align="justify"> Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 epidemic emerged in December 2019 and spread worldwide. Since workplaces are high-risk location for occupational exposure, understanding of the dynamics of COVID-19 clusters in occupational settings helps reduce the transmission of infectious disease in workplaces. This study presents an overview of the epidemiological characteristics of COVID-19 workplace clusters, preventive strategies adopted and outbreak responses undertaken in Muscat governorate. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive study on the epidemiological characteristics of cases and distribution of workplace-related clusters of COVID-19 in Muscat Governorate in Oman. Results: A total of 36,798 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Muscat from 24th February to 31st July 2020 in which 40.5% was belonging to clusters. Out of them 61% were Workplace-Dormitory clusters, predominantly expatriates. 78.6% of employees were symptomatic at time of examination. Fever and cough were the two most common symptoms reported in workplace related clusters. The number of affected employees ranged from 2 to 358 per cluster. Construction, retail, food, beverages, services, industrial manufacturing, oil & gas and transportation were identified as most at risk settings. Within the cases in workplace-related clusters, there was significant higher prevalence of diabetes, hypertension and obesity among females compared to males as also Omani nationals compared to expatriates and smoking among expatriate males compared to Omani males. In conclusion, understanding the epidemiological characteristics of the affected cases in organization setting will assist the policymakers to understand patterns of epidemiological spread and plan for robust interventions. <

With the growing need for renewable energy,wind farms are playing an important role in generating clean power from wind *** best wind turbine architecture in a wind farm has a major influence on the energy extraction *** paper describes a unique strategy for optimizing wind turbine locations on a wind farm that combines the capabilities of particle swarm optimization(PSO)and artificial neural networks(ANNs).The PSO method was used to explore the solution space and develop preliminary turbine layouts,and the ANN model was used to fine-tune the placements based on the predicted energy *** proposed hybrid technique seeks to increase energy output while considering site-specific wind patterns and topographical *** efficacy and superiority of the hybrid PSO-ANN methodology are proved through comprehensive simulations and comparisons with existing approaches,giving exciting prospects for developing more efficient and sustainable wind *** integration of ANNs and PSO in our methodology is of paramount importance because it leverages the complementary strengths of both ***,this novel methodology harnesses historical data through ANNs to identify optimal turbine positions that align with the wind speed and direction and enhance energy extraction efficiency.A notable increase in power generation is observed across various *** percentage increase in the power generation ranged from approximately 7.7%to 11.1%.Owing to its versatility and adaptability to site-specific conditions,the hybrid model offers promising prospects for advancing the field of wind farm layout optimization and contributing to a greener and more sustainable energy future.

Pyomoyoma is a rare complication of Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE). This case report reflects on this condition. A 45-year-old female, a known case of adenomyosis, presented with intermittent fever and foul vaginal discharge. These symptoms occurred shortly after the patient underwent UAE for menorrhagia secondary to adenomyosis. Computed tomography scan of the abdomen and pelvis aided in the diagnosis of Pyomyoma secondary to UAE. After a trial of broad spectrum antibiotics and Suction and Evacuation of the uterus had little to no help in the patient’s condition, she underwent Total Abdominal Hysterectomy in which a big, organized pus collection was removed from the uterus. Conclusion: Pyomyoma should be considered in the differentials for patients presenting with fever and vaginal discharge post UAE.

Background Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health problem in Nepal, high in settings marked by prevalent gender and social inequities. Various social stratifiers intersect, either privileging or oppressing individuals based on their characteristics and contexts, thereby increasing risks, vulnerabilities and marganilisation associated with TB. This study aimed to assess the inclusiveness of gender and other social stratifiers in key health related national policies and the Health Management Information System (HMIS) of National Tuberculosis Programme (NTP) by conducting an intersectional analysis of TB cases recorded via *** A desk review of key policies and the NTP’s HMIS was conducted. Retrospective intersectional analysis utilized two secondary data sources: annual NTP report (2017–2021) and records of 628 TB cases via HMIS 6.5 from two TB centres (2017/18–2018/19). Chi-square test and multi-variate analysis was used to assess the association between social stratifers and types of TB, registration category and treatment *** Gender, social inclusion and concept of intersectionality are incorporated into various health policies and strategies but lack effective implementation. NTP has initiated the collection of age, sex, ethnicity and location data since 2014/15 through the HMIS. However, only age and sex disaggregated data are routinely reported, leaving recorded social stratifiers of TB patients static without analysis and dissemination. Furthermore, findings from the intersectional analysis using TB secondary data, showed that male more than 25 years exhibited higher odds [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 4.95, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.60–19.06,P = 0.01)] of successful outcome compared to male TB patients less than 25 years. Similarly, sex was significantly associated with types of TB (P < 0.05) whereas both age (P < 0.05) and sex (P < 0.05) were significantly associated with patient registration category (old/new cases).Conclusio

