The present paper shows the development of a strategy for the calculation of the air brake forces of European freight trains. The model is built to upgrade the existing Politecnico di Torino longitudinal train dynamics(LTD) code LTDPoliTo, which was originally unable to account for air brake forces. The proposed model uses an empirical exponential function to calculate the air brake forces during the simulation, while the maximum normal force on the brake friction elements is calculated according to the indication of the vehicle braked weight ***, the model does not require to simulate in detail the fluid dynamics in the brake pipe nor to precisely know the main parameters of the braking system mounted on each vehicle. The model parameters are tuned to minimize the difference between the braking distance computed by the LTDPoliTo code and the value prescribed by the UIC544-1 leaflet in emergency braking operations. Simulations are run for different configurations of freight train compositions including a variable number of Shimmns wagons trailed by an E402B locomotive at the head of the train, as suggested in a reference literature paper. The results of the proposed method are in good agreement with the target braking distances calculated according to the international rules.

Nowadays,the interest in hybrid vehicles is constantly increasing,not only in the automotive sector,but also in other transportation systems,to reduce pollution and emissions and to improve the overall efficiency of the *** railway vehicles are typically the most eco-friendly transportation system,since commonly their primary energy source is electricity,they can still gain benefits from hybrid technologies,as many lines worldwide are not *** fact,hybrid solutions allow ICEpowered(internal combustion engine)railway vehicles,such as diesel multiple units(DMUs),to operate in fullelectric mode even when the track lacks *** possibility to switch to full electric mode is of paramount importance when the vehicle runs on urban or underground track sections,where low or zero emission levels are *** conduct the feasibility study of hybridization of an existing DMU vehicle,designed by Blue Engineering S.r.l.,running on the Aosta–Torino Italian railway line,which includes a non-electrified urban track section and an electrified underground *** hybridization is obtained by replacing one of the diesel generators installed on the original vehicle with a battery pack,which ensures the vehicle to operate in full-electric mode to complete its mission *** hybridization is also exploited to implement a regenerative braking strategy,which allows an increase in the energetical efficiency of the vehicle up to 18%.This work shows the sizing of the battery pack based on dynamic simulations performed on the Turin underground track section,and the results demonstrate the feasibility of the hybridization process.

Railway infrastructure relies on the dynamic interaction between wheels and rails;thus,assessing wheel wear is a critical aspect of maintenance and *** paper focuses on the wheel-rail wear indicator T-gamma(Tγ).Amidst its use,it becomes apparent that Tγ,while valuable,fails to provide a comprehensive reflection of the actual material removal and actual contact format,which means that using only Tγas a target for optimization of profiles is not *** this work,three different freight wagons are evaluated:a meter-gauge and a broad-gauge heavy haul vehicles from South American railways,and a standard-gauge freight vehicle operated in Europe,with different axle loads and dissimilar new wheel/rail *** vehicles are subjected to comprehensive multibody simulations on various *** simulations aimed to elucidate the intricate relationship between different wear indicators:Tγ,wear index,material removal,and maximum wear depth,under diverse curves,non-compensated lateral accelerations(A_(nc)),and *** findings showed a correlation of 0.96 between Tγand wear depth and 0.82 between wear index and material removed for the outer *** the results,the Tγis better than the wear index to be used when analyzing wear depth while the wear index is more suited to foresee the material *** results also show the low influence of A_(nc)on wear index and Tγ.By considering these factors together,the study aims to improve the understanding of wheel-rail wear by selecting the best wear analysis approaches based on the effectiveness of each parameter.

