Ammonia recovery from wastewater is crucial,yet technology of low carbon emission and high ammonia perm-selectivity against complex stream compositions is urgently ***,a membrane-based hybrid process of the Donnan dialysiseelectrodialysis process(DDeED)was proposed for sustainable and efficient ammonia *** principle,DD removes the majority of ammonia in wastewater by exploring the concentration gradient of NH4 t and driven cation(Nat)across the cation exchange membrane,given industrial sodium salt as a driving *** additional ED stage driven by solar energy realizes a further removal of ammonia,recovery of driven cation,and replenishment of OHtoward ammonia *** results demonstrated that the hybrid DDeED process achieved ammonia removal efficiency>95%,driving cation(Nat)recovery efficiency>87.1%for synthetic streams,and reduced the OH-loss by up to 78%compared to a standalone DD *** fluxes of 98.2 gN m^(-2)d^(-1)with the real anaerobic digestion effluent were observed using only solar energy input at 3.8 kWh kgN^(-1).With verified mass transfer modeling,reasonably controlled operation,and beneficial recovery performance,the hybrid process can be a promising candidate for future nutrient recovery from wastewater in a rural,remote area.

A New Approach to Reducing Mortality from Dengue

In 2009, based on a multicenter study conducted in Asia and Latin Americaand subsidized by the Dengue Control (DENCO) Research Program, the World Health Organization (WHO) proposed a new classification for dengue cases. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the applicability of the new classification, relative to its previous version [1]. The evaluation, conducted in Campo Grande county, Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil, drew on secondary data from referral healthcare centers that assist high-severity dengue patients. A total of 156 medical records of patients with laboratory diagnosis of dengue were investigated. The records covered two epidemic periods: summer of 2006-2007 and summer of 2009-2010. The results showed that 64.6% of cases classified as dengue fever under the 1997 criteria presented manifestations of severity, warranting their reclassification as dengue with warning signs (49) or severe dengue (15) under the 2009 revised criteria. Bleeding, persistent vomiting, and severe, continuous abdominal pain were the most prevalent warning signs, indicative of risk of progression to severe disease. The revised classification was proved less complex than the current version, facilitating the identification of cases and the clinical management of patients.

Qigong in the treatment of children with autism spectrum disorder:A systematic review

Background: Autism spectrum disorder is a condition that affects all races, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. With a high incidenee ratio of one in every 68, it has become one of the most discussed psychiatric disorders. For this reason, the need for investigating novel treatments has been emerging. Qigong, a traditional Chinese mind-body technique, has already proven to be able to reduce symptoms of several physical and psychological illnesses. Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to examine and categorize the current scientific evidence regarding the efficacy of Qigong on children suffering from autism spectrum disorders. Search strategy: A systematic literature search of the electronic scientific databases PubMed, Clinical ***, BioMed Central, PubMed Central and Google Scholar was performed to identify studies of Qigong in the treatment of children with autism spectrum disorder. Inclusion criteria: This review included randomized controlled trials, replication studies, retrospective studies and observational follow-up studies of Qigong on children with autism spectrum disorder. Case reports and case series were excluded. Data extraction and analysis: Two researchers independently evaluated the methodological quality of all included studies. Any discrepancies were solved by discussion until consensus was achieved. Results: Our literature search identified 157 publications, and 10 additional publications from hand search of references. After duplicate removal, 103 records remained. After the title/abstract screening, 19 publications were obtained for detailed evaluation. After detailed evaluation, 10 studies were included. Seven studies were conducted with small children with 2-6 years old employing Qigong massage, and three studies were con ducted with older children aged 7-17 years old applying both Qigong massage (one study) and Neigong (two studies). 3D printed millireactors for process intensification

The scope of the present research aims at demonstrating the 3D printing use in the manufacturing of microchannels for chemical process applications. A comparison among digital model processing applications for 3D print(slicers) and a print layer thickness analysis were performed. The 3D print fidelity was verified in several devices, including the microchannels’ printing with and without micromixer zones. In order to highlight the 3D print potential in Chemical Engineering, the biodiesel synthesis was also carried out in a millireactor manufactured by 3D printing. The millireactor operated under laminar flow regime with a total flow rate of 75.25 ml·min^-1(increment of about 130 times over traditional microdevices used for biodiesel production).The printed millireactor provided a maximum yield of Ethyl Esters of 73.51% at 40 ℃, ethanol:oil molar ratio of7 and catalyst concentration of 1.25 wt% and residence time about 10 s. As a result of flow rate increment attained in the millireactor, the number of required units for scaling-up the chemical processes is reduced. Using the approach described in the present research, anyone could produce their own millireactor for chemical process in a simple way with the aid of a 3D printer.

