Diminazene aceturate modified nanocomposite for improved efficacy in acute trypanosome infection

Objective: To investigate the improved antitrypanocidal activity and toxicity of diminazene aceturate modified Nano drug in experimental rats. Methods: Aqueous leaf extract of Hyptis suaveolens was used to reduce gold tetrachloride to its nanoparticle size and this was characterized and formulates with naturally synthesized polyhydroxybutyrateas a Nano carrier. A total of thirty (30) albino rats were group into 6 (A-F) of 5 rats each & infected intraperitoneally with 0.2 mL of the inoculum containing about 1×103 Trypanosoma brucei brucei parasites per 0.2 mL of blood. Groups A and B were treated with 3 and 6 minutes released orange PHB, Groups C and D were treated with 15 and 30 minutes released mango PHB formulated tablet while Groups E and F were negative (untreated) and standard drug (Dininazene aceturare) respectively. Results: The free drug and modified orange synthesized polyhydroxy butyrate shows antitrypanocidal activities by reducing the replicating rate of the parasite as compared to infect untreated. While the modified- mango synthesized shows increasing order of replication. There were significant increases in all the haematological parameter evaluated in the infected treated groups compared to infect untreated. But no significant difference (P<0.05) observed in the Catalase activity in the serum and liver of all the groups whereas, the modified orange synthesized shows significant decrease in other enzymes activities evaluated when compared with the free drug, mango synthesized and the infected untreated groups. Conclusion: Orange synthesized modified diminazene aceturate show efficacy as free drug with limited toxicity that can enhance the therapeutic.

Numerical study of homogeneous–heterogeneous reactions on stagnation point flow of ferrofluid with non-linear slip condition

This study deals with the stagnation point flow of ferrofluid over a flat plate with non-linear slip boundary condition in the presence of homogeneous-heterogeneous *** kinds of ferroparticles,namely,magnetite(Fe_3O_4),cobalt ferrite(CoFe_2O_4) and manganese zinc ferrite(Mn-ZnFe_2O_4) are taken into account with water and kerosene as conventional base *** developed model of homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions in boundary layer flow with equal and unequal diffusivities for reactant and autocatalysis is *** governing partial differential equations are converted into system of non-linear ordinary differential equations by mean of similarity *** ordinary differential equations are integrated numerically using shooting *** effects of pertinent parameters on velocity and concentration profiles are presented graphically and *** found that in the presence of Fe_3O_4-kerosene and CoFe_2O_4-kerosene,velocity profiles increase for large values of α and β whereas there is a decrement in concentration profiles with increasing values of if and K_***,the comparison between non-magnetic(A1_2O_3) and magnetic Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles is given in tabular form.

Traumatic brain injury(TBI)is a major cause of mortality and morbidity in the pediatric *** advances in medical care,the mortality rate of pediatric TBI has ***,more children and adolescents are living with TBI-related cognitive and emotional impairments,which negatively affects the quality of their *** hippocampal neurogenesis plays an important role in cognition and mood *** in adult hippocampal neurogenesis are associated with a variety of neurological and neurodegenerative diseases,including *** endogenous hippocampal neurogenesis after TBI merits significant ***,TBI affects the function of neural stem/progenitor cells in the dentate gyrus of hippocampus,which results in aberrant migration and impaired dendrite development of adult-born ***,a better understanding of adult hippocampal neurogenesis after TBI can facilitate a more successful neuro-restoration of damage in immature *** injuries,such as neuroinflammation and oxidative stress,exert a significant impact on hippocampal ***,a variety of therapeutic approaches have been proposed for ameliorating secondary TBI *** this review,we discuss the uniqueness of pediatric TBI,adult hippocampal neurogenesis after pediatric TBI,and current efforts that promote neuroprotection to the developing brains,which can be leveraged to facilitate neuroregeneration.