软实力已成为大国用来实现其外交政策目标以展示其全球影响力的最重要工具之一。中国作为新兴大国也参与到了这一大国之间的全球竞争中。将软实力作为实现自身愿景的手段之一,通过设置奖学金项目吸引非洲国家学生尤其是肯尼亚学生来华留学,这些教育交流项目就是文化外交的核心保护伞。事实上,留学生通过教育交流项目不仅能够学习东道国的语言和文化,而且能与当地普通民众密切交流互动。因此,本文的研究目的是探讨文化外交在提升东道国形象和声誉方面的作用,为此,本文考察了中国政府采取何种方式,将文化外交和教育项目实践作为替代多元文化理解、塑造国家间信任和提升国家形象的软实力工具。本文致力于回答以下问题:教育交流项目在多大程度上影响了肯尼亚留学生对于中国国家形象的看法?此外,本文还试图探讨中国文化是否对接受者产生了积极影响使其愿意主动融入?研究显示,文化外交在争夺国际话语权中具有重要作用。中国为赢得国际声誉和塑造国家形象,采取特殊政策、推进大量项目落地实施,大力吸引留学生来华,一方面为非洲学生提供奖学金作为其对非洲大陆教育支持的一部分,另一方面在非洲本土建立许多教育机构,特别是在肯尼亚。中国政府于2016年在内罗毕大学设立孔子学院,全面开展汉语教学和中国文化传播及普及工作,中国在肯尼亚的国家形象因而得到改善,普通民众对华看法比较积极;与此同时,在中国留学的肯尼亚学生十分认同中国的教育体制,对有着超过5000年历史的古老中华文化感到崇敬。此外,中国在肯尼亚建立了大量学校,并设立不同机构为肯尼亚政府官员提供培训课程,上述所有做法都是由两国领导人的良性沟通和两国外交合作议程推动的。本文的研究意义在于为发展两国双边关系提供新的视角,明确文化外交服务两国人民、对实现两国人民相互理解和维护两国共同利益的重要性,同时本研究也为两国政策制定者提供有价值的参考,更深入地认识到两国教育交流项目对两国未来几代人的重要性以及对树立中国在肯尼亚的良好形象的积极意义。全文共分五章,第一章为绪论。首先介绍了文化外交概念及其工具,如中国政府采用教育交流项目作为软实力工具,以提升在非洲国家尤其是肯尼亚的国家形象,这也是本文的研究意义。其次是本文的研究方法,笔者收集该课题相关信息的方法包括案例回顾和问卷调查,笔者给在中国不同大学学习的150名肯尼亚学生发放有关中国文化对肯尼亚学生影响的调查问卷,共收到75份有效回复。最后,我们将总结研究一些有关软实力的文献以及许多国家利用文化作为工具来提升其在国际舞台上的地位形象的相关研究。本文第二章确立以美国学者约瑟夫·奈的软实力理论为基础的理论框架。第一节阐述了软实力及其实施途径。约瑟夫·奈对软实力的定义是文化外交政策的权力和组织权力,软实力的实施途径则包括软实力、自由主义与合作。本章第二节介绍中国发挥软实力的方式,中国政府通过建立孔子学院来增强其对外国民众的文化联系和提升本国国家形象,在全球范围内建立大量孔子学院教授汉语并举办活动。最后,我们讨论中国对于公共外交的看法和理解:中国突出与其他国家公众的互动、主动倡导公共外交。近年来,中国领导人开展说服研究等活动,努力发挥国家软实力,并将软实力作为提升中国在世界舞台国家形象的重要工具。第三章论述中国在非洲特别是肯尼亚文化外交的成果。中国作为崛起中的大国,正在国际舞台上追求权力、利益和声誉。纵观历史,大国始终处于争夺权力和主导国际事务的竞争中。本章以不同的国际关系研究方法论述这场竞争,除物质实力外,软实力也很重要。中国在非洲特别是肯尼亚展示了其运用软实力的高效性,通过与所有非洲国家建立友好关系,为非洲国家提供援助和人道主义支持,中国在非洲特别是肯尼亚的软实力得以迅速提高,这是建立中非合作论坛以来,构建非中外交友好战略关系的成果。与西方大国相比,中国在非洲的软实力优势来自友好关系的建立,而非干涉非洲国家内政,中非关系是基于尊重主权和领土完整原则基础之上的。中国政府通过高等教育体系采取“中国软实力战略”,为来华学习和研究的非洲学生提供奖学金,从而提高中国在非洲的国家形象。除了为肯尼亚学生实力设立奖学金和培训外,中国还为肯尼亚教育事业做出其它贡献:例如建立了许多学校和学术中心,如中国肯尼亚友谊小学,以及其他许多旨在解决肯尼亚教育结构问题的项目。另一方面,2016年中国在肯尼亚建立孔子学院,旨在举办体现中国文化的活动,促进中肯合作和汉语教学。第四章介绍中国教育奖学金项目对肯尼亚来华留学生的影响。本章采用了来自调查问卷的定性数据,通过向肯尼亚中国奖学金受益人(CSC)发放问卷调查,调查教育项目对肯尼亚留学生的影响。数据显示,教育项目在提升中国形象和宣传中国文化中有一定作用,获得大量积极评价。首先,在学术活动的推动下,中国在肯尼亚的形象得以迅速提升,尤其在开启留学生在中华学习生涯后,积极意义更为明显,这表明学术援助对提升中国

Cabazitaxel in castration resistant prostate cancer with brain metastases: 3 case reports

Prostate cancer is the most common non-cutaneous malignancy for men. The skeleton is the most common metastatic site but, following an improvement in survival, metastases in uncommon sites are being found more frequently in clinical practice, especially brain metastases. Despite the new drugs now available for metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer, no clinical evidence exists about their effectiveness on brain metastases. We describe the clinical history of 3 patients treated with cabazitaxel plus whole brain radiotherapy. These case reports demonstrate that cabazitaxel is highly active and well tolerated in brain metastases.

The differential diagnosis of chest pain, one of the most frequent symptoms referred in the emergency department, includes cardiac and noncardiac causes and represents a difficult challenge for clinicians. Noncardiac chest pain can be defined as the recurrence of chest pain episodes indistinguishable from coronary events after the exclusion of a cardiac cause. It may be of musculoskeletal, pulmonary, gastroenterological, psychosomatic or neurological aetiology, oesophageal disorders representing the most common detectable cause. In this report we describe a rare case of chest pain which appeared after dinner, due to an oesophageal spasm caused by the anomalous course of the carotid arteries. The case is relevant because it describes a very uncommon variant of the physiological course of the carotid arteries, and because it is unusual that a retro thoracic vascular abnormality can be related to the appearance of chest pain without dysphagia. Chest pain which appears after dinner in our case is probably due to the unusual anatomic connection between oesophagus and carotid arteries that probably begins to make stronger when the patient undertakes the supine position: for that reason nocturnal chest pain promptly relieves after the assumption of orthostatic or semi orthostatic decubitus. In conclusion, in a patient who refers the sudden appearance of nocturnal chest pain certainly unrelated to coronary artery disease, the physicians should consider the involvement of oesophageal system, maybe determined by vascular course abnormalities.
