The monitoring of urban slopes employing in-situ equipment seeks to avoid the loss of human lives midst emergency events like landslides. Cemaden (brazilian National Centre for Monitoring and Early Warnings of Natural Disasters) has a pilot network of soil moisture and rain gauge stations located in urban slopes to understand, prevent, and mitigate landslides. Due to the large volume of data produced by this system there was a need for tools for data retrieval and visualization. This paper describes the Solam (Environmental Data Observation System) software which generates automated graphs that enable researchers to analyze and comprise data from soil moisture sensors and rain gauge stations. Those results allow to research moisture variations in six different sensor levels (from 0.5 m to 3 m deep) and precipitation indexes (hourly and accumulated rainfall) for the established period. This analysis will provide information to set critical environmental thresholds on base recorded landslides.

The objective of this work was to evaluate different superficial treatments of sisal fibres employing lignin,and their use as a reinforcement agent in cementitious *** treatments consisted of superficially impregnating sisal fibres(S)with organosolv lignin(LO),organosolv lignin and glutaraldehyde(LOG),Kraft lignin(LK)and Kraft lignin and glutaraldehyde(LKG).The fibre modifications were verified by fTIR-ATR and SEM analyzes,and the presence of lignin on the surface of the fibres was evidenced,confirming the effectiveness of the *** mechanical,thermal(by TGA)and water absorption properties of the fibres before and after the modifications were also *** treatment,the modified fibres presented an expressive reduction of the water absorption and did not show significant changes in the mechanical properties when compared with the natural unmodified sisal fibre(SNAT).It was verified an increase in the thermal stability of the treated fibres which can be attributed to the insertion of lignin on the *** evaluate the performance of the fibres in the cementitious composites,cement plates(CP)were produced with different treated fibres(CP-SLOG,CP-SLO,CP-SLKG,CP-SLK)and fibres without treatment(CP-SNAT).The composites were evaluated concerning to the water absorption,porosity and mechanical *** fractured regions were also investigated by *** composites prepared showed similar values of absorption and porosity *** the mechanical properties,the composites prepared with modified fibres showed a significant increase in the modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity compared with CP-SNAT,while toughness was similar to all *** the SEM images,it was observed that the modified fibres immersed in the cementitious plates showed no degradation,indicating that the impregnation of lignin acted as a protective agent of the ***,the treatments of the fibres with lignin led to a significant improvement in th

Pretherapy sperm cryopreservation in young men is currently included in good clinical practice guidelines for cancer patients. The aim of this paper is to outline the effects of different oncological treatments on semen quality in patients with testicular neoplasia or lymphoprol iferative disorders, based on an 8-year experience of the Cryopreservation Centre of a large public hospital. Two hundred and sixty-one patients with testicular neoplasia and 219 patients with lymphoproliferative disorders who underwent chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy and pretherapy semen cryopreservation were evaluated. Sperm and hormonal parameters （follicle-stimulating hormone （fSH）, luteinizing hormone （LH）, testosterone, inhibin b levels） were assessed prior to and 6, 12, 18, 24 and 36 months after the end of cancer treatment. At the time of sperm collection, baseline fSH level and sperm concentration were impaired to a greater extent in patients with malignant testicular neoplasias than in patients with lymphoproliferative disorders. Toxic effects on spermatogenesis were still evident at 6 and 12 months after the end of cancer therapies, while an improvement of seminal parameters was observed after 18 months. In conclusion, an overall increase in sperm concentration was recorded about 18 months after the end of cancer treatments in the majority of patients, even if it was not possible to predict the evolution of each single case ＇a priori＇. for this reason, pretherapy semen cryopreservation should be considered in all young cancer patients.

The study of thermal comfort in the built environment is of great relevance since it stimulates the development of more sustainable buildings suited to the local climate and able to meet the human need for *** objective of this research was to develop,construct and test a passive heating system adaptable to existing buildings,reducing the need for major interventions and increasing thermal comfort in the indoor *** adopted methodological approach was a case study in a single-family residence located in the brazilian city of Petrópolis,a mountainous region with a humid subtropical climate and a rigorous *** proposed passive heating system is totally isolated,thus mitigating air infiltration and promoting increase of temperature in the internal environment through the absorption of solar energy and greenhouse *** kind of solution is especially interesting for residents of this region,since most of the city buildings are not adequately prepared to handle low ***,given local climatic conditions,residents need to spend a lot of money on the acquisition and operation of electric or gas heating *** results indicated that the developed system,in fact,increased the temperature of the studied room when compared to an adjacent room,which did not receive the *** findings of this paper,therefore,provide a valuable reference for experts and practitioners in the selection of heating systems to be used in cold regions,and proved that passive systems can provide thermal comfort at the same time that optimize the interaction of the building with the local ecosystem.