Information Streams in Health Facilities: The Case of Uganda

With the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, the lack of digitally-recorded and connected health data poses a challenge for analysing the situation. Virus outbreaks, such as the current pandemic, allow for the optimisation and reuse of data, which can be beneficial in managing future outbreaks. However, there is a general lack of knowledge about the actual flow of information in health facilities, which is also the case in Uganda. In Uganda, where this case study was conducted, there is no comprehensive knowledge about what type of data is collected or how it is collected along the journey of a patient through a health facility. This study investigates information flows of clinical patient data in health facilities in Uganda. The study found that almost all health facilities in Uganda store patient information in paper files on shelves. Hospitals in Uganda are provided with paper tools, such as reporting forms, registers and manuals, in which district data is collected as aggregate data and submitted in the form of digital reports to the Ministry of Health Resource Center. These reporting forms are not digitised and, thus, not machine-actionable. Hence, it is not easy for health facilities, researchers, and others to find and access patient and research data. It is also not easy to reuse and connect this data with other digital health data worldwide, leading to the incorrect conclusion that there is less health data in Uganda. The a FAIR architecture has the potential to solve such problems and facilitate the transition from paper to digital records in the Uganda health system.

Bubble hydrodynamic influence on oxygen transfer rate at presence of cationic and anionic surfactants in electroflotation process

In this work, the effects of the presence of surfactants in the liquid phase and the hydrodynamic regime of the bubble flow on the oxygen transfer rate were investigated in an electroflotation process in batch mode. The volumetric mass transfer coefficient KLα and the oxygenation capacity were evaluated to improve the performances of the electroflotation process in terms of oxygenation. In order to evaluate the liquid-side mass transfer coefficient KLα the volumetric mass transfer coefficient KLα was dissociated into KL and the specific interracial area （a） since the last one was obtained from the gas hold-up and the bubble diameter. The effect of Reynolds number which define the hydrodynamic of the bubble flow has been also studied. Models of KLa and KL have been established to show the effects of the hydrodynamic parameters and liquid phase characteristics on the oxygen transfer rate.

The automatic detection and analysis of sunspots play a crucial role in understanding solar dynamics and predicting space weather *** paper proposes a novel method for sunspot group detection and classification called the dual stream Convolutional Neural Network with Attention Mechanism(DSCNN-AM).The network consists of two parallel streams each processing different input data allowing for joint processing of spatial and temporal information while classifying *** takes in the white light images as well as the corresponding magnetic images that reveal both the optical and magnetic features of *** extracted features are then fused and processed by fully connected layers to perform detection and *** attention mechanism is further integrated to address the“edge dimming”problem which improves the model’s ability to handle sunspots near the edge of the solar *** network is trained and tested on the SOLAR-STORM1 data *** results demonstrate that the DSCNN-AM achieves superior performance compared to existing methods,with a total accuracy exceeding 90%.

Model-based adaptive controller for personalized ventilation and thermal comfort in naturally ventilated spaces

This work develops a standalone autonomously controlled personalized ventilation(PV)unit in a naturally ventilated(NV)office space to maintain acceptable thermal comfort{TQ under steady and transient indoor conditions and activity *** NV-PV proportional integral derivative(PID)controller adjusts the PV supply temperature(7spv)at the occupant set flow rate(Qspv)based on predicted TC using a regression *** target TC level that the controller attains at all times is between 0(neutral)and 1(slightly comfortable).Process transfer functions were developed and then used to find the adaptive PID tuning coefficients using the Internal Model Control(IMC)*** controller was tested in a case study at indoor temperature range of 25 to 33℃ with relative humidity range of 55%and 80%.It was shown that the NV-PV controller adjusted Tspv to maintain acceptable TC under transients of indoor conditions and metabolic rates.

