Feasibility of the 2-point method to determine the load-velocity relationship variables during the countermovement jump exercise

Purpose:This study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of load-velocity(L-V)relationship variables obtained through the 2-point method using different load combinations and velocity ***:Twenty men performed 2 identical sessions consisting of 2 countermovement jumps against 4 external loads(20 kg,40 kg,60 kg,and80 kg)and a heavy squat against a load linked to a mean velocity(MV)of 0.55 m/s(load_(0.55)).The L-V relationship variables(load-axis intercept(L_(0)),velocity-axis intercept(v_(0)),and area under the L-V relationship line(A_(line)))were obtained using 3 velocity variables(MV,mean propulsive velocity(MPV),and peak velocity)by the multiple-point method including(20-40-60-80-load_(0.55))and excluding(20-40-60-80)the heavy squat,as well as from their respective 2-point methods(20-load_(0.55)and 20-80).results:The L-V relationship variables were obtained with an acceptable reliability(coefncient of variation(CV)≤7.30%;intra-class correlation coefficient>0.63).The reliability of L_(0)and v_(0)was comparable for both methods(CV_(ratio)(calculated as higher value/lower value):1.11-1.12),but the multiple-point method provided Al_(ine)with a greater reliability(CV_(ratio)=1.26).The use of a heavy squat provided the L-V relationship variables with a comparable or higher reliability than the use of a heavy countermovement jump load(CV_(ratio):1.06-1.19).The peak velocity provided the load-velocity relationship variables with the greatest reliability(CV_(ratio):1.15-1.86)followed by the MV(CV_(ratio):1.07-1.18),and finally the *** 2-point methods only revealed an acceptable validity for the MV and MPV(effect size≤0.19;Pearson s product-moment correlation coefficient≥0.96;Lin's concordance correlation coefficient≥0.94).Conclusion:The 2-point method obtained from a heavy squat load and MV or MPV is a quick,safe,and reliable procedure to evaluate the lower-body maximal neuromuscular capacities through the L-V relationship.

In this article,an analysis of heat transfer in a porcelain-housed ZnO surge arrester is *** to the fact that ZnO-based surge arresters are key components for protection and reliability of electrical systems,it is necessary to seek techniques to assure correct *** porcelain-housed arresters,the air gap leads to an increased thermal resistance between the ambient and the varistor ***,a thermal analysis must consider convection and radiation heat transfer mechanisms,besides heat *** study proposes the use of computational simulations in combination with thermography as a tool for a temperature-based estimation of the varistor *** the analysis,temperature rise tests were performed in a 69-kV ceramic-housed arrester to measure material emissivity and produce data to fit the simulated ***,the thermal response of the surge arresters subject to an impulsive energy input was *** simulations allow to relate varistors temperature and housing temperature with regard to a specified amount of dissipated *** obtained results show that the used technique can be an effective method for arrester monitoring and may allow to define assessing criteria for a porcelain-housed arrester based on housing temperature measurements.

Peripheral and mesenteric serum levels of CEA and cytokeratins,staging and histopathological variables in colorectal adenocarcinoma

AIM： To evaluate the differences that exist bet- ween peripheral and mesenteric serum levels of carcinoembryonic antigen （CEA） and cytokeratins in patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma. METHODS： One hundred and thirty-eight patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma who underwent surgery at Hospital Sao Paulo （Discipline of Surgical Gastroenterology of UNIFESP-EPM） between December 1993 and March 2000 were retrospectively analyzed. Differences between CEA and cytokeratin （TPA-M） levels in peripheral blood （P） and in mesenteric blood （M） were studied. Associations were investigated between peripheral and mesenteric levels and the staging and histopathological variables （degree of cell differentiation, macroscopic appearance, tumor dimensions and presence of lymphatic and venous invasion）. rESULTS： Differences were observed in the numerical values of the marker levels： CEA （M）（39.10 mg/1 ± 121.19 mg/L） vs CEA （P）（38.5 mg/L ± 122.55 mg/L）, P 〈 0.05; TPA-M （M）（325.06 U/L ±527.29 U/L） vs TPA-M （P）（279.48 U/L ±455.81 U/L）, P 〈 0.01. The mesenteric CEA levels were higher in more advanced tumors （P 〈 0.01）, in vegetating lesions （34.44 mg/L ± 93.07 mg/L）（P 〈 0.01） and with venous invasion （48.41 mg/L ± 129.86 mg/L）（P 〈 0.05）. Peripheral CEA was higher with more advanced staging （P 〈 0.01）and in lesions with venous invasion （53.23 mg/L ± 258.57 mg/L）（P 〈 0.05）. The patients demonstrated increased mesenteric and peripheral TPA-M levels with more advanced tumors （P 〈 0.01 and P 〈 0.01） and in non-ulcerated lesions [530.45 U/L =1= 997.46 U/L （P 〈 0.05） and 457.95 U/L ± 811.36 U/L （P 〈 0.01）]. CONCLUSION： The mesenteric levels of the tumor markers CEA and cytokeratins were higher than the peripheral levels in these colorectal adenocarcinoma patients, Higher levels of these biologic tumor markers are associated with an advanced state of cancerous dissemination