Currently, Living Wall Systems (LWSs) are assuming great importance in the built environment, due to environmental and aesthetic advantages, as well as the use of urban residual space and underutilized surfaces of buildings. However, the maintenance and the durability of the materials used have been a challenge for architects and professionals in the field. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the anti-corrosion performance of a steel framing profile, galvanized carbon steel (55% Al-Zn), a sustainable material with easy assembly, to apply LWS in the hot and humid tropical climate of Niterói (Rio de Janeiro, brazil). In order to create the conditions of the tests, “X” cut were made in Al-Zn coating, sanding, and application of epoxy and glass fiber-reinforced polyester. After the experiments that lasted four months, the 55% Al-Zn coating was analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The results of the tests were promising for the use of this galvanized steel for application as a support for green vertical facades. 55% Al-Zn coatings are recommended for marine atmospheres due to their good anti-corrosion performance.

Many progresses have been done in the management of gastrointestinal(GI) lymphomas during last decades, especially after the discovery of Helicobacter pylori-dependent lymphoma development. The stepwise implementation of new endoscopic techniques, by means of echoendoscopy or double-balloon enteroscopy, enabled us to more precisely describe the endoscopic features of GI lymphomas with substantial contribution in patient management and in tailoring the treatment strategy with organ preserving approaches. In this review, we describe the recent progresses in GI lymphoma management from disease diagnosis to follow-up with a specific focus on the endoscopic presentation according to the involved site and the lymphoma subtype. Additionally, new or emerging endoscopic technologies that have an impact on the management of gastrointestinal lymphomas are reported. We here discuss the two most common subtypes of GI lymphomas: the mucosaassociated lymphoid tissue and the diffuse large b cell lymphoma. A general outline on the state-of-the-art of the disease and on the role of endoscopy in both diagnosis and follow-up will be performed.

We here present an ongoing research project about an integrated real time mobility assistant, which has been developed for the call “Personal Integrated Mobility” of the EU framework program. The assistant is aimed to support personal mobility in a near future scenario, where green, shared or public transports are replacing the current private, carbon transportation system. The assistant handles itineraries, which are based on goals of time, energy/pollution and cost, and supports users both before and during the trip. The service will gather and interpret any relevant source of information on transport resources and their availability. Information includes user generated content and social data. Given the globalization of users and the hourly peaks of mobility, the assistant is a cloud service, which integrates existing technologies;however a global extension requires a federation of clouds and, above all, the interpretation and validation of social data. These can be considered major research challenges.

This work contributed to a detailed study on a better understanding of the Jominy test, adopted a proportion of study to create the Jominy test device, exhibited favorable conceptions for the development of a prototype of the device, covering the four aspects of the project, being they: test device, test body heating system, test automation and instrumentation using embedded electronics and financial analysis for the elaboration of this project in brazil. It was possible to observe in the results that the system is efficient, simple and functional, it was possible to obtain the first test carried out in the controlled environment the temperature data in degrees centigrade, the recorded data were automatically launched in Microsoft Excel by the PLX DAQ software, making the acquisition of the data. In the matter of preparing the test device, the drawings are presented in the 3D modeling software, cost tables of the materials used for assembly in brazil. In terms of the heating system, a heating system was adopted that uses electromagnetic induction, the cost of materials related to the heating system design was also presented. Another relevant factor that contributes to the research and improvement of the prototype is the municipality, located in the Paraiba Valley region, located in the state of São Paulo, consisting of a fertile and relevant scenario of regional, national, international and multinational statistics, thus concluding the effectiveness for the mainly metallurgical industries. The results obtained were satisfactory and consistent, when they were created for the Jominy test device with the ability to submit small pieces for testing and mainly essential in the didactic point of view for a higher education institution of engineering and technology.