High prevalence of bla_(CTX-M) in Enterobactcriaceac isolates from the Kingdom of Bahrain

Objective:To determine the molecular epidemiology of extended-spectrumβ-lactamase （ESRL） by testing a cohort of clinical ESBL-producing bacterial isolates that were isolated in the Kingdom of ***:ESBL producing Enterabacleriaceae isolates（based on phenotypie tests） were collected from Microbiology Laboratory ot the Salmaniya Medical Complex,Bahrain between January-June *** susceptibility to a panel of antibiotics was performed and blaCTX-M genes were detected by multiplex ***:A total of 230 isolates（Escherichia coli.n=180:Klebsiella pneumoniae,n=50） were studied.98%were CTX-M *** Escherichia coli isolates.65（36.1%） harbored CTXM+TF.M combination and 68（37.8%） had CTX-M *** contrast,for Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates only 5（10.0%） harbored the CTX-M combination,and none had CTX-M *** blaCTX-M gene was found predominantly in urine isolates（n=145/230;63.0%）.Sensitivity to imipenem and nitrofurantoin was 100%and 60%.***-M carriage was associated with the resistance lo fluoroquinolones, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and ***:Our study documentes high prevalence of CTX-M ESBL type among Escherichia call and Klebsiella from the Kingdom of *** apparent dissemination of CTX-M producers could represent a substantial barrier in the treatment of community-acquired *** use of extended-Spectrum cephalosporins. quinolones,and aminoglycosides is compromised,leaving carbapenems as the therapeutic option for severe infections caused by ESBL producers.

Knowledge Management(KM)has become a dynamic concept for inquiry in *** management of knowledge from multiple sources requires a systematic approach that can facilitate capturing all important aspects related to a particular discipline,several KM frameworks have been designed to serve this *** research aims to propose a Collaborative Knowledge Management(CKM)Framework that bridges gaps and overcomes weaknesses in existing *** paper also validates the framework by evaluating its effectiveness for the agriculture sector of Pakistan.A software LCWU aKMS was developed which serves as a practical implementation of the concepts behind the proposed CKMF *** aKMS served as an effective system for rice leaf disease detection and *** aimed to enhance CKM through knowledge sharing,lessons learned,feedback on problem resolutions,help from co-workers,collaboration,and helping *** were collected from 300 rice crop farmers by questionnaires based on *** Olfman model was used to estimate the effectiveness of *** tests were performed including frequency measures of variables,Cronbach’s alpha reliability,and Pearson’s *** research provided a KMS depicting KM and collaborative *** disease detection module was evaluated using the precision and recall method and found to be 94.16%*** system could replace the work of extension agents,making it a cost and time-effective initiative for farmer betterment.

Antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of African medicinal plants

Objective:To study antioxidant and antimicrobial properties ofTerminalia catappa,Psidium guajava,Alstonia boonei,Morinda lucida (M. lucida) andSpondias mombin leave extracts using ethanol, petroleum-ether and aqueous media. Methods: The free radical 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydroazyl was used to measure scavenging activities of extracts, while phenolic and flavonoid content were estimated by spectrophotometry. Antibacterial screening of extracts was done by determining zone of inhibition using disc diffusion method. Plant extracts were tested against five strains of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. After sterilization, the discs were loaded with concentrations of broad spectrum ciprofloxacin, and prepared extract solutions of different concentrations were refrigerated for 24 h. Determination of minimum inhibitory concentration of extracts in the screening assay was according to micro-broth dilution, while determination of minimum bactericidal concentration was carried out by agar diffusion. Results: The highest radical scavenging effect was found in petroleum ether extracts of all the plants withM. lucida andPsidium guajava having the highest and lowest values respectively. Aqueous solvent recorded highest phenolic content in all extracts with the exception ofM. lucida. Flavonoid content was extracted better fromAlstonia boonei andM. lucida with ethanol, while aqueous solvent extracted more from the other plants. With exception of extracts from petroleum ether, all others exhibited varying levels of antibacterial activities againstE. coli,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Salmonella typhi,Vibrio cholera andStaphylococcus aureus. Conclusions:This study proved that all crude extracts showed strong antioxidant and antimicrobial potentials, which qualified them as nutraceuticals in fish feed production.
