Antihyperglycemic and hepatoprotective properties of miracle fruit(Synsepalum dulcificum) compared to aspartame in alloxan-induced diabetic mice

Objective: This study was undertaken to investigate the antihyperglycemic potential of miracle fruit(MF)as well as its hepatic safety as compared to aspartame in alloxan-induced diabetic ***: MF extracts were prepared and screened for their phytochemical composition using highperformance liquid chromatography(HPLC). Total phenolic, flavonoid and tannin contents and antioxidant potential were also determined. Additionally, MF was evaluated for its sensory attributes. For in vivo work, MF ethanol extract at high(MFH: 500 mg/kg body weight [BW]) and low(MFL: 250 mg/kg BW) doses as well as aspartame were injected intraperitoneally into alloxan-induced diabetic *** glucose levels were determined following acute and subchronic treatment. At the end of the study,animals were sacrificed, serum was collected for biochemical analysis and liver tissues were obtained for histopathological ***: MF ethanol extract contained more flavonoids and tannins, and had higher 1,1-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical-scavenging activity(79.61%) compared to MF aqueous extract(P king undesirable sourness. Subchronic administration of MFH proved amelioration of hyperglycemia in mice as compared to aspartame. Moreover, aspartame treatment significantly elevated(P < 0.05) the level of alanine aminotransferase and had destructive effects on the liver histopathology;however, hepatic architecture was restored by low and high doses of ***: MF is an effective antihyperglycemic with hepatoprotective properties that can be used as a healthier alternative sweetening agent in place of aspartame for sour beverages.

The introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) has revolutionized the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) and has dramatically improved the outcomes of patients. The use of monotherapy or combinations of ICIs targeting PD-1/PD-L1 and CTLA-4, as well as the addition of ICIs with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, has significantly enhanced the overall survival of mRCC patients. Despite these promising results, there remains a subset of patients who either do not respond to treatment (primary resistance) or develop resistance to therapy over time (acquired resistance). Understanding the mechanisms underlying the development of resistance to ICI treatment is crucial in the management of mRCC, as they can be used to identify new targets for innovative therapeutic strategies. Currently, there is an unmet need to develop new predictive and prognostic biomarkers that can aid in the development of personalized treatment options for mRCC patients. In this review, we summarize several mechanisms of ICI resistance in RCC, including alterations in tumor microenvironment, upregulation of alternative immune checkpoint pathways, and genetic and epigenetic changes. Additionally, we highlight potential strategies that can be used to overcome resistance, such as combination therapy, targeted therapy, and immune modulation.

Complex metal oxide has emerged as an important class of electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction(OER)because of its flexibility in the crystal phase and relative ease in the control of defect *** different crystalline phases and solid structures may be produced from the same reactant precursors,their phase transitions and OER performances are not well *** this work,we present the preparation of different phases of SrCo_(0.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3-δ)(nominal ratio)solids using a sol-gel method and the structure-catalytic property relationship of both crystalline and amorphous structures formed at different *** observed as synthetic temperature increased,phase and composition transitions occurred from the amorphous phase to strontium carbonate and cobalt oxide,to oxygen-deficient perovskite,and finally to *** OER activity depended highly on crystal *** oxygen-deficient perovskite prepared at 750℃ exhibited the highest catalytic activity,while the perovskite showed the lowest activity.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis reveals the change of oxidation state occurred during the phase *** work provides a useful guideline for the design of OER electrocatalysts through controlling the crystal structures and defects in complex metal oxides,such as perovskite.

Introduction: High blood pressure is defined as blood pressure greater than or equal to 140 mm Hg for systolic and or 90 mm Hg for diastolic. It constitutes a major public health problem, the leading chronic disease in the world. The objective was to determine the prevalence, treatment rate and control of hypertension. Methods: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study which took place over a period of 6 months in a hospital environment and in the general population. Results: Of the 1000 participants, 637 had hypertension, giving a prevalence of 63.70% with a female predominance. Thirty-three percent (33%) were unaware of their high blood pressure. The age group 60 and more was the most represented (44%). A proportion of 33 and 23.20 were overweight and obese participants, respectively. Male subjects were more overweight than female, unlike obesity which was more common among female subjects. Sixty-two percent (62%) of hypertensives were treated, of whom 44% were non-compliant. The excessively high cost and consumption of medications as needed were the main factors in therapeutic non-compliance. Twenty-two percent (22%) of all hypertensive patients and 35% of treated hypertensive patients were controlled. Women were more treated but less observant and less controlled than men. Therapeutic coverage and combination therapy rates were lower in rural areas. Hypertensives who had a high level of education were better treated and controlled than those who had no level. Conclusion: High blood pressure remains a real public health problem in Mali. It is more common in people aged 60 and over and in females. One in three hypertensives were unaware of their hypertension. The majority received antihypertensive treatments, but only a minority of them had their hypertension controlled.

Natural-orifice specimen-extraction surgery(NOSES)for colorectal disease is not a new surgical procedure,although its lack of penetration into common colorectal surgical practice may make it a relatively new *** et al.[1]were among the first to report the extraction of a colectomy specimen through the vagina in 1991 and,shortly thereafter,Franklin et al.[2]published the first report of partial colectomy with naturalorifice specimen extraction(NOSE)via the *** then,there have been several publications on the extraction of both malignant and benign colonic diseases from the caecum to the distal rectum through natural-orifice extraction *** procedures such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy,which was introduced in 1985 and rapidly diffused into the surgical community over a 2-to 3-year period,the dispersion of NOSES has not been equivocal[3].As there are several reasons why some new surgical innovations may be taken up more quickly than others,the adoption curves of new procedures can take many ***,the tipping point that describes the onset of the peak rate of diffusion of the new technology usually occurs after the first 10%–20%of users have adopted it[3].From a global perspective,the adoptions curve for NOSES has not obtained a peak rate of diffusion and appears to have arrested in the developmental and explorative phase of innovation[3].

With the rapidly escalating use of smart devices and fraudulent transaction of users＇ data from their devices, efficient and reliable techniques for authentication of the smart devices have become an obligatory issue. This paper reviews the security risks for mobile devices and studies several authentication techniques available for smart devices. The results from field studies enable a comparative evaluation of user-preferred authentication mechanisms and their opinions about reliability, biometric authentication and visual authentication techniques.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of kanamycin （kan） and ampicillin （amp） resistant bacteria in public drinking water. Methods Bacteria containing kan and amp resistant genes were amplified by PCR and further characterized by colony hybridization and transformation studies. The genus of kan and amp resistant bacteria was determined with standard methods. Results Among the 625 drinking water samples, 400 contained kan and amp resistant bacteria and the percentage was 42.5% and 57.5%, respectively, which was further confirmed by the amplification of a 810 bp kan resistant gene and a 850 bp amp resistant gene. Of the 170 kan resistant bacteria, 90 were Gram negative and 80 were Gram positive. Of the 230 amp resistant bacteria, 160 were Gram negative while 70 were Gram positive. Salmonella, Shigella, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and *** were detected as 13%, 11%, 17%, 30%, and 29%, respectively. Bacterial strain DH5α transformed with plasmids isolated from kan and amp resistant bacteria confirmed that the antibiotic resistant genes were mediated by plasmids. Conclusion Drinking water is contaminated with kan and amp resistant bacteria due to poor sanitary conditions.
