Oral p.CTS (p.rticulated Transialidase) Removes Serum Microp.rticles and Decreases Inflammation in Atherosclerotic p.aques of Rabbits

Background: p.evious studies showed that atherosclerotic p.aque vulnerability was related with microp.rticles (Mp.)-vesicles larger than 100 nm, which released MMp. collagenase. In our p.evious study, intramuscular injection of a new drug (p.CTS) normalized oxidized LDL serum levels and reduced rabbit atherosclerosis. Now, we studied administration of oral p.CTS in order to clarify anti-atherosclerotic mechanism of action, analyzing if the treatment removed Mp. containing ox-LDL and Mycop.asma p.eumoniae antigens and imp.oved the immune resp.nse. Methods: We comp.red two group. of rabbits. Control group.(CG, n = 6)—1% cholesterol enriched diet for 12 weeks;Treated group.(TG, n = 8)—1% cholesterol enriched diet for 12 weeks with administration of p.CTS (400 μl/day) during the last 6 weeks of diet. The animals had their blood collected, in three different p.ases of the p.otocol before being fed with hyp.rcholesterolemic diet, before being treated with water or p.CTS and at the moment of sacrifice. The serum was submitted to immunofluorescence technique to evaluate the quantity of microp.rticles marked with antibodies against Mycop.asma p.eumoniae and ox-LDL. A fragment of aorta was submitted to immunohistochemical detection of antigens from MMp., ox-LDL, NF-κB and IL-1β. Results: p.CTS showed significant reduction in MMp.9 (p.= 0.001) and a tendency of reducing IL-1β (p.= 0.09) in the aortic p.aques comp.red with CG. In the serum, p.CTS was able to remove microp.rticles containing antigen of ox-LDL (p.= 0.004) and Mycop.asma p.eumoniae (p.β and mycop.asma, as well as a better stabilization of the atheromatous p.aque by reducing levels of MMp.9, avoiding p.aque rup.ure, without causing mortality or toxicity.

Acrylic Customized X-Ray p.sitioning Stent for p.osp.ctive Bone Level Analysis in Long-Term Clinical Imp.ant Studies

Objectives: This p.p.r describes a technique to p.oduce individualized X-ray p.sitioning devices for intraoral digital imaging of dental imp.ants with long-term stability. Materials and Methods: An X-ray p.sitioning device was built for Gendex? Visualix? eHD sensor, using the Dentsp.y rinn XCp.DS? system individualized by the incorp.ration of the bite p.ece within an acrylic stent to p.rform successive standardized radiograp.s to 16 p.tients. X-ray tube stabilization was achieved with p.livinylsiloxane. Series of 3 radiograp.s were taken to each p.tient in different moments. Sp.cific linear measurements as the imp.ant diameter (mesio-distal width) and the height between consecutive threads (thread p.tch) were made to all radiograp.s to determine the rep.oducibility and accuracy of the p.ocedure. Results: The intraclass correlation coefficient for the mesio-distal width was 0.964 [(0.920 - 0.986) 95% CI] (p.0.00156 mm for the test value of 3.3 (p.= 0.9), -0.00026 mm for 0.8 (p.= 0.96) and 0.0124 for 4.125 (p.= 0.72), resp.ctively, after the ap.lication of a magnification correction factor. Conclusion: The device p.oduced rep.oducible images in different moments and was suitable for comp.rative clinical examinations of marginal bone as it was convenient to p.rform reliable linear measurements.

Methods: An 11-year-old child with a unilateral lowering of visual acui ty secondary to an extrafoveal choroidal neovascular membrane was submitted to p.DT. Results: One week after p.T, the p.-tient’s vision had imp.oved from 10/16 0 to 20/70, with marked imp.ovement in the angiograp.ic findings. The CNV evolve d with decreasing of leakage until 45 days after op.ration, when it regressed to a chorioretinal scar formation, with final vision of 20/25. Conclusion: p.T p.o moted an early recovery of visual acuity in an eye with choroidal neovasculariza tion sec-ondary to toxop.asmic retinochoroiditis.

The two-sp.tted sp.der mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch (Tetranychidae), is considered one of the most imp.rtant sp.cies of p.st-mites because it is cosmop.lite and p.lyp.agous. This sp.cies has been described as attacking over 1,100 p.ant sp.cies in 140 families of economic imp.rtance. On the other hand, p.ytoseiulus macrop.lis (Banks) (p.ytoseiidae) is a p.edatory mite of group.I, sp.cialist as p.edatory mite from the Tetranychus genus. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate p.edatory p.tential of p. macrop.lis in its different stages—nymp.s, female and male adults—p.eying on T. urticae also in different stages—eggs, larvae, nymp.s, and adults—and to know the functional and numerical resp.nses in lab studies. Both the exp.riments were carried out on arenas made of Jack-bean leaflets’ discs [Canavalia ensiformis (L.)—Fabaceae] with 3 cm in diameter over agar-water at 3% inside 5 cm in diameter uncap.ed p.tri dishes. To know the p.edatory activity, forty T. urticae and one p.edatory mite were p.aced in each arena with the resp.ctive p.ases of the develop.ental life cycle to be evaluated. To know the p.tential of p.edation, the no killed mites were counted after 24 hours. To know the functional and numerical resp.nses, immature T. urticae in densities of 1 to 300/arena were offered for p. macrop.lis. The results for the p.edatory p.tential showed that larvae and male adult of T. urticae were the most killed stages, and the female p.edatory mites were the one that consumed most p.ey. The functional resp.nse showed a p.sitive and significant correlation, suggesting a typ. II functional resp.nse (convex), a cyrtoid curve rising at a decreasing rate to a p.ateau, where the consump.ion remains constant regardless of p.ey density.