Causes and consequences of microsatellite instability in gastric carcinogenesis

Loss of DNA mismatch repair(MMr) function, due to somatic or germline epi/genetic alterations of MMr genes leads to the accumulation of numerous mutations across the genome, creating a molecular phenotype known as microsatellite instability(MSI). In gastric cancer(g C), MSI occurs in about 15% to 30% of the cases. This review summarizes the current knowledge on the molecular mechanisms underlying the acquisition of MSI in g C as well as on the clinic, pathologic and molecular consequences of the MSI phenotype. Additionally, current therapeutic strategies for g C and their applicability in the MSI subset are also discussed.

The herbicide diuron is widely used in agricultural areas in Brazil, whereas it has high potential for subsurface water contamination due to its physicochemical characteristics. recent studies have demonstrated the potential of biochar as a sorbent and possible pesticide leaching mitigation. The objective of this study was to investigate the long-term effect of biochar application on the kinetics of sorption and desorption of diuron in a Cerrado Haplic Plinthosol. Samples were collected in an experiment conducted in the field in a randomized block design consisting of the combination of two levels of fertilizer application (0 and 300 kg ha −1 of 5-25-15 formula of NPK fertilizers) and three doses of biochar (0, 16, and 32 Mg ha −1 ). The Freundlich isotherm accurately described the sorption of diuron in all treatments. Biochar application increased the sorption and reduced the desorption of diuron. This effect was attributed to the contribution of biochar to total organic carbon (C) and C in the humin fraction and to the increase in the reactivity of the humic acid and humin fractions, which was significantly highly correlated with the sorption coefficient ( K f ). A positive correlation between the partition coefficient of organic C and K f confirmed the importance of the soil organic compartment for the sorption of diuron. The higher diuron sorption and lower diuron desorption capacities of sandy soils after biochar application could reduce the potential risk of diuron leaching and contamination of subsurface water.

Hydrocarbons in particulate samples from wildfire events in central Portugal in summer 2010

In summer 2010, twenty eight （14 PM=2.5 samples plus 14 samples PM2.5-10） smoke samples were collected during wildfires that occurred in central Portugal. A portable high-volume sampler was used to perform the sampling, on quartz fibre filters of coarse （PM=2.5-10） and fine （PM2.5） smoke samples. The carbonaceous content （elemental and organic carbon） of particulate matter was analysed by a thermal-optical technique. Subsequently, the particulate samples were solvent extracted and fractionated by vacuum flash chromatog- raphy into three different classes of organic compounds （aliphatics, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons （PAHs） and carbonyl compounds）. The organic speciation was performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC-MS）. Emissions were dominated by the fine particles, which represented around 92% of the PM10. A clear predominance of carbonaceous constituents was observed, with organic to elemental carbon （OC/EC） ratios ranging between 1.69 and 245 in both size fractions. The isoprenoid ketone 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone, a tracer for secondary organic aerosol formation, was one of the dominant constituents in both fine and coarse particles. retene was the most abundant compound in all samples. Good correlations were obtained between OC and both aliphatic and PAH compounds. Pyrogenic processes, thermal release of biogenic com- pounds and secondary processing accounted for 97% of the apportioned PM2.5 levels.

Dialysis plays a crucial role in the purification of nanomaterials but its impact on the structural properties of carbon nanomaterials was never ***,a carbon-based nanomaterial generated electrochemically in potassium phosphate buffer,was characterized before and after dialysis against pure *** is shown that dialysis affects the size of the carbon domains,structural organization,surface functionalization,oxidation degree of carbon,and grade of ***,dialysis drives the nanomaterial organization from discrete roundish carbon domains,with sizes ranging from 70 to 160 nm,towards linear stacking structures of small nanoparticles(rallel,alcohol and ether(epoxide)surface groups evolve into more oxidized carbon groups(e.g.,ketone and ester groups).Investigation of the as-prepared nanomaterial by electron paramagnetic resonance(EPr)revealed a resonance signal consistent with carbon-oxygen centred ***,this study brings to light the selective affinity of the carbon nanomaterial under study to capture Na^(+)ions,a property greatly enhanced by the dialysis process,and its high ability to trap oxygen,particularly before *** findings open new perspectives for the application of carbon-based nanomaterials and raise awareness of the importance of structural changes that can occur during the purification of carbon-based nanomaterials.
