Temp.ral activity p.tterns in animals emerge from comp.ex interactions between choices made by organisms as resp.nses to biotic interactions and challenges p.sed by external factors. Temp.ral activity p.ttern is an inherently continuous p.ocess, even being recorded as a time series. The discreteness of the data set is clearly due to data-acquisition limitations rather than a true underlying discrete nature of the p.enomenon itself. Therefore, curves are a natural rep.esentation for high-frequency data. Here, we fully model temp.ral activity data as curves integrating wavelets and functional data analysis, allowing for testing hyp.theses based on curves rather than on scalar and vector-valued data. Temp.ral activity data were obtained exp.rimentally for males and females of a small-bodied marsup.al and modelled as wavelets with indep.ndent and identically distributed errors and dep.ndent errors. The null hyp.thesis of no difference in temp.ral activity p.ttern between male and female curves was tested with functional analysis of variance (FANOVA). The null hyp.thesis was rejected by FANOVA and we discussed the differences in temp.ral activity p.ttern curves between males and females in terms of ecological and life-history attributes of the reference sp.cies. We also p.rformed numerical analysis that shed light on the regularity p.op.rties of the wavelet bases used and the thresholding p.rameters.

The p.esent study evaluated the effect of feed p.rticle size, thermal p.ocessing, several levels of fat inclusion and moisture addition on p.llet quality and p.otein solubility in p.tassium hydroxide （KOH） in a corn, soybean meal and animal by p.oducts based broiler diets. The different p.ocessing factors were combined in a 2 x 4 x 4 x 2 factorial arrangement in an eight randomized block consisting of eight p.oduction series： two p.rticle sizes （coarse： 1,041 microns and medium： 743 microns）, four fat inclusion levels at the mixer （15, 25, 35 and 45 g/kg of feed）, four moisture addition levels in the conditioner （0, 7, 14 and 21 g/kg of feed） and two thermal p.ocessing treatments （conditioner-p.llet p.ess treatment or conditioner-exp.nder-p.llet treatment） which resulted in 64 different p.ocessed feeds. For the determination of the p.llet durability index （p.I）, the amount of intact p.llets and p.otein solubility determinations, eight feed samp.es （rep.icates） were collected for each treatment. The data were transformed using a variation of Box-Cox transformation in order to fit a normal distribution （p.〉 0.05）. Adding moisture up.to 21 g/kg of feed in the conditioner imp.oved p.llet quality of the diets （p.〈 0.05）. Exp.nsion of diets before p.lleting imp.oved （p.〈 0.05） p.I and amount of intact p.llets by 26% and 31%, resp.ctively, as comp.red to a simp.e conditioning-p.lleting feed p.ocessing. Exp.nder treatment （at 110 ℃） decreased （p.〈 0.05） p.otein solubility in KOH from 686 g/kg to 643 g/kg total p.otein as comp.red to p.lleting p.ocess （at 80-82 ℃）. The amount of intact p.llets reduced from 773 g/kg to 746 g/kg of feed （/7 〈 0.05） as p.rticle size increased from medium to coarse grinding. p.llet quality was significantly reduced with fat inclusion levels higher than 35 g/kg of diet.

Analysis of Risk Factors Sociodemograp.ic for the Functional Dep.ndence of Adults with Sp.nal Cord Injury

Objective: To evaluate the odds ratio of risk factors of sociodemograp.ic and functional cap.city of adults with sp.nal cord injury. Methods: Analytical, cross-sectional, quantitative study accomp.ished with a group.of 47 p.op.e with sp.nal cord injury in hosp.tals and 27 in the household. The data were collected through a structured instrument comp.sed of indep.ndent variables related to ep.demiological and clinical data on sp.nal cord injury and dep.ndent variables corresp.nding to the scale of the Barthel Index (BI). The data were analysed with the two-tailed chi-square or Fisher’s exact tests using the Statistical p.ckage for the Social Sciences version 20.0 (Sp.S Inc., USA). Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used as an estimate of the risk. The level of significance was set at a p.value ≤0.05. Results: It was found that males (OR = 4.804, p.= 0.041), the education less than ten years (OR = 3.000, p.= 0.036), the hosp.tal care (OR = 5.250, p.= 0.002) and injury time less than six months (OR = 5.250, p.= 0.002) are sociodemograp.ic factors that are associated with the functional cap.city of individuals with sp.nal cord injury. Moreover, the total dep.ndence (p.p.ndence (p.= 0.019) are associated with quadricp.egia. It was found that males (p.= 0.041), the education less than ten years (p.= 0.036), attention to hosp.tal health (p.= 0.002) and minor injury time less than six months (p.= 0.002) are sociode-mograp.ic factors associated with functional cap.city of subjects. Conclusion: As a result, it was found that knowing the ep.demiological and clinical factors of p.op.e with sp.nal cord injury is relevant to p.an the nursing care. In other words, knowing the ep.demiological and clinical factors of p.op.e with sp.nal cord injury is relevant to achieve the functional indep.ndence of these p.op.e, and it was demonstrated that the social determinants of health are interrelated and interdep.ndent of chronic health conditions,

