as “bobo” children (mute children in common Ivorian language) (16.66%) or like rude children (13.34%). The supposed origin of the disorder according to the parents was mystical-religious (60.94%);natural (25%);hereditary (6.25%). In 6.25% of cases, PDD were assumed to be of unknown or iatrogenic origin attributable to vaccination (1.56%). 75.51% of parents said that in addition to conventional medical therapies, they also used traditional therapies. The use of this therapeutic alternative would be linked to the perceptions and beliefs that feed the socio-cultural representations of our respondents.

Detection of Low-Risk and High-Risk Oncogenic Human Papillomavirus in Archived Tissues from ENT Tumors in Burkina Faso

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is classified into high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) and HPV (LR-HPV) according to their oncogenic potential. These viruses can be found in the cervix, vagina, vulva, anus and in the ENT sphere. HPV ENT infections can lead to benign or malignant tumors in which we could find both LR-HPV and HR-HPV genotypes. The objective of this study was to investigate the genotypes of HR-HPV and LR-HPV in archived tissue samples derived from both benign and malignant tumors of the ear, nose, and throat (ENT) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. One hundred and twenty formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded archived tissues of the ENT sphere from 26 benign tumors and 94 malignant tumors were included. The tissues were first deparaffinized with xylem. The extracted DNA was used to test for high-risk and low-risk HPV by Real-Time Multiplex PCR. HPV DNA was found in 57.7% (15/26) of benign tumors and 43.61% (41/94) of malignant tumors. The prevalence of HPV infection was 46.67% (56/120) in all tumors combined. The most common HPV genotypes found were HPV 11 (34.28%), HPV 6 (30%), HPV56 (14.28%) and HPV 33 (8.57%). There were 21.43% (12/56) cases of genotypes co-infections with 10 cases of double infection and 2 cases of triple infection. Both low-risk and high-risk HPV are found in ENT tumors with relatively high HPV prevalence.

Stigma and its impact on the families of former soldiers of the German Armed Forces: An exploratory study

Background: Military families who have a family member with a mental illness see themselves confronted with many demands. Stigmatization is one of these challenges. Stigmatization affects not only the individual who suffers from a mental illness but also other family members via stigma by association and vicarious stigma. Stigma by association occurs when mental illness stigma spills over to individuals associated with an individual with a mental illness. Vicarious stigma describes the suffering of family members when they note the impact of stigma on their relative with mental illness. As a societal phenomenon, stigma plays out in social interactions and might therefore influence the social networks of families. It is also associated with healthcare ***: Narrative interviews were conducted with 15 family members(partners, spouses, parents and children) of former soldiers of the German Armed Forces with a service-induced mental illness. The transcribed interview data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach, in which codes were formed and emerging themes were systemized. Relationships between stigma, the families’ reactions to it, its effects on their social relationships and its interference with their healthcare utilization were ***: This study provides a detailed description of how relatives of former German soldiers with mental health problems experience stigma by association and vicarious stigma. Their perceptions are shown in a model that describes stigma-related attitudes, reactions to them and their effects on the social relationships of former soldiers’ families. These families felt stigmatized because of the former soldiers’ mental illness(mental illness stigma) and the military context in which it occurred(former soldier stigma). Sirenomelia is a rare fetal malformation with more or less complete fusion of both lower limbs consistently associated with bilateral renal abnormalities. The positive diagnosis can be made antenatally by ultrasound during the first trimester of pregnancy but often before the 22 weeks of amenorrhea. The objective was to think about the possible diagnosis by ultrasound in front of the urinary anomalies and the ologiamnios during the morphological study of the second trimester of pregnancy. We report a case of sirenomelia in a 25-year-old lady as part of the routine prenatal assessment suspected and confirmed during the morphological ultrasound of the second trimester of pregnancy and confirmed after the termination of pregnancy in Mali in the Health Center of Reference of commune III of the district of Bamako. The morphological ultrasound made it possible to diagnose the malformation of the urinary tract, the amniotic fluid and to make the therapeutic decision of medical termination of pregnancy at the end of confirming the siren syndrome.

