FeedEfficiencyService: An architecture for the comparison of data from multiple studies related to dairy cattle feed efficiency indices

The increased demand for food worldwide,the reduced land availability for livestock pro-duction,the increasing cost of animal feed and the need for mitigating livestock-related greenhouse gas emissions have driven the search for animal feeding systems that proves more *** tackle this problem,we propose the use of computational support to help researchers compare data on feed efficiency,therefore improving economic and environ-mental *** a solution,we present an integrative architecture capable of combining heterogeneous data from multiple experiments related to dairy cattle feed efficiency *** proposed architecture,called FeedEfficiencyService,classifies animals according to feed efficiency indices and allows visualizations through ontologies and inference *** results obtained from a case study with researchers from the Brazilian Agri-cultural Research Corporation–Dairy Cattle(EMBRAPA)demonstrate that this architecture is a supporting tool in their daily work *** researchers highlighted the importance of the proposed architecture as it allows analyzing animal data,comparing experiments,having reliable data analyses,and standardizing and organizing data from *** novelty of our approach is the use of ontologies and inference engines to enable the discovery of new knowledge and new relationships between data from feed efficiency-related *** store such data,relationships,and analyses of results in an inte-grated *** solution ensures unified access to the processing history and data from diverse experiments,including those conducted at external research centers.

Tomato(Solanum lycopersicum)is one of the most economically important vegetables throughout the *** is one of the best studied cultivated dicotyledonous plants,often used as a model system for plant research into classical genetics,cytogenetics,molecular genetics,and molecular *** plants are affected by different pathogens such as viruses,viroids,fungi,oomycetes,bacteria,and nematodes,that reduce yield and affect product *** study of tomato as a plant-pathogen system helps to accelerate the discovery and understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying disease resistance and offers the opportunity of improving the yield and quality of their edible *** use of functional genomics has contributed to this purpose through both traditional and recently developed techniques,that allow the identification of plant key functional genes in susceptible and resistant responses,and the understanding of the molecular basis of compatible interactions during pathogen ***-generation sequencing technologies(NGS),which produce massive quantities of sequencing data,have greatly accelerated research in biological sciences and offer great opportunities to better understand the molecular networks of plant–pathogen *** this review,we summarize important research that used high-throughput RNA-seq technology to obtain transcriptome changes in tomato plants in response to a wide range of pathogens such as viruses,fungi,bacteria,oomycetes,and *** findings will facilitate genetic engineering efforts to incorporate new sources of resistance in tomato for protection against pathogens and are of major importance for sustainable plant-disease management,namely the ones relying on the plant’s innate immune mechanisms in view of plant breeding.

This work presents the subtraction procedure and the Regge cut in the logarithmic Regge pole *** subtraction mechanism leads to the same asymptotic behavior as previously obtained in the non-subtraction *** Regge cut,in contrast,introduces a clear role to the non-leading contributions for the asymptotic behavior of the total *** these results,some simple parameterization is introduced to fit the experimental data for the proton-proton and antiproton-proton total cross-section above some minimum value up to the *** fit parameters obtained are used to present predictions for the ρ(s)-parameter as well as to the elastic slope B(s)at high energies.

Product yields of stabilized Criegee intermediates in the ozonolysis reactions of cis-2-butene, 2-methyl-2-butene, cyclopentene, and cyclohexene

Cavity ring-down spectroscopy(CRDS)was utilized in combination with chemical titration with sulfur dioxide(SO_2)to quantify stabilized Criegee intermediates(s CIs)produced at low pressures(4–20 Torr)in ozonolysis reactions of cis-2-butene,2-methyl-2-butene,cyclopentene,and *** yield of stabilized s CI,acetaldehyde oxide(CH_3CHOO),from cis-2-butene ozonolysis decreased with decreasing pressure and reached to 0.05±0.04 at the zero-pressure *** nonsymmetric alkene 2-methyl-2-butene produced two stabilized s CIs,CH_3CHOO and acetone oxide((CH_3)_2COO),and their total yield decreased with decreasing pressure and reached 0.01±0.03 at the zero-pressure *** cyclopentene and cyclohexene,the s CI yields were essentially constant near zero,as expected of endocyclic *** nascent yields of s CI of various alkenes are compared.