Enhancement of seed germination in Macaranga peltata for use in tropical forest restoration

We used pre-sowing treatments v/z., soaking seeds in concen- trated sulphudc acid （CSA）, gibberellic acid （GA）, combined treatment of CSA ＋ GA and mechanical scarification to overcome seed dormancy and enhance synchronous germination of Macaranga peltata seeds. We analysed percent seed germination data by logistic regression and con- finned that except in GA treatment, time and acid concentration together were crucial for enhancing germination. The combination treatment of CSA and GA resulted in higher percent germination （up to 74%） than either treatment used separately, but produced defective seedlings （26%）. Mechanical scarification of seed coat had the greatest impact in enhanc- ing germination （78%） and reducing imbibition time （6 days） against the control （0%）. Germination studies and SEM analysis confirmed that seed germination in M. peltata was inhibited by seed coat dormancy.

Seismic fragility assessment of revised MRT buildings considering typical construction changes

The present study investigates the vulnerability assessment of the prototype revised Mandatory Rule of Thumb(MRT)buildings initially designed and detailed for three storeys bare frame building;later modified through variable number of storeys(three,four,and five)and different arrangement of infill walls(bare frame,soft-storey,irregular infilled,and fully infilled).The application of infill walls increases the fundamental frequencies,stiffness,and maximum strength capacity,but reduces the deformation capability than the bare frame *** vulnerability was also reduced through infill walls,where the probability of exceeding partial-collapse and collapse damage reduced by 80% and 50%,***,the increased in storeys(three to five)also increases the failure probability,such that partial-collapse and collapse for fully infilled increases by almost 55% and 80%,*** obtained results and discussions concluded that the structural sections and details assigned for MRT building is not sufficient if considered as bare frame and *** increase in number of storeys causes building highly vulnerable although the infill walls were considered.

Pork Meat Quality of Preto Alentejano and Commercial Largewhite Landrace Cross

This work aimed to evaluate the physical-chemical characteristics of pork from a local breed （Portuguese black pork called Preto Alentejano） and a commercial breed. Sixteen animals were used, 4 females and 4 males from each breed. Animals had 80-100 kg of live weight. The longissimus muscle between the 5th thoracic vertebra and the 10th lumbar vertebra was used in the analysis. Samples were analysed for protein, fat, pigments, ashes, dry mater, water-holding capacity, and texture. Results of fat and pigments contents indicate signiifcant （P〈0.05 and P〈0.01） differences for all treatments. For protein, ashes, dry mater, water-holding capacity and texture, no signiifcant differences were found for sex. In the analysis of fatty acids composition, ten were detected, being the main ones C16：0, C18：0, C16：1, C18：1, C18：2. There was a predominance of monounsaturated fatty acids （MUFA）, followed by saturated （SFA） and polyunsaturated （PUFA）. Differences were signiifcant for sex （P〈0.01） and breed （P〈0.01）. Preto Alentejano breed and females presented the higher percentages of SFA （P〈0.01） and MUFA （P〈0.001） fatty acids. Differences between breeds might be due to breed production system and feed differences.

This paper presents new results for strong solutions and their coincidence sets of the obstacle problem for linear hyperbolic operators of first order. An inequality similar to the LewyStampacchia ones for elliptic and parabolic problems is shown. Under nondegeneracy conditions the stability of the coincidence set is shown with respect to the variation of the data and with respect to approximation by semilinear hyperbolic problems. These results are applied to the asymptotic stability of the evolution problem with respect to the stationary coercive problem with obstacle.

A theoretical study on the electron drift velocity and electron nonequilibrium temperature of indium nitride(InN)is *** is based on a nonlinear quantum kinetic theory which provides a description of the dissipative phenomena developing in the *** ultrafast time evolution of the electron drift velocity and electron nonequilibrium temperature is obtained,and overshoot effects are evidenced on both of *** overshoot onsets are shown to occur at 4 kV/cm,electric field intensity which is considerably smaller than those recently derived by resorting to Monte Carlo simulations.

Ruthenium promotion of Co/SBA-15 catalysts for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis in slurry-phase reactors

The aim of this work was to evaluate the catalytic properties of a Ru promoted Co/SBA-15 catalyst for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis （FTS）. The Ru promoted Co/SBA-15 catalyst was prepared by wet impregnation method and was characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray energy dispersion spectrophotometer, N2 adsorption-desorption, temperature-programmed reduction and transmission electron microscopy. The Fischer-Tropsch synthesis using the catalyst was carried out to evaluate the catalyst activity and its effect on FTS product distribution. The synthesis was carried out in a slurry reactor operating at 513 K, 20 atm, CO ： H2 molar ratio of 1 ： 1. X-ray diffraction showed that the calcined cobalt catalyst did not modify the structure of SBA-15, proving that Co was present in the form of Co3O4 in the catalyst. The addition of cobalt in SBA-15 decreased the specific superficial area of the molecular sieve. Fischer-Tropsch synthesis activity and C5＋ hydrocarbon selectivity increased with the addition of Ru. The increases in activity and selectivity were attributed to the increased number of active sites resulting from higher reducibility and the synergetic effect of Ru and Co. Ru/Co/SBA-15 catalysts showed moderate conversion （40%） and high selectivity towards the production of C5＋（80 wt%）.