Taxane efficacy in triple negative breast cancer(TNBC)is limited by insufficient tumor accumulation and severe off-target *** offer a unique opportunity to enhance the anti-cancer potency of this ***,1,000 nm×400 nm discoidal polymeric nanoconstructs(DPN)encapsulating docetaxel(DTXL)and the near infrared compound Iipid-Cy5 were *** were obtained by filling multiple times cylindrical wells in a poly(vinyl alcohol)template with a polymer mixture comprising poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA)and poly(ethylene glycol)diacrylate(PEG-DA)chains together with therapeutic and imaging *** resulting“multi-passage”DPN exhibited higher DTXL loading,Iipid-Cy5 stability,and stiffness as compared to the conventional"single-passage"*** microscopy confirmed that DTXL-DPN were not taken up by MDA-MB-231 cells but would rather sit next to the cell membrane and slowly release DTXL *** DPN had no toxicity on TNBC cells,whereas DTXL-DPN presented a cytotoxic potential comparable to free DTXL(IC_(50)=2.6 nM±1.0 nM vs.7.0 nM±1.09 nM at 72 h).In orthotopic murine models,DPN accumulated in TNBC more efficiently than *** only 2 mg/kg DTXL,intravenously administered every 2 days for a total of 13 treatments,DTXL-DPN induced tumor regression and were associated to an overall 80%survival rate as opposed to a 30%survival rate for free-DTXL,at 120 *** untreated mice succumbed before 90 ***,this data demonstrates that vascular confined multi-passage DPN,biomimicking the behavior of circulating platelets,can efficiently deliver chemotherapeutic molecules to malignant tissues and effectively treat orthotopic TNBC at minimal taxane doses.

Puppyhood is a very active social and vocal period in a harbor seal's life Ph oca vitulina. An important feature of vocalizations is their temporal and rhythmic structure, and understanding vocal timing and rhythms in harbor seals is critical to a cross-species hypothesis in evolutionary neuroscience that links vocal learning, rhythm perception, and synchronization. This study utilized analytical techniques that may best capture rhythmic structure in pup vocalizations with the goal of examining whether (1) harbor seal pups show rhythmic structure in their calls and (2) rhythms evolve over time. Calls of 3 wild-born seal pups were recorded daily over the course of 1-3 weeks;3 temporal features were analyzed using 3 complementary techniques. We identified temporal and rhythmic structure in pup calls across different time windows. The calls of harbor seal pups exhibit some degree of temporal and rhythmic organization, which evolves over puppyhood and resembles that of other species' in teractive comm un icati on. We suggest n ext steps for investigating call structure in harbor seal pups and propose comparative hypotheses to test in other pinniped species.

Owing to their higher intrinsic electrical conductivity and chemical stability with respect to their oxide counterparts, nanostructured metal sulfides are expected to revive materials for resistive chemical sensor applications. Herein, we explore the gas sensing behavior of WS2 nanowire-nanoflake hybrid materials and demonstrate their excellent sensitivity （0.043 ppm-1） as well as high selectivity towards H2S relative to CO, NH~, H2, and NO （with corresponding sensitivities of 0.002, 0.0074, 0.0002, and 0.0046 pprn-1, respectively）. Gas response measurements, complemented with the results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis and first-principles calculations based on density functional theory, suggest that the intrinsic electronic properties of pristine WS2 alone are not sufficient to explain the observed high sensitivity towards H2S. A major role in this behavior is also played by O doping in the S sites of the WS2 lattice. The results of the present study open up new avenues for the use of transition metal disulfide nanomaterials as effective alternatives to metal oxides in future applications for industrial process control, security, and health and environmental safety.

Abdominal wall malformations correspond to a wide spectrum of congenital anomalies that are due to a defect in the closure of the anterior abdominal wall and can be fatal. We report the case of laparoschisis associated with a poly malformation syndrome in the same fetus at the reference health center of commune III of the district of Bamako. The objective is to clarify the interest of antenatal ultrasound in the diagnosis and prognosis of these malformations. It was a 19-year-old prim gravid woman received as part of the prenatal check-up. Antenatal ultrasound had allowed the diagnosis of malformation of the anterior abdominal wall of the gastroschisis type associated with abnormalities of the neural tube, the urogenital system and the bone skeleton. The antenatal diagnosis of the malformations had motivated the realization of a therapeutic termination of pregnancy at 19 weeks of amenorrhea and 3 days by triggering and vaginal delivery, allowing the confirmation of the diagnosis of gastroschisis and the poly malformation syndrome which is extremely rare. Antenatal ultrasound remains an ideal means of imaging for monitoring pregnancy and had made it possible to make the prognosis and antenatal diagnosis of multiple malformations in association, and to indicate better therapeutic decision-making.