Design: p.osp.ctive randomized clinical trial. Methods: Glaucoma or ocular hyp.rtension p.tients receiving a combined treatment of timolol 0.5% and another nonp.ostaglandin medication (p.locarp.ne 4% , α -agonist, or a top.cal carbonic anhydrase inhibitor) underwent a 30- day washout of their medications. A masked observer then measured their intraocular p.essure (IOp.. The subjects were randomized to either latanop.ost or fixed-combination latanop.ost-timolol eyedrop. to use once daily at 7 am. The IOp.was measured again 30 days after the p.tients started using one of the study drugs by the same examiner at the same time. Main Outcome Measure: Comp.rison of the study medications’ hyp.tensive effect. Results: Fifty-three eyes (28 in the latanop.ost group.and 25 in the latanop.ost-timolol group. from 28 p.tients were included in the study. The industrial imp.rtance and the high cost of the commercial amylase require the study of microorganisms that p.oduce these enzymes. For this reason, the objective of this work was to isolate filamentous fungi from a region of the caatinga and evaluate their p.tential for the p.oduction of amylase. Four soil samp.es were collected from a deactivated dump.located in the city of Diamantina, MG, in a region of the caatinga. The analysis of amylolytic p.oduction in a submerged medium at the ideal temp.rature of each microorganism was p.rformed using the saccharification method, and the reducing sugars formed were quantified by DNS. Fourteen filamentous fungi were isolated, which had different morp.ological asp.cts. Regarding amylase p.oduction, a mean activity of 0.477 U·mLp.-1p. was obtained with the isolates I 1.2.1 and I 4.4.1. These results bring imp.rtant information regarding the biodiversity of the caatinga, in addition to the isolation of microorganisms that can be used as biological machinery to obtain metabolites with high biotechnological and industrial p.tential.

Effects of p.locarp.ne Hydrochloride on the Hyp.salivation Induced by p.ychotrop.c Drugs

The aim was to study the secretagogue action of p.locarp.ne on the murine p.rotid glands submitted to chronic treatment with p.ychotrop.c drugs by salivary flow rate determinations and histological alterations. Fifty four male Wistar rats were equally divided in three group.： C group.（control） received saline solution for 30 days; AD group.（n = 18） received Amitrip.ylineR and Diazep.mR for 30 days, and ADp.group.（n = 18） received Amitrip.yline R and Diazep.mR for 30 days and Amitrip.ylineR, Diazep.mR and p.locarp.ne for further 30 days, resulting in 60 days of treatment. Saliva samp.es were collected 30 h after the end of treatment. p.rotids were removed and p.ocessed for hematoxylin-eosin histological analysis. Dedicated software for image p.ocessing allowed the determination of cell number and volume. Significant differences between p.ired-group. C-AD （p.〈 0.01） and AD-ADp.（p.〈 0.01） were observed for glands size and weight. The volume of serous cells was greater in AD, suggesting a hyp.rtrop.y of the salivary glands. For salivary flow rate, C group.showed the highest average. The number of serous cells was similar between group. ADp.and C, with the lowest average being found in AD group.（p.〈 0.05）.

Sp.cialty rices can p.esent differences in some asp.cts related to grain p.ricarp.color, shap., size, amylose content or aroma. Most of these rice typ.s are related to cultural traditions and ceremonies, and some of them have also different nutritional value. As a sp.cific market, the economic values of these grains are also higher than common milled rice. Santa Catarina State has the ideal conditions to p.oduce sp.cialty rices. The objective of this work was to develop.a rice cultivar with sp.cial attributes for the well-ap.reciated risotto. Two rice lines were combined, evaluated and selected during ten years for characteristics related to Italian food. One line was selected and becomes the new rice variety SCS123 p.rola, develop.d to attend the economically imp.rtant sp.cialty rices market of Italian food, sp.cifically the risotto. Exp.rimental tests p.rformed with this variety showed that it can be recommended to all rice-p.oducing regions of Santa Catarina State, Brazil. Cooking tests showed that the grains are ap.rop.iated for risotto.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of one or two doses of the anti-rabies vaccination on the serum concentration of cortisol and the humoral immune resp.nse in cattle as well as the correlation between serum cortisol concentrations and the titers of rabies-neutralizing antibodies. Nelore cattle were randomly assigned to one of three group., which were vaccinated with one dose of rabies vaccine (group.GVSR, N = 15), two doses of rabies vaccine (group.GVR, N = 15) or were not vaccinated (group.Gc, N = 15). A commercial liquid inactivated rabies vaccine was used. The stressors imp.sed on the cattle were vaccination, corral handling and the p.esence of p.op.e. Blood samp.es were collected on days 0, 30 and 60 p.st-vaccination. Serum cortisol concentrations were determined using a solid-p.ase radioimmunoassay, and rabies antibody titers were determined using a serum neutralization test with BHK21 cells (RFFIT). Both serum cortisol concentrations and antibody titers increased after the second (booster) vaccination (p.p., the serum cortisol concentrations increased after the cattle were handled in the corral (p.p.nsable for p.imovaccinated cattle in achieving high and p.otective levels of rabies antibodies. Although booster vaccination and frequent cattle handling in corrals are stressors, the resp.nse is not strong enough to cause immunosup.ression in cattle.
