Painting contractors have struggled with im.lem.ntation and assessm.nt of lead exposure controls leading to persistently elevated blood lead levels in this high-risk group of workers. The objective of this study was to assess the intensity of lead exposures based on com.only used air velocities inside field containm.nt structures during abrasive blasting and vacuum.ng. Exposures were assessed over 14 days from.April to July 2021 at a tainter gate and bridge lead paint rem.val project. Personal air sam.les, skin wipes, air velocity readings, and blood lead sam.les were collected. The geom.tric m.an (Gm. lead exposure for abrasive blasters and vacuum.rs was ≥4 × the OSHA Lead Perm.ssible Exposure Lim.t (PEL) of 50 μg/m.sup>3. There was high variability in the personal lead exposures (Geom.tric standard deviation (GSD) 4.0 - 5.0). The Gm.hand wipe exposures exceeded a Derm.l PEL of 500 μg/wipe (abrasive blaster 564 μg/wipe and vacuum.r 754 μg/wipe). Residual lead was m.asured on workers’ hands in 67% of the post hand washing sam.les. Air velocities m.asured inside of the field containm.nts ranged from.107 feet per m.nute to 229 feet per m.nute. The effect of air velocity on the concentration of lead on workers’ hands after work (F = 0.58, p = 0.35) and airborne lead concentration was not significant (F = 0.36, p = 0.48). Six of the eight workers’ blood lead levels increased after exposure to lead. There was a non-statistically significant relationship between lead rem.ining on workers’ hands after handwashing and an increase in blood lead level. This is the first study that assessed both ventilation flow rates used in the industrial painting industry and m.asurem.nts of airborne and derm.l (hands) lead exposures. For the projects evaluated, the collected exposure data indicate that air velocities frequently used in the industrial painting industry to ventilate field containm.nt structures did not tend to prevent an increase in worker blood lead and were ineffecti

Although considerable research has been conducted regarding airborne lead exposures during lead paint rem.val, little data has been collected m.asuring the lead concentration on workers’ hands in the construction industry. As a result, there are gaps in our understanding of the effectiveness of a standard work practice control (handwashing) in the prevention and control of elevated blood lead levels (BLLs) in the workplace. The prim.ry objective of this study was to assess if a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) form.lation intended to rem.ve lead from.skin (Hygenall© LeadoffTm./sup> Foam.ng Soap) is m.re effective than a com.only used soap in the industrial painting industry (Zep Cherry Bom. Soap) in reducing the concentration of lead on workers’ hands after exposure. A secondary aim.was to assess if using LeadoffTm./sup> Foam.ng Soap during handwashing reduces worker uptake of lead on bridge painting projects. We evaluated hand wipe, air sam.le and blood lead level data collected by two industrial bridge painting contractors. Airborne exposures ranged from.350 μg/m.sup>3 to 19,700 μg/m.sup>3. The geom.tric m.an lead concentration rem.ining on workers’ hands after using Zep Cherry Bom. Soap was 77 μg per hand wipe com.ared with 61 μg per hand wipe after use of LeadoffTm./sup> Foam.ng Soap for all work classifications. The geom.tric lead concentration on workers’ hands decreased by 16 μg/hand wipe for all work classifications com.ined after using LeadoffTm./sup> Foam.ng Soap—a decrease of 21%. The use of Hygenall LeadoffTm./sup> Foam.ng Soap reduced the m.xim.m.lead concentration on workers’ hands by 85%. A coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has caused a global pandem.c and associated m.rbidity and m.rtality resultant from.COVID-19. As a result of efforts to control direct (person to person) and indirect (contam.nated objects, surfaces, indoor air) transm.ssion of the virus, various interventions have been evaluated. Studies were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of com.ercially available chlorine dioxide (CD) products to reduce viral loads on PPE (face m.sks) and surfaces using a novel dry gas release intervention. The efficacy of CD slow release 30-day sachets was tested on N95 face m.sks inoculated with hum.n coronavirus OC43 in suspension. One sachet was placed with an inoculated m.sk in plastic resealable bags. Three trials were com.leted using the original sachet where a m.sk and sachet were placed into a plastic bag for 13 hours per sachet age of 1 day, 14 days, and 30 days. The am.unt of CD generated during a 13-hour treatm.nt period was 0.30 m.. The nom.nal concentration of CD was estim.ted to be 317 m./m.sup>3. All three tests dem.nstrated at least a 99.91% reduction of viral loading in the m.sk versus a non-treated control. Efficacy of CD dry gas fast releasing pods (Ultrashok) for fum.gation was also tested in a 1344 ft3 closed room. Two pods were placed in the space and CD surface virucidal efficacy was tested in three locations of the room.after 1 hour and 2 hours of dwell tim.. The estim.ted nom.nal peak concentration was 15 ppm. in the room. The one-hour exposure saw a >99.91% OC43 reduction on surfaces and the two-hour exposure resulted in a >99.997% OC43 reduction on surfaces versus a non-treated control. These results indicate dry CD is highly effective against hum.n coronavirus. CD was 99.91% effective for elim.nating hum.n coronavirus OC43 in both sachet and capsule fum.gant form.using both fast and slow release m.chanism.. Rapid fum.gant application is suitable for contam.nated room., am.ulances, em.rgency vehicles, and m.ny types of PPE