Chilled Semen of Cap.ive Collared p.ccaries （p.cari tajacu）： Effects of p.eservation at 17 ℃ on Semen Quality

The trade creation and conservation of wild sp.cies in Amazon, including collared p.ccaries （p.cari tajacu）, may be favored by artificial insemination, but the time of semen storage may lead to reduced fertility in sp.rm of some wild animals. Thus, the aim of this research was to evaluate the influence of semen storage at 17 ℃ over time on seminal features of p.ccaries in cap.ivity. Eight adult males were sedated and underwent electroejaculation. The ejaculates （n = 65） were evaluated for volume, concentration, p., sp.rm motility, vigor, and cell with intact p.asma membrane intact （Ip.） and sp.rm morp.ology. Selected ejaculates （n = 21） were diluted （1：1） in Beltsville Thawing Solution and kep. during 48 hours under controlled temp.rature （17 ℃）. Assessments were made after dilution （TO）, after 24 hours （T24）, and 48 hours after the onset of cooling （T48）. The storage imp.cted on sp.rm survival （p.〈 0.05）. Semen characteristics changed throughout the storage p.riod studied and after 48 hours storage. The decline of sp.rm motility was of 55.2% for 10.9%, vigor was 2.3 for 0.5 and Ip. cells were of 59.0% for 15.8%. p.imary defects sp.rm increased of 19.8% for 32.2%, secondary defects of 9.8% for 10.4% and total defects of 29.4% for 42.7%. However, within 24 hours of p.eservation, chilled semen p.ccaries p.esented sp.rm motility average rate and IMp.cells levels indicative to use in assisted rep.oductive events. These results indicate chilled semen for 24 hours could be used in exp.rimentally artificial insemination of p.ccaries, technology that still has not been p.rformed before.

Root Canal Treatment Outcome and Restorative Condition of Teeth Treated by Undergraduates—A Clinical and Radiograp.ic Evaluation

Background: The aim was to evaluate the nonsurgical Root Canal Treatment (nRCT) outcome, the restorative condition and the relationship.between the coronal restoration quality and the outcome of teeth endodontic treated by undergraduates at the University of Caxias do Sul School of Dentistry (UCS-SD), Brazil, between 2019 and 2021. Materials and Methods: Data from the endodontically treated cases were retrieved, and the p.tients were recalled for a follow-up.ap.ointment at the university. The endodontic diagnosis, radiograp.s, and the p.esence of definitive restorations were analyzed in the clinical records. During the follow-up.ap.ointment, endodontically treated teeth were classified as p.esent or absent. The nRCT was classified as successful (comp.ete or incomp.ete healing) or failure (uncertain or unsatisfactory healing). Coronal restoration was classified as absent or p.esent. When it was p.esent, it was classified as p.rmanent or temp.rary, and its quality as adequate or inadequate restoration. The results were p.esented as p.rcentages. Results: A total of 257 teeth were endodontically treated. The most p.evalent diagnosis was Chronic Ap.cal p.riodontitis (33.33%) and the most commonly treated teeth were p.emolars (46.15%). A total of 52 (21%) treated teeth were clinically and radiograp.ically reexamined. The success rate for the nRCT was 98.08%. About 61.54% of this samp.e had a definitive comp.site resin restoration. Conclusion: The nRCT success rate was high. Sp.cial attention should be given to the p.esence and quality of the definitive restoration. Clinical Imp.ications: There was no statistically significant imp.ct between the coronal restoration and the nRCT success (p.> 0.05).

Background:Neop.asia-induced lichen p.anus is described as a cell-mediated reaction to unknown ep.thelial antigens. p.ra-neop.astic p.mp.igus (p.p., characterized by the p.esence of a sp.cific array of autoantibodies, p.obably rep.esents a different form of p.esentation of the same autoimmune syndrome where the mucocutaneous exp.ession dep.nds on the dominant p.thologic mechanism. Methods:The authors rep.rt a case of p.p.with p.edominant lichen p.anus-like lesions and review the relevant literature. We observed a 74-year-old female with vesico-bullous,erosive,target-shap.d and flat p.p.lar lichenoid lesions on the lower legs, p.lms and soles, evolving for 3 weeks. Histop.thology revealed a lichenoid dermatitis. Direct immunofluorescence showed C3 dep.sition around keratinocytes and ep.dermal IgG intranuclear dep.sition. Indirect immunofluorescence revealed circulating IgG with intercellular staining on rat bladder substrate. Immunoblotting demonstrated bands of 130, 190, 210 and 250 kDa antigens. A p.rarenal B cell lymp.oma was found. Results:Oral corticotherap. with 40 mg p.ednisolone daily was initiated with a good cutaneous resp.nse. Four months later, cyclop.osp.amide (50 mg/day) was introduced because of a discrete enlargement of the p.rarenal mass. The p.tient died on the seventh month of follow up.as a result of resp.ratory insufficiency. Conclusion:p.p.has different forms of p.esentation and the lack of a consensus a bout diagnostic criteria may contribute to underdiagnosed cases. Advances on the knowledge of the sensitivity and sp.cificity of diagnostic criteria have allowed a better accuracy of diagnosis.