Produced water from an oil extraction site in South Kuwait was sampled after primary oil – water separation had been carried out. The produced water was filtered through a mixture of activated charcoal and esterified cellulosic material gained from spent coffee grounds as a tertiary adsorption treatment. The earth-alkaline metal ions and heavy metals were separated from the de-oiled produced water by addition of either sodium or potassium hydroxide in the presence of carbon dioxide or by direct addition of solid sodium carbonate. The resulting filtrate gave salt of industrial purity upon selective crystallization on evaporation.

Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was declared as pandemic by WHO by March 11th. First case reported in Oman was on 24th February 2020 and later the country went through stages of epidemic progression. This study describes the sociodemographic and epidemiological characteristics of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Muscat governorate and related outcomes. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive, exploratory analysis of all lab confirmed COVID 19 cases that were reported from 1st February to 31st May 2020. Data for the study was primarily extracted from notifications system established for surveillance (Tarassud). Secondary data sources were, contact listings and hospital medical records. Results: 11,648 initial cases of confirmed COVID-19 infections were included. The mean age was 35 years, 84.7% (N = 9862) were males, 25.9% (N = 3017) were Omanis, and 74.1% (N = 8631) were expatriates of which Indian origin were the majority (37%). Fever and cough were the most common presentations (46.3% and 29.5% respectively). Diabetes and hypertension were the most common comorbidities (4.9% and 4.6% respectively). Hospital admission was required for 7% (N = 811) of the total reported cases, out of them 171 cases (21%) were admitted to ICU, where 107 (13.2%) were ventilated. The case fatality rate (CFR) was 0.9%. 158 clusters containing 2949 contacts were identified from case records and categorised into 3 groups based on their exposure settings. The incubation period measured was 8 days (IQR 4.0 - 15.0) for workplace, 8 days (IQR 4 - 17) for dormitory and 4 days (IQR 2.0 - 7.0) for family groups. The secondary attack rate (SAR) estimated was 41.6% (95% CI: 0.34 - 0.48), 52% (95% CI: 0.40 - 0.63) and 33% (95% CI: 0.27 - 0.38) for workplace, dormitory and family groups, respectively. Introduction: Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an extra-renal purification technique indicated for patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). although it has many advantages, it also has a number of complications, such as peritoneo-vaginal leakage of dialysate. Cases Reports: Three male patients, aged 70, 50 and 77 respectively, with ESKD were placed on PD. all three patients presented with inadequate drainage and the progressive appearance of bilateral hydrocele, which occurred one year (late leakage), two and four days (early leakage) respectively after the initiation of exchanges. The etiological investigation led to the conclusion of a peritoneo-vaginal leak associated with an inguinal hernia in only one case. The two cases of early leakage were treated by temporary suspension of PD, with a good response in one case and failure in the second, leading to hisdefinitive transfer to hemodialysis (HD);however, the hernia repair enabled immediate resumption of PD in the third patient. Discussion and Conclusion: Peritoneo-vaginal leakage is a rare mechanical complication in PD. The clinical examination plays an essential role in confirming the diagnosis and in the therapeutic decision. If the diagnosis is uncertain, or if there is a clinical need to show the anatomy of the leak, an imaging approach becomes desirable. This complication should not prevent the progression of PD in the management of patients with ESKD.

Diagnosis of childhood tuberculosis (TB) is difficult, especially in resource-limited countries where the number of reported cases of TB-HIV co-infection continues to rise. This co-infection poses a diagnostic and therapeutic problem for caregivers. We report a case of rifampicin-resistant HIV-TB pulmonary coinfection in a 19-month-old infant.
