Non-invasive stimulation techniques to relieve abdominal/pelvic pain: Is more always better?

Chronic abdominal and pelvic pain is a common condition that has significant impact on quality of life,and causes billions of dollars in direct and indirect *** data suggest that transcranial direct current stimulation(t DCS),alone or in combination with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS),could be a promising therapeutic avenue to reduce chronic *** encouraging results coming from these studies prompted us to try combining TENS and t DCS in 4 of our patients who suffered from chronic abdominal/pelvic pain and to compare the effect with 5other patients who received TENS *** intensity was assessed with a visual analog scale before,during and after the *** observed that there was a slight decrease in pain which was similar in both patient groups(TENS alone and TENS combined with t DCS).These observations suggest that combining TENS and t DCS in patients suffering from chronic pelvic and/or abdominal pain produces no additional benefit,compared to TENS *** studies,looking at the effect of several/consecutive TENS and t DCS sessions should be conducted.

泥炭地主要氧化酶在各个季节均会面临气候胁迫,但目前缺乏氧化酶特征及其对气候胁迫响应方面的数据。在实验增温条件下、泥炭藓藓坪区,沿狭窄的矿养-雨养泥炭地梯度,测定了酚氧化酶和过氧化物酶的活性。发现,不管季节和采样面积如何,泥炭藓的过氧化物酶活性均比酚氧化物酶活性高出1000倍以上。气温升高(平均1℃)使过氧化物酶活性增加(30%),但增温不改变酚氧化酶的活性。结果表明,泥炭地过氧化物酶活性的监测可作为反映气候变暖对泥炭地碳循环影响的一个合适的且有预见性的指标。

Recovery of locomotor behavior following spinal cord injury can occur spontaneously in some vertebrates, such as fish, urodele amphibians, and certain reptiles. This review provides an overview of the current status of our knowledge on the anatomical and electrophysiological changes occurring within the spinal cord that lead to, or are associated with the [e-expression of locomotion in spinally-transected salamanders. A better understanding of these processes will help to devise strategies for restoring locomotor function in mammals, including humans.

The aim of this paper is to test a developed SOR R＆B method using the Chebyshev accelerator algorithm to solve the Laplace equation in a cubic 3D configuration. Comparisons are made in terms of precision and computing time with other elliptic equation solvers proposed in the open source LIS library. The first results, obtained by using a single core on a HPC, show that the developed SOR R＆B method is efficient when the spectral radius needed for the Chebyshev acceleration is carefully pre-estimated. Preliminary results obtained with a parallelized code using the MPI library are also discussed when the calculation is distributed over one hundred cores.

AIM:To evaluate the prevalence of breast tumors in adult females with chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV) ***:Prospective,single-center study,based on female outpatients consulting in a liver unit,for 1 *** study group included females with present and/or past history of chronic infection by *** with spontaneous recovery were *** hepatitis had been proved by liver biopsy in the majority of cases and/or biological markers of inflammation and *** control group included female patients with other well documented chronic liver diseases:chronic hepatitis B,alcoholic liver disease,autoimmune hepatitis,hemochromatosis,non alcoholic liver disease,chronic *** patients were prospectively questioned during consultation about past breast history and follow-up by ***:Breast carcinoma was recorded in 17/294 patients with HCV infection(5.8%,95% CI:3.1-8.4) vs 5/107 control patients(4.7%,95% CI:0.67-8.67).Benign tumors of the breast(mastosis,nodules,cysts) were recorded in 75/294 patients with HCV infection(25.5%,95% CI:20.5-30.5) vs 21/107(19.6%,95% CI:12.1-27.1) in the control *** lesion was noted in 202 patients with HCV(68.7%,95% CI:63.4-74) vs 81 control patients(75.7%,95% CI:67.6-83.8).Despite a trend to an increased prevalence in the group with HCV infection,the difference was not significant compared to the control group(P=NS).In patients over 40 years,the results were,respectively,as follows:breast cancer associated with HCV:17/266 patients(6.3%,95% CI:3.4-9.3) vs 5/95 patients(5.2%,95% CI:0.7-9.7) in the control group;benign breast tumors:72/266 patients with HCV infection(27%,95% CI:21.7-32.4) vs 18/95 patients(18.9%,95% CI:11-26.8) in the control group;no breast lesion 177/266(66.5%,95% CI:60.9-72.2) in patients with HCV infection vs 72/95(75.7%,95% CI:67.1-84.4) in the control *** differences were not significant(P=NS).CONCLUSION:These results suggest that chronic HCV infectio

Semen from 10 932 male partners of infertile couples was analysed and sperm parameter trends were evaluated at the Reproduction Biology Laboratory of the University Hospital of Marseille （France） between 1988 and 2007. After 3-6 days of abstinence, semen samples were collected. Measurements of seminal fluid volume, pH, sperm concentration, total sperm count, motility and detailed morphology of spermatozoa were performed. Sperm parameters were analysed on the entire population and in men with normal total numeration （〉~ 40 million per ejaculate）. The whole population demonstrated declining trends in sperm concentration （1.5% per year）, total sperm count （1.6% per year）, total motility （0.4% per year）, rapid motility （5.5% per year） and normal morphology （2.2% per year）. In the group of selected samples with total normal sperm count, the same trends of sperm quality deterioration with time were observed. Our results clearly indicate that the auality of semen decreased in this population over the study period.
