Historical Satellite Data Analysis to Enhance Climate Chang. Adaption and Hydrolog.c Models in Eg.pt

Eg.pt suffers from the impacts of climate chang.. Adaption plans should solve the shortag. in water resources and increase the use of renewable energ.. Detailed data on rainfall as non conventional water and detailed data on potential renewable energ. are important. The added value of this research is to investig.te the suitability of satellite data locally in North Sinai in Eg.pt. The Tropical Rainfall Measuring.Mission (TRMM) satellites and available data from g.ound rain g.ug.s are studied at North Sinai of Eg.pt. Local multiplication factors and correlation equations on a monthly basis were developed based on short term historical data. g.neral equation based on short term data was developed to enhance TRMM data for the rainy season to minimize spatial and temporal errors. This equation would be very useful, especially in the ung.ug.d areas in North Sinai to adjust TRMM rainfall data. TRMM data are spatially distributed, so it enhances the hydrolog. models for runoff estimation. This runoff could be used as non conventional water resource. The runoff was estimated in the RasSudr area in the 2010 storm to be 3.6 (m3/s). The hydropower of this runoff was estimated and rang.d from 15,135 to 57,352 (kWh). The solar energ. is studied from (NASA) satellite data. The monthly averag.d solar energ. was estimated to g.t possible g.nerated power from the solar panel at locations of rainfall g.ound stations. The g.nerated solar energ. would supply self-sufficient energ. for g.ound stations measuring.instruments rather than batteries. The results show that a small solar panel project of 200 (m2) could safe electric network power by g.nerating.about 20,385 (kWh/year). The results of this study could help in enhancing.adapting.plans for climate chang. and runoff estimation model that needs g.id data, especially in the area lacking.g.ound data.

Assessing.intersectional g.nder analysis in Nepal’s health manag.ment information system: a case study on tuberculosis for inclusive health systems

Backg.ound Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health problem in Nepal, hig. in setting. marked by prevalent g.nder and social inequities. Various social stratifiers intersect, either privileg.ng.or oppressing.individuals based on their characteristics and contexts, thereby increasing.risks, vulnerabilities and marg.nilisation associated with TB. This study aimed to assess the inclusiveness of g.nder and other social stratifiers in key health related national policies and the Health Manag.ment Information System (HMIS) of National Tuberculosis Prog.amme (NTP) by conducting.an intersectional analysis of TB cases recorded via *** A desk review of key policies and the NTP’s HMIS was conducted. Retrospective intersectional analysis utilized two secondary data sources: annual NTP report (2017–2021) and records of 628 TB cases via HMIS 6.5 from two TB centres (2017/18–2018/19). Chi-square test and multi-variate analysis was used to assess the association between social stratifers and types of TB, reg.stration categ.ry and treatment *** g.nder, social inclusion and concept of intersectionality are incorporated into various health policies and strateg.es but lack effective implementation. NTP has initiated the collection of ag., sex, ethnicity and location data since 2014/15 throug. the HMIS. However, only ag. and sex disag.reg.ted data are routinely reported, leaving.recorded social stratifiers of TB patients static without analysis and dissemination. Furthermore, finding. from the intersectional analysis using.TB secondary data, showed that male more than 25 years exhibited hig.er odds [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 4.95, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.60–19.06,P = 0.01)] of successful outcome compared to male TB patients less than 25 years. Purification of Produced Water from a Sour Oilfield in South Kuwait. 1. Oil-Water Separation and Industrial Salt Production

Produced water from an oil extraction site in South Kuwait was sampled after primary oil – water separation had been carried out. The produced water was filtered throug. a mixture of activated charcoal and esterified cellulosic material g.ined from spent coffee g.ounds as a tertiary adsorption treatment. The earth-alkaline metal ions and heavy metals were separated from the de-oiled produced water by addition of either sodium or potassium hydroxide in the presence of carbon dioxide or by direct addition of solid sodium carbonate. The resulting.filtrate g.ve salt of industrial purity upon selective crystallization on evaporation.

Renewable Energ. Development in OAPEC Countries: History, Current Status, and Outlook

The renewable energ. industry has g.own its contribution to the g.obal energ. mix, particularly in terms of electricity g.neration. This study investig.tes the implications of an increasing.renewable energ. share on OAPEC countries and proposes a comprehensible policy strateg. for the reg.on. Four main topics are discussed: scientific and eng.neering.principles of renewable energ. utilization, current strateg.es for electricity g.neration in each OAPEC member country, economic and environmental implications of the energ. transition under two future scenarios, as well as political interactions between oil-consuming.and oil-producing.countries. Based on this study, realistic and cost-effective strateg.es are proposed for OAPEC countries to better leverag. their sig.ificant renewable energ. resources while stabilizing.fossil fuel supplies and streng.hening.their position in the g.obal energ. market. To mitig.te the neg.tive impacts of the energ. transition, OAPEC countries are encourag.d to take the following.steps: 1) Developing.renewable energ. in conjunction with fossil fuel resources to reduce local demand for fossil fuel and increase the supply for exportation;2) Reviewing.economic policies, environmental reg.lations, and carbon taxes imposed by oil-consuming.countries;3) Increasing.investment in renewable energ. infrastructure;4) Cooperating.to achieve a balance between economic development and environmental protection.

Carbon Capture Technolog.es in OAPEC Member Countries and the Circular Carbon Economy: A Roadmap to Zero Emissions by 2050

Several Org.nization of Arab Petroleum Exporting.Countries (OAPEC) member states (OMSs) have updated their nationally determined contributions (NDCs) with the aim of achieving.zero carbon emissions by 2050. Carbon neutrality requires shifting.from a linear carbon economy (LCE) to a circular carbon economy (CCE). Carbon capture and storag. (CCS) technolog.es, including.reduction, recycle, reuse, removal, and storag. technolog.es, represent an important strateg. for achieving.such a shift. Herein, we investig.te the effects of CCS technolog. adoption in six OMSs—namely the King.om of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Alg.ria, and Iraq—by examining.their Circular Carbon Economy Index (CCEI) scores, which reflect compliance with CCE-transition policies. Total CCEI, current performance CCEI dimension, and future enabler CCEI dimensions scores were compared among.the aforementioned six OMSs and relative to Norway, which was used as a g.obal-hig. CCEI reference standard. Specifically, CCEI g.neral scope and CCEI oil scope dimension scores were compared. The KSA, Qatar, the UAE, and Kuwait had hig.er CCEI scores than Alg.ria and Iraq, reflecting.their g.eater adoption of CCE-transition policies and g.eater emission-reducing.modernization investments. The current performance CCEI scores of Alg.ria and Iraq appear to be buttressed to some extent by their g.eater natural carbon sink resources. Based on the finding., we recommend specific actions for OMSs to enhance their CCE transitions and mitig.te the neg.tive impacts associated with the associated investments, including. taking.rapid practical steps to eliminate carbon oil industry emissions;detailed CCS planning.by national oil companies;international cooperation and coordination;and increased investment in domestic CCS utilization infrastructure.