Surgical treatment of familial adenomatous polyposis: Dilemmas and current recommendations

Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an autosomal dominant inherited syndrome characterized by multiple adenomatous polyps (predisposing to colorectal cancer development) and numerous extracolonic manifestations. The underlying genetic burden generates variable clinical features that may influence operative management. As a precancerous hereditary condition, the rationale of performing a prophylactic surgery is a mainstay of FAP management. The purpose of the present paper is to bring up many controversial aspects regarding surgical treatment for FAP, and to discuss the results and perspectives of the operative choices and approaches. Preferably, the decision-making process should not be limited to the conventional confrontation of pros and cons of ileorectal anastomosis or restorative proctocolectomy. A wide discussion with the patient may evaluate issues such as age, genotype, family history, sphincter function, the presence or risk of desmoid disease, potential complications of each procedure and chances of postoperative surveillance. Therefore, the definition of the best moment and the choice of appropriate procedure constitute an individual decision that must take into consideration patient’s preferences and full information about the complex nature of the disease. All these facts reinforce the idea that FAP patients should be managed by experienced surgeons working in specialized centers to achieve the best immediate and long-term results.

Optical theorem,crossing property,and derivative dispersion relations:implications on the asymptotic behavior of σ_(tot)(s) and ρ(s)

In this paper,we present some results on the behavior of the total cross section and p-parameter at asymptotic energies in proton-proton(pp) and antiproton-proton(pp) ***,we consider three of the main theoretical results in high energy physics:the crossing property,derivative dispersion relation,and optical *** use of such machinery facilitates the derivation of analytic formulas for a wide set of the measured global scattering parameters and some important relations between *** suggested parameterizations approximate the energy dependence for the total cross section and ρ-parameter for pp and pp with a statistically acceptable quality in the multi-TeV ***,the qualitative description is obtained for important interrelations,namely difference,sum,and ratio of the antiparticle-particle and particle-particle total cross *** the reduced number of experimental data for the total cross section and p-parameter at the TeV-scale,which complicates any prediction for the beginning of the asymptotic domain,the fitting procedures indicates that asymptotia occur in the energy range 25.5-130 ***,in the asymptotic regime,we obtain α_(P)=1.A detailed quantitative study of the energy behavior of the measured scattering parameters and their combinations in the ultra-high energy domain indicates that the scenario with the generalized formulation of the Pomeranchuk theorem is more favorable with respect to the original formulation of this theorem.

An overview on nucleation theories and models

Several different models for coercivity are discussed. There are two main situations: i) nanocrystalline magnets, with grain size bellow the single domain particle size, and ii) magnets with grain size above single domain particle size. The described theories and models are general, and can be applied in either NdFeB magnets, SmFeCoCuZr or strontium ferrite magnets. The spring effect observed in isotropic nanocrystalline magnets can be explained with the Stoner-Wohlfarth model. Modifications of the StonerWohlfarth model are necessary to take into account the effect of interaction between grains. When the grain size is above the single domain size, energy considerations show that nucleation should occur at the surface of grains. Nucleation is interpreted as a two-step process, where domain wall displacement occurs for grain size above single domain size, after a nucleus is first formed. The effect of grain size on the coercive field is discussed.

Colorectal cancer in young adults: A difficult challenge

Sporadic colorectal cancer(CRC) is traditionally diagnosed after the sixth decade of life,and current recommendations for surveillance include only patients older than 50 years of age. However,an increasing incidence of CRC in patients less than 40 years of age has been reported. This occurrence has been attributed to different molecular features and low suspicion of CRC in young symptomatic individuals. When confronting young-onset CRC with older patients,issues such as biological aggressiveness,stage at diagnosis and clinical outcomes seem to differ in many aspects. In the future,the identification of the molecular profile underlying the early development of sporadic CRC will help to plan tailored screening recommendations and improve management. Besides that,differential diagnosis with CRC linked with hereditary syndromes is necessary to provide adequate patient treatment and family screening. Until we find the answers to some of these doubts,doctors should raise suspicion when evaluating an young adult and be aware of this risk and consequences of a late diagnosis.