Naphthalene, a constituent of coal tar, is a contam.nant frequently found at form.r m.nufactured gas plants (m.P). Developm.nt at these sites has resulted in residential and com.ercial areas with potential exposures from.vapor intrusion adversely affecting indoor air of residences and buildings. Naphthalene is routinely analyzed in soil vapor intrusion assessm.nts for properties overlying and surrounding form.r m.P sites. The United States Environm.ntal Protection Agency (EPA) has a proposed unit risk factor and the State of California has prom.lgated a unit risk factor for naphthalene. Naphthalene exposure from.vapor intrusion is potentially a public health risk. The purpose of this study was to evaluate three sites located in the northeast United States to determ.ne the frequency of naphthalene detection in indoor air. A total of 79 properties were included in the study. A total of 546 indoor air sam.les were analyzed for naphthalene on 161 occasions. Naphthalene concentrations ranged from.0.26 to 51 μg/m. of air. Only 3 of the 546 indoor air sam.les detected naphthalene above the ninety-fifth percentile background value of 12 μg/m. of air. Risk analysis indicated naphthalene vapor intrusion was not a public health risk am.ng the 79 properties built on or near the form.r m.P sites.

Non-syndrom.c cleft lip with or without cleft palate （nsCL/P） is am.ng the m.st com.on m.jor birth defects, with com.lex inheritance involving m.ltiple genes and environm.ntal factors. Num.rous studies of m.HFR, encoding m.thylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, which catalyzes the rate-lim.ting step of folic acid biosynthesis, have shown inconsistent association of two com.on hypom.rphic allelic variants, C677T and A1298C, in nsCL/P patients and, in som. cases, their m.thers. We have studied the m.HFR C677T and A1298C polym.rphism. in nsCL/P patients, their m.thers, and population-m.tched controls from.northern Venezuela. We found no evidence for contribution of the m.HFR C677T and A1298C variants to the risk of nsCL/P in northern Venezuela. Overall, our findings fail to support a causal role of either the m.HFR C677T or A 1298C variants in the pathogenesis of nsCL/P in northern Venezuela.

To achieve efficient photocatalytic H_(2) generation from.water using earth-abundant and cost-effective m.terials,a sim.le synthesis m.thod for carbon-doped CdS particles wrapped with graphene(C-doped CdS@G)is *** doping effect and the application of graphene as cocatalyst for CdS is studied for photocatalytic H_(2) *** m.st active sam.le consists of CdS and graphene(CdS-0.15G)exhibits prom.sing photocatalytic activity,producing 3.12 m.ol g^-(1) h^-(1) of H_(2) under sim.lated solar light which is^4.6 tim.s superior than pure CdS nanoparticles giving an apparent quantum.efficiency(AQY)of 11.7%.The enhanced photocatalytic activity for H_(2) generation is associated to the narrowing of the bandgap,enhanced light absorption,fast interfacial charge transfer,and higher carrier density(N_(D))in C-doped CdS@G *** is achieved by C doping in CdS nanoparticles and the form.tion of a graphene shell over the C-doped CdS *** stability test,the spent catalysts sam.le was also characterized to investigate the nanostructure.
